After being publicly humiliated and dumped in front of the entire campus by her longtime boyfriend, Westview University's star hockey captain, Ethan, Elena Hart comes up with the perfect revenge plan: fake date someone guaranteed to make him regret losing her.

The problem?

That someone is Evan Carter, Ethan's quiet, mysterious identical twin brother.

What begins as a simple arrangement to shatter Ethan’s pride soon turns dangerous as feelings blur and lines begin to cross. Because Evan isn't just playing along anymore, he’s stepping out of the shadows, lacing up his skates, and ready to take back the spot on the ice he gave up years ago.

Revenge was never supposed to ignite an all-out war between the brothers. And it was never supposed to end with Elena falling for the twin who is ready to claim it all.

Chapter 1: Red Illusion
Elena's POV The bass from the hockey house rattled the windows of Maya’s car as she pulled up to the curb. I stared down at my phone screen for the hundredth time. Blank. No Happy Anniversary No I can't wait to see you. Nothing. "Elena, put the phone away," Maya said, killing the engine and turning to face me. "He hasn't texted you all day." "He's under a lot of stress, Maya," I argued, holding tight to my phone like a lifeline. "He's the hockey team captain now. Between scouts, training, and setting up the party, he’s totally swamped. He just doesn't have time to text all the time." "This isn't all the time," Maya snapped gently, her eyes full of frustration. "It’s your five year anniversary today. The entire campus knows about this hockey party, but your own boyfriend couldn't bother to send a single text?" "He's busy...." "No," Maya cut in, reaching over to squeeze my shoulder. "That’s why I dressed you up in this dress. You are going in there, you are going to find Ethan, and you are going to make him see what he's neglecting. Go see for yourself." I took a deep breath, smoothing down the tight red silk that wrapped around my curves, and nodded. "Okay. I'll go inside." The front lawn was a chaotic sea of students. I stepped out of the car and pushed through the front doors into the sweltering, crowded house. The heavy scent of cheap alcohol and expensive cologne filled the air. "Elena?" I turned to see Marcus, Ethan’s teammate and close friend, leaning against the kitchen counter with a red cup in hand. He blinked, his jaw almost dropping as his eyes swept up and down my red dress. He was used to seeing me in oversized hoodies and leggings whenever I hung around Ethan. "Damn, Elena," Marcus smirked, taking a slow sip. "If I knew you were hiding a body like that under those baggy clothes, I would’ve tried to steal you from Ethan months ago." I bristled, crossing my arms slightly over my chest. "Where's Ethan, Marcus?" Marcus’s smirk wavered, his eyes flickering past me shiftily. He clearly knew something he wasn't saying. "Uh, I’m not really sure, honestly. The place is packed." "Marcus," I said, stepping closer, my voice firm. "Where is my boyfriend?" Marcus sighed, lowering his cup. His tone lost its playful edge, turning surprisingly warning. "Look, Elena... you shouldn't be here tonight. Seriously. Just go back to your dorm. You're not going to like whatever you find in this house." "Get out of my way," I snapped, pushing past his broad shoulder before he could stop me. I was done waiting. I marched deeper into the house, checking room after room to find him. I yanked open the first door off the main hallway, it was a crammed bedroom filled with people taking shots and screaming over beer pong. I slammed it shut and moved to the next door. I pushed open a half closed bedroom door down the hall, and my face immediately flushed hot. On the bed, two people were completely naked, locked together, the guy rocking heavily on top of a blonde girl who was gasping wildly against his mouth. They didn't even notice me as I slammed the door shut, my chest heaving. Desperate to get away from the noise, I hurried toward the shadowy, quiet hallway near the back exit. And then, near the glass balcony doors, I saw him. He was standing in the dim shadows, broad shouldered, towering, leaning casually against the wall in his signature black varsity jacket. Relief rushed through me so fast my knees almost buckled. I knew Maya was wrong, I thought, a breathless smile touching my lips. He was just busy. He wasn't avoiding me, he’s just been here the whole time. "Ethan," I breathed, stepping straight into his space. Before he could answer, I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling myself up on my tiptoes, and threw my body against his. "I knew you were just busy," I whispered against his skin. "I knew you didn't forget our anniversary" I pressed my lips to his. I expected the comfortable, familiar kiss we’d shared for five years. But the second our lips met, a sudden shockwave of pure electricity shot straight down my spine. He froze for a fraction of a second, his entire body going rock hard beneath my touch. Then, with a low, rough gasp, his large hands clamped onto my waist. The grip was possessive, bruising, and fiercely commanding. He yanked me flush against his chest, crushing me against his heat as his mouth took mine with a dark, consuming hunger. It wasn't gentle. It was intense, raw, and completely overwhelming. Heat pooled violently between my thighs, my breath hitching as a sudden, shameless shudder ran through my entire body. I pulled him closer, utterly lost in a fire I had never felt before. My head spun, completely riled up, before the sheer intensity of it forced me to break away for air. "Ethan..." I panted, my hands resting on his broad chest, my lungs burning. I raised my eyes to meet his. My breath completely halted. The eyes staring down at me weren't Ethan’s restless amber brown. They were a deep, stormy, turbulent gray, dark, intense, and heavily focused entirely on me. "Elena," he rasped, his voice a deep, gravelly hum that vibrated straight through my ribs. My stomach dropped into a bottomless pit. The heavy, possessive hands still gripping my waist tightly weren't Ethan's. It was Evan. Ethan’s twin brother. "Evan?" I choked out, horrified, trying to pull back. But his grip didn't loosen, his stormy gray eyes searching my face with a terrifying stillness. Before I could speak, a loud, wet gasp echoed from the glass patio doors right behind him. Instinctively, I looked past Evan’s shoulder out onto the balcony. The air was violently sucked from my lungs. Out under the dim patio lights was Ethan. He was completely shirtless, his sweat-glistening chest exposed to the cool night air. Pushed up against him was Tiffany, the lead cheerleader, the undisputed hottest, most gorgeous girl on campus, with long blonde hair and a flawless body. Tiffany’s legs were wrapped tightly around Ethan’s thighs as they rocked hard against each other against the stone railing. Ethan’s hands were buried in her waist, his face buried in her neck, trailing hot, desperate kisses and licks down her skin as she threw her head back, laughing loudly, both of them completely lost in each other. My world shattered in a single second. My hands frantically reached out, gripping Evan’s dark varsity jacket tightly, clutching the heavy fabric in my fists as I leaned into him, using his solid, unmoving chest as the only anchor keeping me from collapsing onto the floor.
