Oh Goddess

~Jazabell~ His lips are cool on my skin, he runs his tongue along the nap of my neck, he whispers things I can’t hear, but I feel him chuckle against me, his double dimpled smile makes the butterflies in my belly flutter. I can see the glint of his incisors in the reflection in the mirror. I throw my head back and just when he’s about to sink his teeth into my neck my alarm goes off. Ugh…… I’m an early riser. By default. The dreams don’t help me either, but at least I liked getting the week started early. I hated being late for classes, but I was thankful I only had one more semester of this and then I could choose what I wanted to do with my life, but I would cross that bridge when I got there. Although Monday’s sucked. Especially because our Ancient History teacher sent us a message on our history app to prepare ourselves for an old history lecture. Mrs. Larissa George was of the Vampire Faction and she was also one of my favorite teachers. Every lesson she taught she did it with a story that had history behind it, so I was curious what lesson she had planned today. I have already showered and changed no use in trying to sleep when you can’t. I was super early. I noticed the time on my watch. It was only seven am. I ran my eyes over my reflection one more time. I wore black -skinny jeans, my favorite pair of booties and a black halter top that ruffled around my curvy waist and stopped at my belly. This was as good as it was going to get for me anyway. I got up from my bed, picked up my bag and walked out of my room. I was walking down the hall when Vera’s familiar, Damon Salvatore, slipped between my legs and rubbed himself all over my legs. I bent down to give him a rub and scratch the top of his head and under his chin he loved that. Ironic, right? She’s a witch with a familiar that’s named after one of the most gorgeous and ruthless vampires in the history of human tv shows. But also really weird, right? Vera had a sick sense of humor. Witche's familiars didn’t mind us werewolves, they kept us company too. “Hey, Damon want to join me for breakfast?” I asked the black cat that purred at my feet. Damon meowed and followed me. I went down to the dining hall and got my breakfast. Scrambled eggs, hash browns, two crunchy slices of bacon because soggy bacon is disgusting and three sausages, two for me and one for Damon and a tall glass of o.j. I make my way to our table, I sit and give Damon his piece of sausage under the table and soon I’m joined by my friends. Of course, Stark and Vera make a spectacle by walking in together. Jace chuckles, but kisses me on the lips. I could feel the blush creep in. Anthony kissed Clair on her hand and Sophie was flashing looks at the dashing vampire named Lai. I suspected something. I think they are mates, but they are scared of it, which is strange. Jace and I caught her staring. “Go. Talk. To. Him.” I mouth because you know vampire hearing. Sophie shakes her head at me and goes back to playing with her breakfast. I wished she would stop being in her head. Lai obviously likes her too, but he’s also holding back. I sigh and hold the bridge of my nose. “Don’t worry they’ll get it together.” Jace says with a smile. I shook my head at him and looked at him. His eyes are glowing and his smile is so bright it makes me smile too. “Why do you always know what to say?” He winks. “Because, you know I’m right and they can’t keep avoiding the pull they have. Lai watches Sophie like a hawk, like he’s ready to take a bullet for her.” “Really?” I said taking a sip of my juice. Jace nods. “Yeah. They can’t take their eyes off each other.” I smile. I hope they get together soon. I hoped Jace would find his mate soon as well. I feel like I’m just hurting him. I hate it because it would be so much easier if I was his, but something in my mind was telling me I had someone waiting for me……… If only that were true…… Then my mom, our Luna, and director sent a message of her own. Mandatory Assembly all factions must attend after second period in the assembly hall! It’s funny because they could literally just mind link us, but they are educators first and Alpha and Luna second. They were trying to give us the whole normal school experience. First Period! We all walk into class and take our seats. Vera and Stark are in the front left row, while Jace and I are on the right. Sophie is next to Lai but behind Stark and V because everyone else was already paired up. I smile at Jace and he bites his lip with a smile of his own and then winks at me. I wrinkle my nose at him with a shake of my head. When Professor George walks in, She’s absolutely beautiful. Tall around five feet nine inches, black locks that fell on her back, sky blue eyes. She’s wearing-black skinny jeans with a white flowy shirt and five-inch booties and her long black knitted sweater. She walks in and settles down on her desk. She takes a sip of her black coffee laced with blood because I can