Chapter 4Danny’s parents see him into Nico’s car the next day, his father’s big hand on his head and booming voice saying, “Be magnificent,” staying with him long after he’s buckled into his seat on the plane. The flight is only an hour and a half and he intends to do homework, but instead finds himself blinking awake as the plane lands in France. “I hope this doesn’t mean you were up all night,” Nico murmurs sternly, but he smiles when Danny looks guiltily at him. “It’s alright,” he says, unbuckling himself to reach up for their bags. “You’re young; you’ll bounce back.” There’s no one Danny knows competing at this event, so he does manage to get all his homework done in between public and private practice times.
