Chapter 1 - The Wedding Night
So, Alice and Robert got tangled up in this marriage mess for family reasons. Robert barely knew Alice, just saw her a few times in their childhood. Now, when he sees her again, all he feels is hate, despite her being a total beauty. Why? Well, she could've said no to this marriage like he did, but nope, she went ahead with it. And guess who had to tag along? Yep, Robert, all thanks to his parents' orders and the whole "business and family stability" spiel.
It was like a family deal for the sake of their businesses. Both sides were supposed to benefit, especially the Grahams, who hit the jackpot with this union. The wedding involved both families, the big-shot Taylors and the mighty Grahams.
Lots of important folks attended, witnessing the merging of these two influential families. But here's the twist: Behind all the smiles and hugs, when they finally got some alone time, Robert shoots Alice these looks of pure disdain. In their hotel room, the one they'd spend their first night in before the honeymoon, Robert unloads all his frustration on his twenty-year-old wife.
She's the youngest Taylor sister, Alice.
"Do you really think I'm suddenly gonna love you just because we're hitched?!" he barks at her, leaving her stunned. Who'd have guessed Robert Graham would act like this? "Is that what you think?!" he adds, all angry. "You must be dumb to believe that, Alice. I'd never love you, and you forced me into this mess! It's all your fault we're married!"
There they are, newlyweds, and everything's already going south. Why's he acting like this on their first alone time? Is this how he's gonna be?
Can you believe it? The good-looking and well-behaved Robert, the younger of the Graham brothers and now in charge of the family business, treating his wife like this?
"It wasn't me who forced you," she stammers. They're basically strangers. Alice is the youngest of five sisters, all married to important dudes just like Robert Graham. She's the last single Taylor, sealing the deal for her parents with the Grahams.
But when Alice finds out Robert didn't want to get hitched, she begs her parents to call it off. No luck. They ignore her, saying no one can say no to her. If they cancel at the Grahams' request, it'd seem like the Taylors are weaker. So, even though Alice refuses, the wedding has to happen.
Now, in that room, there are just two people who don't love each other and probably never will. A husband looking at his wife with hate, blaming her for a marriage he didn't want, and a wife who never wanted it, doing all she can to stop it.
"Undress," he orders, looking at her on the bed. Alice doesn't move. "Undress! You're my wife, and you'll do what I say. You wanted this union, so now you're in it with me."
As Alice gets off the bed, she glances up at her husband, only to see a cold, hateful expression. A strong hatred toward her.
Her hands shake as she starts lowering her dress, ending up in her underwear in front of him.
Robert snorts at the sight of his wife's curves. That sound of disdain makes Alice cover herself in shame, embarrassed about her weight and body shape.
Warm tears keep wetting her face.
He's disgusted by her not-so-flat stomach, her wide hips, and rounded legs.
Walking toward her, he makes her lower her hands so he can get a better look under the yellow light illuminating them.
"You don't have to do this," she whispers, hoping he won't look at her like that, showing his contempt for her and her appearance. "You don't have to do anything. We're married, that's it, Robert. Don't see it as a duty. Especially if you hate me like that. We can... do nothing." Her words aren't a suggestion, but a plea.
"Now you're still bossing me around? First, you make us tie the knot, and now you're dictating the bedroom rules." He grabbed her face, not too gently, and pulled it towards him. The fact that she could order him around bothered him even more. "What else are you gonna command me to do, huh? Don't you get it? Now that we're hitched, I'm supposed to be your 'owner'?" Did he just use that word? It sounded pretty caveman-like to Alice. "You can't boss around the mighty Alice Taylor. Got it?"
"Robert, that's not what I'm trying to do. I'm not trying to boss you around," she said, still shaky. It's not like she wanted to be the boss, but if he didn't want her, why go through with it? What's the point when she couldn't stand him that much?
"You think you're better than me, I see it in your eyes," he accused.
"It's not true! It's not true!"
"Don't raise your voice at me!"
"Then listen to what I'm telling you! I didn't want this marriage either. I love someone else!" That confession probably wasn't the smartest move. Robert's face turned into a whole mood of displeasure. It was the worst thing Alice could say that night.
Upon that confession, Robert stepped back, creating some distance. Alice rushed to grab her dress and tried to bolt for the bathroom, but Robert blocked her path.
"No passing through."
"Who is it? Who do you love?" That was something Alice couldn't spill because it was Robert's best friend, Jared Sinclair. But it was a silent love, never confessed, never put out there. Alice hadn't said a word to Jared since their college days, but she'd been smitten ever since.
"You don't know him," he lied. "Let me go to the bathroom, please."
"Tell me who it is, Alice Taylor. Who the hell do you love? Say it!"
"You don't know him! You don't know who he is!" she exclaimed, tired of the conversation.
He grabbed her arms and shook her, causing the dress to slip from her hands, leaving Alice standing there in the buff again.
"Go to bed," he ordered, pushing her towards it. Now Robert started undressing. Terrified, Alice watched her husband approach.
She had mentally prepped for this, knowing she was hitched to a practically unknown guy, surrendering without any love involved. But she didn't expect Robert Graham to be mad at her, and she surely didn't expect him, with all the contempt he showed, to want to claim her on their wedding night. All the preparation in the world couldn't ready her for that moment. Alice was scared out of her mind; she didn't want this, and from the way her husband was acting, she knew it was gonna be a rough first time.
"Robert... please," she said, crying. Robert was already by her side, getting rid of her underwear. "We don't have to do this."
Naked, he started touching her, and Alice's body trembled with fear. He laid her on the bed, positioned himself over her, running his hand through her hair, kissing her neck and shoulders. But he avoided her lips, trying not to look at her face. He spread her legs, moistened his member, and started the act, without any care. Even though he realized she was a virgin, even though he knew it was Alice Taylor's first time.
It was the worst night for Alice Taylor, where she only endured the pain, the disgust, and even the growing repulsion towards the man with the image of her true love in her mind, always keeping him present to endure it. That night, she realized neither of them could ever love each other. Without even knowing her, he already hated her, thinking she was the reason for this forced marriage.
