Chapter 25: A maze of thoughts
MAYA'S POV
There was no car on sight. We looked at our right and left a thousand times but nothing revved its engine our way, not even a bicycle whistled its way down our path. I turned to Madeline to give her a signal.
To my greatest surprise, before I could get a response from her, she slipped her hands out of mine and hopped into the road like a kangaroo. My face turned into a glass of horror as worry wash down my feet.
How could she jump off without my knowledge? The crazy girl didn't care to look back, she took her time to hop peacefully to her destination. I was about to join her and grab her hands when the sound of a steaming engine lingered in my ear. It revved like it was at full speed ahead, throttling in our direction.
