The Vampire King!

~Jazabell~ I sincerely don’t know how any of us survived through second period. Professor George’s story was still replaying over and over in my head. Our Goddess was once a human………… Her familiar of a sort was a werewolf……… She felt the ripples of a bond with the man she loved while she was still human. Goddess her story was heartbreaking, but I feel like I knew this story in a way. I’ve never heard this backstory before,. Now, our Luna’s and Alpha’s always teach us pups the value of having a fated and destined mate, even second-chance mates. But we’re told those are rare to find. The rejection vow is severely frowned upon. It can sever our connection with our wolf and then we’ll just be a wolf-less human or a crazy wolf-less human or a crazy wolf without a human, but the excruciating pain that comes with rejection is unbearable. It is why we’re taught to never reject our mate. That was the pain in her heart. Celeste didn’t give two shits that she was about to die from her wounds. The pain breaking her heart was the most unbearable pain of all. The Goddess saw her love in the arms of another and her heart broke in two, the equivalent of a mate cheating. That’s why we feel like we’re dying when they do cheat. Because in the moment she wanted to die, she prayed for it, even welcomed it, but The Moon Goddess Celeste didn’t care that she was about to lose her life at all and the only thing she wanted and cared about was Adawehi's safety. It’s comforting that she wasn’t alone when it happened. She didn’t feel the pain with her shift because she was being held by The Goddess Nyx. It was after that when she wanted to shift back to her human form that she felt the pain of her wolf skeleton readjusting to her human form. That also explains why we feel pain when we first shift, but after a while you don’t feel it anymore. Professor George literally explained why we feel the pull of the bond, the electric pulse, when we make skin to skin contact with our mate. It’s the one thing I hated most about being a werewolf. Somebody had the power to reject you and in turn break you. I didn’t want that for myself and that never happened in the Academy. My Mom and Dad would kill us. It's a law punishable by death. Obviously unheard of because it's in our very DNA to want and seek out our mates. Why would we want to reject the soul that is our other half? Our wolf also craves his or her mate. It was rare that it ever happened in general here within these walls and in society, but they absolutely detested it when it did, but we were raised more accepting and here within the walls of this very Academy all the factions have found mates that were different than them. Here we didn’t have to pretend to be something we weren’t, but I also knew deep down in my bones that my mate wasn’t here. He was out there somewhere and I had no idea if he’d accept me? Or if I would ever find him. Just the simple thought that he might not. Honestly, I deeply apologize for my insecurity as a woman. I hate feeling vulnerable, like my life and my very being depend on someone else for survival. I wouldn’t be that weak mate that would cry and beg her mate to accept her. If he didn’t want me, so be it. May the Goddess be with us both. Fifteen more minutes of trigonometry with Professor Nolan and we were out. “Yeah don’t forget we’re due at the assembly hall with the Alpha and Luna.” Vera says through our link. Yes, we’re all linked like a pack. We’re linked through my parents the same way a pack is linked through their Alpha. We were essentially their pack. “s**t, I forgot about that.” Vera smiles and her purple orbs glow. I’ll never get over how beautiful she looks when they do. “I can tell, what has you stir crazy and don’t lie to me.” I bite the inside of my cheek. “V, I don’t want to talk about it.” “Is this about Jace and finding your mate and that dream book? Because Jazzy, whoever he is, he’s going to love you!” My eyes go wide with shock. “V, what in the ever loving f***k? How do you know about that?” She side eyes me and flutters her ridiculously long eyelashes at me and tops it with her mega-watt smile. “I know everything.” My eyes widen as I look at her. I place my hands on the table and then rub my temples. Vera was infuriating and annoyingly intrusive. “That was supposed to be private V.” “Please, I want help.” She says in her most annoying girly voice. “Fine, we’ll talk later after the assembly.” And as soon as we close our link, the bell goes off and we’re all scrambling our way to the Assembly hall on the first floor. When we get to the hall, everyone separates themselves into a group of their faction. Lai at the front leading the Vampires, Sophie with the Fae, Vera with the Witches, and my Stark with the Werewolves, and then there was me neither here nor there, because I was both werewolf and vampire. The Alpha and Luna were at the center of the podium microphone holding hands. They were each other’s strength and I admired them as equal partners. My Dad never walked all over my Mom. If he dished it she’d give it right back ten fold. They were equals in every sense of the word. They worked together the same way they fought together as a team. I remember a story told by my grandmother that when Stark and I were babies, rogues attacked the pack to kill the future Alpha. Keep in mind my brother and I were only babies. My Dad held the line outside and my mom fought with courage to protect her newborn pups. She killed the two rogues that got inside the pack house. She was ready to give her life for ours, but like I said, females train just as hard as males. My mom sliced them in half with my Dad’s sword. They didn’t even see her hiding in the shadows of the house. She smelled them and went into attack mode. “Students, it’s with great honor that we are speaking to you today about a very important visit. Not only for our school, but for the future of every faction here.” The Luna says with poise and grace. She smiles and my Dad gives her one of his own and with an encouraging nod for her to continue. “I want each of you to know how proud we are of all of you. Everyday you show and give us one hundred and ten percent of your abilities. You all go above and beyond and I want you all to know that your efforts and achievements don’t go unnoticed.” The student body claps and whistles. “You have all showed us that you are more than capable of holding your own here as well as in society. You have also found and formed friendships and bonds and we couldn’t be more prouder.” The Alpha adds. “The High Council has chosen to shadow St. John Academy in hopes of establishing future Academy’s with all the factions.” My Mom adds. “Minus one.” I recognized Dayna a fae’s voice. She says, giving me a snide glance from my left side. I roll my eyes because I could care less