smell it and sighs. “Okay, class today, I want to tell you a little story.” She says. Her voice is like a smooth melody, almost like she's singing. It's so soothing and beautiful. “Today I’m going to tell you the real story of the Moon Goddess.” Us werewolves visibly stiffen. We were told stories of our goddess as we grew up, but we never knew why she was a goddess in the first place. You could feel the tension in the room not from just the werewolves, but from our vampire, witch and fae friends. Professor George tries to settle us. Her gift was that of emotion. She could help us relax and basically do whatever the he.ll she wanted. She gives us her motherly smile. “Don’t worry, you need to know this.” If she said so. We all nod our heads and let her continue her lesson. Vera takes Starks' hand in her’s and Jace takes mine. It helps because my heart is beating fast against my chest. “Do you all know why the Moon Goddess became a goddess in the first place?” She asks. We know this, we all did, even if you weren’t of the werewolf faction. “Because the Moon Goddess sacrificed her life?” Stark says. Professor George co.cks her head to the side. “Yes, and no young Alpha. Do you know why she sacrificed herself?” We don’t know that part of the story. Nobody really knew how or why? But how would Professor George know if she is a vampire? Us wolves hung our heads. “You see your goddess walked the Earth as a human once upon a time and she was a lonely, but beautiful maiden. When she soon came across an equally young and beautiful boy, they instantly fell in love. They felt shivers run through their bodies every time they touched.” She smiles a knowing smile. Stark, Vera, Jace and I share looks. “They lived happily for a while until her love went out one day to hunt and he was gone for hours. Celeste was distraught that he hadn’t come back. Some hunters did, but hers hadn’t returned. They walked passed her with their heads cast down.” She looked sadly at us. My eyes burned with unshed tears. I saw Stark nod his head for her to continue, but I could feel my heart breaking for my goddess. At the precipice of shattering, my wolf let out an agonizing howl that rang through my very soul. “She cried, for a long time she cried and then she moved with purpose, she ran to the medical hut not knowing exactly what she needed and what she was going to find, but she grabbed supplies and stuffed them into her bag and set out to find her love.” Our sadness was palpable, so much so that I'm sure other students and faculty could smell it down the halls, but Jace’s grip on my hand gave me strength. I could feel my twin brothers' sadness and anguish. This was our goddess and he was an Alpha. I swallowed the lump in my throat as Professor George continued. “She climbed all the way up to the desert mountains and she couldn’t believe her eyes.” her voice softer now as the story unfolded. I could no longer hold in the tears, Jace pulled me to his side and I clung onto him for dear life while I let the silent tears fall from my eyes. Starks' fist was against his mouth trying to hold it together for us, but Professor George was determined to get us through this hard lesson. “The beautiful maiden found her love in the arms of another. In the arms of her own sister.” Professor George walked to the window. Her eyes held a sadness that we all saw through the reflection of the glass. “She couldn’t believe it. Her heart split in two at that very moment and she wished for death, she prayed for it and with a heavy heart she walked away from her love and started her way back down that mountain. She heard the sounds of pleasure from both her love and her sister.” Professor George sighs and continues. “Before Celeste even had the chance to make it down she had an accident. She didn’t see the crack in the mountain. So she fell and broke her femur and pubic bone.” I swallowed the gasp that wanted to leave my lips. I could feel the broken hearts of many through our pack bond. My brother's and Jace's were the fiercest. “Celeste wasn’t going to make it, not with a broken pubic bone with internal bleeding and there was no way she could move or climb out, but she heard the howls of an animal, a really special animal.” She says with a somber smile. “Celest had a guardian that she called Adawehi, or Angel in her native tongue.” We could feel Professor George struggling. “Adawehi, just stay with me, she pleaded to her Snow White wolf. Stay until it’s over.” She says through her tears. “Adawehi jumped in the crack with Celeste. He snuggled against her and tried to sooth her through her pain, but the pain was worse in her heart. Celest believed in a higher power. She prayed for it to take her and through her pain someone came to her.” The room was dead silent except for our erratic heartbeats and Professor George’s gentle voice. “And with a blinding white light a Goddess appeared to Celeste, but all Celeste cared about was Adawehi. She