The Past!

~Jazabell~ I placed my hand in his just as he confirmed we’re mates and I was thrust into a vision. It wasn’t a dream, because I was fully awake and coherent. It could only mean that it was, in fact. A vision, But the Goddess only knew when because I sure as hell didn’t. The only thing I was able to make out was the body of a woman. She had a crazed look in her chocolate brown eyes, she looked exotic. Long dark wavy hair, curvy in all the right places, but thin. She was looking at something or someone as a piercing cry echoed beyond. My mate was saying something, but I couldn’t quite hear him. His voice is a faint echo in the back of my mind, while she moves over something or someone, rocking back and forth. I couldn’t make out the background. It’s dark and hazy, but I don’t miss the distinct growl in the distance. She didn’t even look slightly familiar, but her caramel skin glistened from the moonlight glow. And just as fast as it had come……it vanished in the blink of an eye. I could feel the sparks of my mate’s hands cupping my face with his beautiful eyes full of concern, his natural blue color blazed to their silver shade. While I came back to the present. To him, “Hah,” he starts, but then abruptly closes his mouth. “Are you okay? I lost you there for a second, you looked dazed.” He said, as his thumb grazed my bottom lip. A slight shiver rolled through me while the sparks of his touch ran down my face, to my neck, then down my arm and hip. Where he gently placed his hand. I squinted my eyes shut and rubbed the dull ache in my right temple. “I’m sorry, yes I’m fine, thank you for your concern.” Shit, I forgot to tell him my name. How rude. Mother will have my head for forgetting my manners and because I couldn’t keep calling him mate when he had a name. “I’m……I’m Jazabell St. John.” I said, biting my lip, looking up at him. His upper lip twitches and then it turns into a full blown double dimple smile. I can see the sharp tips of his fangs as he smiles, but I found it oddly attractive. ‘Mate is smoking hot,’ the wolf in my head says. ‘Oh so now you want to talk to me?’ I said sarcastically with an eye roll. She grumbled something inaudible and went back to the place she hid inside my head. “Hi, I’m Thierry Deveroux. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, Mate” he whispered huskily. His voice, Goddess, could he be any more alluring? He will definitely be my kryptonite. I winked at him. “I think the pleasure is all mine.” Goddess, you sure know how pick ‘em, don’t ya? I probably looked like an i***t. I never thought I could feel this way so suddenly. I felt like a school girl who found out her crush liked her back, but this wasn’t a crush, this was a mate. My mate. My Goddess fated mate. ‘Jaz?’ My brother called through our link. ‘Hmmm? Could you pick a better moment please?’ I’m too lost in my mate's eyes to care about the rest of the world behind me. I was completely and utterly smitten and maybe a little borderline obsessed with him. I mean look at him……tall and freaking gorgeous. ‘Uh, maybe you should turn around.’ he say’s. Why would I turn around? Then someone beside me clears their throat and I hear chuckles and giggle’s. So I turn. The Vampire faction are on one bended knee, their right fist over their hearts and heads bowed. “Uh what’s going on?” A deep throaty chuckle leaves Thierry’s lips. “Rise,” his voice firm and strong like an Alpha’s. Professor George and her husband stand first, then Lai followed by Itzel as they hold hands and then the rest of the faction stands behind them. “Your Highnesses, The Alpha and Luna would like a word.” The dirty blond male that held onto Vera said. “No, I’m just Jazabell or Jaz or Jazzy.” I’m rambling, oh goddess I’m making a fool out of myself. My friends all chuckle and so do their mates and suddenly I feel shy and out of place. Feeling a little lost and out of the loop because they obviously knew something that I didn’t and that wasn’t cool with me. I didn’t want to embarrass Thierry. I covered my face with my hands, trying to hide, but no such luck. He tugs my hand gently away. His eyes shine and I find that both colors suit him perfectly. I can’t pick which one I liked more, his natural blue shade or his silver ones. “What was that about?” I grumbled more to myself than anyone in particular as I looked at my friends. Jace had an amused look in his eyes, Vera was laughing, Amira was giggling against her mate's chest. While the other three Vampires smiled at me. “He’s the King,” the blonde Vampire girl smiled widely, pointing at Thierry. “The King of who?” I asked. “The Vampires,” Vera's mate adds, his voice strong and authorative, And then it all clicks together. I had a moment, a lap in memory as well as intellect. The Vampire King was coming and he was already here and he is my mate. Wholy f**k I’m a king’s mate? “Oh s**t’taki mushrooms……you’re……” I sputtered. Thierry chuckles with a slight shrug of his shoulders. “I should have been clearer when I introduced myself.” “You’re the Vampire King.” It wasn’t a question. Honestly, I was stupefied. The Vampire King was my mate. Out of everyone in the world, this beautiful man belonged to me. And I was completely okay being his, I didn’t know a single thing about being a mate, but I had questions that only he could answer. I just hoped he wouldn’t leave me in the dark and try to be a hero. All I want is to be his equal. That’s what my parents always taught us. That mates are equals and he doesn’t have to carry any burden on his own, because that’s why we have each other and the very reason we belong together. I was there to stand beside him through whatever came to us. I just have to remind him that we’re stronger together. “So duty call’s then?” I said, biting my lip. His eyes narrow, but he smiles a sexy half smile. “It appears it does, but can we talk after? If you’re available, of course.” And I found it oddly empowering that he asked instead of assuming or demanding we speak later. He actually asked me. “Yes, later, after I shower and dinner. Wait or do you eat? Sh.it that was rude. I mean……” crap, I felt my face heat up. Thierry chuckles and so does his guard. “A few bites won’t hurt” he says, but I see the little silver twinkle in them. Oh boy, “Uh,” he’s flirting and I’m not good at flirting. I caught the double innuendo. I’m sure he felt my hesitation and my mind was blown because The King of the Vampire’s is trying to be cute. “Not like that, but a little food won’t hurt.” I can see he’s trying to reassure me with an entire audience behind us watching and hearing. The inhuman ones anyway. I sigh and give him a reassuring smile of my own. “Shower and dinner. Sounds like a plan.” And I was looking forward to having a conversation with my mate after all. This was truly going to be an interesting relationship, but first I had to lay it all down. I was a hybrid, I have strange, unexplained visions, And did he really want to try this mate thing? I was willing. I just hoped that after we had a conversation it didn’t end up in a broken and rejected bond.