what she thinks of me. Like I said, I sat between the werewolves and vampires. Neither here nor there, because while my vampiric gene lay dormant I was still both, but I had a clear view of the four factions beside me. I didn’t spare Dayna a second glance and I saw my mom trying to suppress an eye roll of her own. She wanted to make me feel less than everyone here, but I loved that I was somehow different from the rest. Dayna also had a sick obsession with Jace. He wouldn’t come near her even with a twenty-foot pole separating them. He vehemently hated her for whatever reason. “Jealousy isn’t a good look for you,” Vera says snidely. “Ladies please,” My Dad says with his hands up trying to deflect. Vera was the leader of the witch coven here at school and although the fae had some serious magic. V came from a long line of powerful witches. She was a high-ranking witch based solely from the color of her eyes. Her distant cousin is a High Council member. I didn’t want to give V a reason to hash it out with Dayna. “The Lycan King has chosen The Vampire King to foresee the evaluation in a month’s time.” Everyone gasped, then went dead silent. My parents answered to the Lycan King as he was the ruler of all werewolves. I didn’t know much about The Vampire King, although maybe that should change and I should talk to Professor George about him, since I was part vampire. “Students, please don’t be alarmed. Thierry Deveroux is an exceptional and just ruler and there is no doubt in our minds that he will see what we see in all of you.” My Mother said proudly. The sound of his name sent a strange spark through my body. Like I'd heard that name somewhere and it gave me butterflies. My Dad makes a sound between a cough and a huff. “He won’t be alone, he will be bringing his second and third in command and a member of his personal guard. Some of you all might even remember her.” I co.cked my head ever so slightly wondering who they could be talking about, but I suppose we’d find out soon enough. “If any of you feel any type of discomfort please do not hesitate to let us know. The Luna and myself and the nurse or a teacher. We’d gladly help you through it. Having four high-ranking vampires and the King himself can trigger a shift or magic,” Mom says. “Magic doesn’t affect the first vampires, but you are all still learning and adapting and having them around can cause you distress. But we ask that you kindly show them respect and we’ll be here for whatever you may need.” Dad says with a nod. I’m well aware of how differently this assembly could have gone with Vera and Dayna at the helm, but do you see why my parents are held with the upmost respect? They’ve never had to make us submit to them. They respect us as young people as well not just their subjects. “You are dismissed.” They said in unison and we all got up and made our way out to either the dining hall or our next class. But, of course, not all of us were. ‘Vera, Jazz, Stark, Lai and Sophia you five stay put.’ My Father adds through our link. Anthony, Jace, Tate and Ethan my brothers Beta, Assassin, Gamma and Delta all gave him a look with their glowing gold eyes. One last look from Jace to me and they all walked off. “Alright, you five are the school’s council and I want you to take this seriously,” Mother says. “Why us?” Stark asks. “Why not us?” The Vampire Lai adds. The air stirred. “We’re the only school with all the factions. How that happened is beyond me, but clearly we’re setting an example and they want to see it personally.” Vera says with her head held high. Powerful energy emanated from Vera. She was so sure of herself. I only wished I had her confidence. My Dad nods. “That’s correct Vera, we’re just hoping that The Vampire King approves of what he sees here. It’s no secret that Thea and I run the school differently. We trust you all to make the right choices for yourselves and we’re here in the case that you don’t know what to make of those choices. We are here to guide and help you through.” And then I remembered something they said. “Why doesn’t magic work on the first vampires?” I asked. Mom and Dad share a look and I can’t tell if this is something they really want to share, but Dad sighs anyways. “They were created by a human that sacrificed the life of another for her own immortality. Part of that spell came from a Fae and Witch. Magic runs through their veins. It can’t hurt them. Not the King and his guard, but other vampires aren’t the same.” He said looking at Lai. Lai just looked at him and nodded. “Unlike myself, I was born not created. The King was once human, but he was created by The Immortal one who sacrificed the love of his life. I’m not immune to magic. We have no offense for it, no matter our speed or gifts. Magic will harm those of us born or created by any vampire not of his guard though.” Well s**t, how come we didn’t know this until now? Guess they still had our link open because they all turned to look at me. I shrugged, my arms crossed against my chest. “Why is his guard so special?” I asked, looking at Lai. “He and his guard were protectors in their human lives. They served the King and his family, but they were connected by a bond of their own. They were bound by blood and loyalty. When the Vampire King was turned, so were his guards. That’s why magic doesn’t affect them. Magic and blood sacrifice created the Immortal One. The Vampire King was turned by her, so magic is of no consequence to them.” Do they teach this in vampire 101? Vera smirks and Lai looks somewhat amused. “It’s part of Vampire history. Like your Moon Goddess, we have our own. Nyx was the one that heard your Goddess’s plea. Our Vampire Goddess couldn’t save her daughter. Her daughter was ruined by jealousy and hate. Nyx tried to make amends by saving the Moon Goddess Celeste.” Lai says with sadness. “So you’re saying our Goddesses are connected?” I shut my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose. So much information that I have to digest. My parents, Stark and Lai all nod. “All of us are all connected to each other in some way shape or form because we are all entwined by our history. Our factions are all part of something that happened so long ago that, by default, we are all connected to that history. It started with the Goddess Nyx and her daughter and that’s part of the very reason we all are here today.” My Mother finishes. I hung my head. What in the ever loving goddess? “Everything happens for a reason. We trust in our Goddess that the outcome is a happy one. May the Goddess be with you all.” My Dad announced, instantly dismissing us. And we all take our leave. Stark takes hold of Vera’s hand and laces their fingers together. Lai, unsure, takes Sophie’s, but with a shy smile she lets him. I walk behind them reeling from all the information I just learned.
