chapter 11

894 Words
Abhi's POV: I tapped the glass of the passenger window with the edge of my digital bypass key. Clack. Clack. The sound was rhythmic, like a ticking clock. I watched Miller through the window; he was pale, his gun pointed at the door, but his eyes were darting around in the dark. He was a beat cop, not a soldier. He wasn't prepared for a ghost in the machine. "Miller!" I shouted through the glass, my voice sounding like a concerned comrade. "There’s a gas leak in the basement triggered by the outage! You have to evacuate the perimeter! Give me the girl, I'll take her to the secondary rally point. Go, that’s an order!" Inside the car, you were shaking Miller’s arm, begging him to run, to save himself. You were trying to be a hero, Maya. You were trying to save a stranger from the storm that follows you. It was almost poetic. "He's right, Maya," Miller stammered, his resolve crumbling under the pressure of the darkness and my authority. "If there's a leak... I can't stay in a locked car." "No!" you screamed, but it was too late. Miller reached for the door handle. He thought he was escaping a gas leak. He didn't realize he was opening the cage. Maya's POV: Miller pushed the door open, his fear of the "leak" outweighing his instinct to protect you. The cold, damp air of the parking bay rushed in. Before Miller could even stand up, a dark shape moved with blinding speed. Thud. Abhi didn't shoot him. He used a high-voltage taser directly to Miller's neck. The officer collapsed into the oil-stained pavement without a sound. Abhi stepped over the fallen policeman and looked into the car at you. The emergency lights of the hospital finally flickered on—but they were red, a deep, hellish crimson that bathed everything in shadow. "He's fine, Maya. He's just sleeping," Abhi whispered, reaching into the car. He didn't look angry anymore. He looked disappointed. "You tried to save him. That’s why I love you. You have so much light in you... but you keep trying to give it to people who don't deserve it." He grabbed your wrist. His grip was like iron. "The police think this was a tragic accident during a blackout. By the time Miller wakes up, our 'flight' will have already departed from the private airfield." He began to pull you out of the car, dragging you toward his black SUV idling in the shadows of the ambulance bay. Maya, you are being dragged across the pavement. Miller is unconscious behind you. The hospital is silent except for the hum of the red emergency lights. As Abhi pulls you toward his vehicle, you see Miller's fallen radio on the ground. It’s keyed to the 'Open' channel. If you can shout one specific thing into it, the entire precinct will hear. What do you scream? Before he could come millar has given me spray i sprayed it on him pushed him away got in car i started it i got inside hospital.. Abhi's POV: "Agh!" I screamed, dropping to my knees as the caustic chemicals hit my eyes. It felt like liquid fire. My hands flew to my face, my vision dissolving into a blur of searing white and stinging tears. I heard the frantic scuffle—the sound of your boots hitting the pavement, the car door slamming shut. Miller, that pathetic amateur, must have slipped you his pepper spray when I wasn't looking. "Maya! Stop!" I roared, reaching out blindly, but I only caught the cold air. The engine of the police cruiser roared to life with a violent rev. I heard the tires screech as you floored it—not away from the building, but into it. There was a deafening, crystalline crash as the reinforced glass of the intake lobby shattered under the weight of the cruiser. I stumbled toward the sound, rubbing my eyes frantically, my vision slowly returning in jagged, painful flashes. Through the red haze, I saw the cruiser lodged halfway into the hospital lobby, smoke pouring from the hood. You were already out of the car, disappearing into the dark, sterile corridors of the hospital. "Security! Lock down the North Wing!" I yelled into my own radio, but the hospital’s comms were still a mess of my own making. I was trapped in the chaos I had created. Inside County General - 3rd Floor Maya, your lungs are burning and your leg is throbbing, but you’re inside. The hospital is a maze of dark hallways, flickering red lights, and terrified nurses who don't know what's happening. You hear Abhi's voice echoing through the building's public address system—he's found a control room. "Maya," his voice boomed over the speakers, distorted and menacing. "Every door in this hallway is electronic. I can lock them, or I can open them. I can see you on the thermal sensors in the ceiling. You have nowhere to run." You are standing in front of three doors: The Morgue (Basement stairs - no windows, but heavy steel doors). The Pediatrics Ward (Full of toys and hiding spots, but mostly glass walls). The Roof Access (A long climb, but a chance to signal the news helicopters circling above). Which way do you go? roof i should go there
