*Jaxon’s POV*
I exited the room quickly and headed down to my office. When my pack members had found out I returned with a new member people started talking. Some were scared at what this meant, others said I had made a huge mistake. I called this meeting as I needed to set them all straight. The gossip going around would get mixed up as it went along and it would do more harm than good.
My members needed to be open to the idea of accepting Piper as a leader. She’s my mate and I’m their alpha. If they disrespected her it would be like disrespecting me as well. Together I knew she and I could do amazing things for the Dark Moon pack. It would just take some time for us to get there.
I opened the door to the office where my members were waiting for me. I shut the door behind me and headed for the seat of my desk. “I figured we would meet here and then I will address the rest of the pack.” I spoke as I took my seat.
I had only called the pack members I needed to help keep people from talking. There were four of them seated. These were my sentinel members. They were two pairs that were mated to each other as well. Mason with Allison and Tyler with Juliet. These four were handpicked by me. They didn’t have any authority really unless I was going to be away and gave it to them. They were highly respected by our pack members though.
“Alpha Jaxon, why would you bring a member of the Moon Stone back with you?” Mason asked. He was a little older than I was. His hair was a dirty blonde and he had brown eyes.
“Because it’s more complicated than you think.” I answered. “She’s not just a Moon Stone pack member. She’s my mate.”
“You can’t be serious?!” Allison gasped. Her dark red hair flowed down to her shoulders and her green eyes were wide. “But she’s a threat!”
“It doesn’t matter.” I responded. “She’s my fated mate. She’s going to be staying here, with me.” I made sure they knew this was not something I was willing to negotiate on.
“Alpha Jaxon, it’s too risky to have her here. What if they come for her and attack the rest of us?” Tyler asked. He had short brown hair and eyes to match.
“They won’t.” My tone was short with him. “A deal was made. She’s here and that’s final. The rest of the members will have to deal with it as well.”
“Why should we trust this? You want us to keep the other members quiet about the issue but why? Why shouldn’t people have their guards up about her?” Juliet asked. She had long blonde hair and grey eyes.
“Nikko, do you think Piper is a threat?” I asked my beta without breaking my stare at the four werewolves in front of me.
Nikko let out a scoff. “No. She seems stubborn, and by the way she looks I bet she’ll be a good fighter. But I don’t feel like she’s a threat to our pack.”
“Okay, but what about Moon Stone?” Mason asked. “We’ve heard how she was going to be their luna. Even if a deal was made I don’t see them staying away from her forever. Especially with the upcoming alpha of pack.”
“Matteo is nothing to fear. I can assure you of that.” I was confident in my response. There was a reason that they chose to give up Piper rather than fight for her. They knew they couldn’t beat me. “Now I feel like the questions you’re going to ask the rest of the pack will also want to know the answers to. Let’s move this to the meeting hall and talk more with everyone else.”
They all nodded in agreement. I stood up from my desk and headed for the door to the office. The other four got up and walked behind me. Nikko was the last one out to make sure things were locked for me. I led the way down the hall to the massive meeting room. I headed for the small stage area where I could go and address everyone. The four behind me took their seats at the front of the crowd.
Our pack was one of the biggest ones around. We had a total of five hundred members. One hundred of those were my fighters. There were another hundred who helped watch our perimeter and reported anything that seemed off. We had so many as they traded off back and forth when they went out. The rest of the members lived in the pack and helped keep things running around here.
“I know you all have concerns about the wolf that returned with me. I have no problem addressing them but know that she is here to stay.” I spoke loud enough they could all hear me.
“Why? What’s so special about her?” One of the pack members stood up and spoke.
I sighed to myself. I didn’t want to have to keep explaining this over and over. “Because she’s my mate and your future luna.”
“Alpha Jaxon, we’re not comfortable with her here. She’s our enemy and we have children here to think about!” One of the female members spoke up. “How can we have a luna we can’t trust?”
“I understand where you’re coming from.” I responded. “I can assure you that this pack is my priority and a mate will not be changing that. If I feel like she is a threat then I will deal with it accordingly, even if that means rejecting her.”
It was my alpha duty to put everyone here first. As much as I hated the thought of rejecting Piper, if it had to be done then it had to be done. I had a gut feeling that it wouldn’t need to come to that though. I could tell she was someone who liked doing the right thing to help protect the ones she cared about. She would eventually come to our side, once she had the whole truth.
“What if she only came here to work with Moon Stone?” Another member chimed into the conversation.
“She’s not.” I confidently spoke to the crowd. “She doesn’t know what her pack was doing. She hasn’t been working with them, she just was doing what she had been told.”
I understood their worry. The Dark Moon pack wasn’t huge on outsiders. They had been a little standoffish with me when I had taken over the alpha role. If Piper did join us then she would have to prove herself. Just like I had to do years ago.
“So she doesn’t know about the kidnappings then?” Mason asked with a puzzled expression. “As there soon to be luna how could she not know about them?”
“Because as I suspected, she’s one of the ones who was taken as a pup. She has no idea that her parents were slaughtered so that Alpha Bradley could take her to be part of his pack.” I answered. “He couldn’t tell her or it would raise a red flag and she wouldn’t be willing to take on the luna role.”
I could hear the crowd talking with each other. I cleared my throat to draw their attention back to me.
“With that being said, any of you who end up meeting her are not allowed to discuss it with her.” My tone was stern. “She will learn the truth about Moon Stone from me and only me. If I find out any of you took it upon yourself to try to speak to her about this matter you will be dealt with immediately.”
They all seemed to nod in agreement.
“And when exactly do you plan to tell her?” Allison asked.
“Soon. She won’t be marked by me until she knows the truth and is fully committed to becoming the luna you all deserve.” I answered. “And if after she learns the truth she would rather be with them then she can go. Then we will resume the plan we had before and set back out to make Moon Stone extinct. They know they can’t beat us.”
“How are you going to get the mark from the Moon Stone alpha off of her if she decides to fight with us?” A member asked. “We all heard he marked her already, that alone causes us to not trust her.”
“He marked her because they were chosen mates. Once she knows the truth she’ll practically beg for it to be taken off of her. While it’s still on her he still has a connection and I have the feeling she’ll want that taken away as as soon as possible.” I was confident with my answer. “And as we all know, a true mate’s mark can overtake the one of a chosen. She just has to be willing to let me mark her first.”
Moon Stone had been up to some bad things and this was one of them. They liked having the best of the best in their pack. They didn’t care if they had to steal them from the others. If the parents weren’t willing to give up their children, they were killed so the pup could be taken anyway. They always took them when they were younger, before they could really remember anything before Moon Stone as that would cause issues in their plan. That’s why Piper had no memory of her parents.
That was only the start of the twisted things Moon Stone was a part of. The rest I would have to dive into with Piper one on one. I knew she would want proof and I had to take my time to gather that. She wouldn’t take my word for it because to her I was the one she needed to worry about, I was the enemy. It was going to be a lot for her to take in that she had been sleeping with the true enemy before.
I let out a low growl to myself. The thought that Matteo had deceived her so much pissed me off. He tricked her into letting him mark her and couldn’t even be truthful. I knew he was aware of what his father had done. The only thing I didn’t know was why it was Piper who had been chosen. Of all the female wolves they had taken, why did he mark her?
