First Day
"Finally I am here!" She exclaimed as she reached her campus, miles away from her home and the scrutiny of her friends and relatives.
Since a very young age, Ignisia wanted to explore the outside world and has been waiting for this day when she could happily leave her past behind and live life to the fullest.
All her paperwork was done a week before when she came to the campus with her father.
She drags her luggage to the room allotted: Room no. 127.
The empty room indicated that her roommates were yet to arrive and so she chose the corner by the window, makes her bed, shelves all her clothes, and after a whole day of work, she finally falls flat to her bed! Tomorrow is going to be her first day at college. Excited? Nah! She was super pumped! Even after a tiring day, she could not sleep the whole night, thinking about her FIRST DAY!
Ignisia was the perfect daughter her parents could ask for- good in studies, co-curricular activities; a teacher's pet, and the best friend to all her classmates. For the past 18 years or for the most of her childhood she remembers, she has strived for excellence to ensure the smile on her beloved and near ones... and in the way forgetting about her own smile and desires. She always kept to herself. She never complained and did what others felt right.
Waking up to her alarm, she gets ready on time for her first class. Though she barely slept the last night, there was no sign of fatigue in her eyes. She could go days without proper sleep and still feel energetic.
The campus was all green, a happy color, she thought as she marched towards her class. The corridors were old and huge. Students were all hustling around, talking, laughing, singing, and even dancing. She with an innocent face was looking around trying to figure out which way to go. She had a pamphlet in her hand. It contained all the information about the time-table, the number of classes to be held, and the classroom. But amidst the chaos, she felt lost. Checking out the room numbers, she felt someone went past by.
She called out to her.
"Hey! Do you know where the class geography will be for the students of the first year?"
"Yes! Actually, I am also in the same class, so you can come along."
"Okay!" Exclaimed Ignisia.
"By the way, I am Rimi."
"And I am Ignisia"
"OH! That's a great name"
"Seriously? You think so?"
"Yeah! Heard this name for the first time, and you know rare is elite."
"Ah! Thanks, Rimi, you made me feel ELITE!" And both started laughing.
"So, we have arrived madam." Ignisia pointed.
"Lead the way, madam ELITE!" Smirked Rimi.
The classroom was empty when they arrived. Ignisia felt relieved that she isn't late for her first class.
Ignisia headed towards the first bench to sit while Rimi was quite the last bencher. And so after some persuasion from both sides, they finally agreed to sit in one of the middle benches.
The class was supposed to start 10 minutes before, but still, there was no sign of the professor.
"So where are you from?" Rumi asked.
"I am from Lesian state, It takes about 8 hours from here via train."
"you have come quite a far lady. I just stay a few km down the hill."
They exchanged their numbers, found out that their rooms were in the same lobby, and had nothing in common!
Ignisia had many friends before but never could she be her true self when with them. They always did what they felt like, decided what was cool and not so cool, and poor Ignisia had to follow their lead. But after meeting Rimi, she realized what a true friend is. Even though they were quite different, she respected her opinions and choices and vowed to keep things shared, always between them. This was new to Ignisia as she refrained from sharing anything personal with her schoolmates since they were judgemental and any news would spread like wildfire.
The class timing was almost about to get over. There were a few students at the corner but was no sign of the professor. So they went to the department office to find out about the rest of the classes for the day. It seemed like the professors didn't expect that students would turn up on their very first day and so they were not taking the classes. The man in the office inquired about the number of students that came for the class, to which Rimi replied approx 30 students. The man in the office informed then that maybe the professors might start taking the class from the next week as more students were expected to join.
"A WEEK! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?" Ignisia thought as she turned with a blank face towards Rimi, but she looked excited, grinning from one end to the other.
They left the office, Ignisia was clueless about what to do next, but it seemed that Rimi had already made some plans.
Rimi was short-built with dreamy eyes. Ignisia wondered how come no one has dived into those eyes yet. Rimi had mentioned that she loved her own company and though had many friends, she preferred going to places alone. But she made an exception for Ignisia. She said, as you are new to the town, it's my duty to accompany you or rather to take you with me whenever and wherever I go. Ignisia was cheered up with the idea that she now finally can hope to find her best friend in Rimi.
Rimi shared that she was invited to some party earlier today but thought that she won't be going but now as there are no classes and she also has Ignisia, she can go to the party.
Thus, Ignisia's first day was not going to be the way she thought it would be.