begged the beautiful Goddess with silver flowing hair to protect Adawehi. She didn’t care if she died, but Adawehi had a home to go back to. The Goddess asked for her hand and Celeste instinctively took it. She caressed and hugged The Moon Goddess while Celest hugged Adawehi.” “Child," she spoke, "What has you so broken? The Goddess asked Celeste, but Celeste couldn’t find the right words.” “So the Goddess placed her hands on Celest’s head and saw it in her mind. Her darling's and sisters' betrayal, her heart breaking and her fateful fall. Celeste, I can’t leave you here. The Goddess says.” Professor George continued. “Celeste’s tears fell. I just want Adawehi safe. She says through her pain. The goddess caresses Adawehi’s fur and then the thought blooms in her mind.” Professor George presses her lips together while we’re left wondering what she’s about to tell us next. “Celeste, there is only one way I can help you." She said. "The Goddess whispers to her.” “Oh dear goddess how? Nyx, please, she insisted and began to tell her that Adawehi had already agreed and the only way for her to move on was through the bond with her wolf. At first, Celeste outright refused the Goddess Nyx. She didn’t want to take Adawehi’s life, but Adawehi couldn’t live without Celeste either. Your companion wishes it. Nyx says.” “But Celeste fights through her tears and pain and holds Adawehi just a little bit tighter. You have to go back Adawehi, go with your pack. She whispers to him. But Adawehi growls in disagreement.” “You see he wishes it. So Celeste nodded and let the Goddess Nyx do whatever she was going to do. So the Goddess placed her hands on both Celete and Adawehi’s foreheads and merged them together.” I bit my lip. “When Celeste woke up she was no longer human, she was in the body of a pure white werewolf and then Adawehi spoke to her.” I swallowed another lump and my eyes stung from the tears. Oh goddess, I whispered to myself. “Be strong sister,” says Stark through our link. “You’re going to be okay,” Jace says too. I can only nod through the hurt and sadness and the pain I felt from my wolf. . “We are one now, Celeste, Adawehi told her, but then she noticed how strange Adawehi sounded. You sound female. Celeste says. Adawehi nods. It’s because I am. Celeste instantly felt bad that she thought her guardian was a male. It’s okay. Adawehi says, I forgive you.” the wolf said. “Adawehi and Celeste faced the beautiful Goddess that saved them, and bowed” “Nyx smiles, Celeste, after everything, I can’t leave you here, you deserved so much more than what they gave you, the goddess tells her.” “Adawehi howls at the moon and it’s a painful howl, the loss of a beloved and a life, but my children, Celeste said in her mind.” “The goddess understood, how can I leave them? Celeste wondered. I promise you can watch over them, but I cannot leave you here.” “But your Moon Goddess didn’t know what to make of it, her heart broke all over again, but she needed to understand and she couldn’t do that being in animal form. She thought about if she could even change back, but the Goddess smiled and gently but firmly asked her to shift back and she did, the process painful as bones broke form from wolf to human. Celeste thought that her death was easier and perhaps it was. The shift was painful and agonizing.” “ The Moon Goddess, she spoke through her shivering, but Nyx covered her naked body in a blanket and hugged her. Why can’t I stay? She wondered.” “You’re too special Celeste, I merged you with your wolf to save you. I heard your prayer and felt your pain, but I knew you didn’t belong here. Her soft melodious voice was laced with the sadness she felt. You will always be with your children, you’ll watch over them and guide them, you will even grant them a mate and maybe even a second chance mate, but their curse will be to shift into their wolf. Painful the first time they do so and pain when they reject or their mate dies.” Those were laws of our faction. “The Goddess says, caressing her tear-streaked cheek, I understand. It’s time my Moon Goddess, Nyx, kissed her forehead and with that Celeste let out one last howl to the moon and joined the goddess in her realm.” It’s safe to say that the entire class was filled with so much emotion, our despair evident and all of us shed more tears than ever before. I spaced out at some point so much so that I hadn’t even noticed that Professor George wasn’t even in the front of the classroom. Jace still held my hand, Stark held Vera’s in a vice grip, we were stiff and frozen in our seats. She makes her way back to the front. Her smile didn’t quite reach her glowing silver eyes. “So you see, The Moon Goddess was willing to give her life for that of her werewolf guardian. This is why your Alpha and Luna teach you to not reject your mate. Our fates were sealed by our Goddesses.” She says one last time. The bell rings and I feel like she left us with more questions than answers.
