Perhaps the world ended for most people in the May of that year the dinosaurs came back, but for Daniel it had ended almost a year before, during the school summer holidays. Although his mother had been a dysfunctional, controlling, emotional wreck, he had still loved her. In one way, it was hard to explain how he could love someone like that, but in another, it was simple: she was his mother. In the blur of events that followed her death, Daniel had precious little time to grieve properly for her.
