contracted Breeder
The sound of someone banging my door jolted me awake. My eyes dramatically widened when I registered the light already filling the room. I grabbed my old alarm timer and my heart trembled with fear. It was already eight in the morning. I was supposed to be awake by five. “ I'm going to kill you if you don't step out this minute.” Michelle,my step mother, roared and I flinched from the raw hatred in those few words. I jumped out of bed and flinched from the pain of the beatings I had received from her last night. I knew it was going to be the same. After throwing my old dress on, I stalked to the door and pulled it open. Michelle stood there like an angel of hell, ready to unleash her fury on me. “What time is it? Who gave you the right to keep your sorry arse in bed?” She thundered before slapping me across the face. The impact of her slap slammed me against the door frame and for a splitting second, my vision darkened. Tears stung in my eyes but I held them back. Crying would only make things worse. “ You better make sure breakfast is ready before Morgan wakes up or you will be sorry.” She ordered before pushing me across the room and stalking away. I struggled to pick myself up before dashing to the kitchen. Despite being the first daughter of Alpha Maddox, I was treated like a slave in my own home. My father never bothered to protect me against the mother and daughter duo who took every chance they got to bully me. If anything, I dreaded getting on his bad side. He was far worse than Michelle and Morgan. My father would constantly remind me that I am the pack’s disgrace, the daughter he was ashamed of acknowledging as his own. Actually, my father wasn't always like this. He used to be the best father anyone could ever wish for. That's until on my twelve birthday, I insisted on going to the city to buy a birthday present. On our way back, we were attacked by rogues and my mother lost her life protecting me. After my mother's death, my father turned from the sweet dad to a monster I could not recognize. He blamed me for my mother's death and whipped me every chance he got. Months later, he brought home Michelle and Morgan and my already bad life worsened. He openly declared that Morgan was his only daughter, shunning me. The respect I had as the Alpha’s daughter vanished and in place came mockery and disdain. For the past five years, that has been my life. In the kitchen, I hastened to make scrambled eggs and bacon. It didn't take me long before everything was ready. I carried the food to the dining table just in time for Morgan to descent the stairs. I dipped my head low and tried to keep my presence as small as possible. After arranging the table, I turned around and started walking to the kitchen. “ Stop right there!” Morgan yelled and I stiffened, my steps halting immediately. Her footsteps approached me, slow and deliberate. “ Look at me.” She ordered and I lifted my face in obedience. Morgan smiled at me before taking my hand in hers. “Raven,” she started, “ I know I have been a bad sister to you since I arrived. Now, I want to change that.” Morgan declared and my eyes widened in shock. I pulled my hands away and shook my head vehemently. “There's no need. You are not bad.” She was trying to trap me again, right? The last time she did that, I ended up unable to walk for days. She complained to Alpha Maddox that I called her names. With her mother fanning the flames, I was given the beating of my life. I wanted to turn around and run away but Morgan snatched my hands, her grip on my wrist tight. “ I mean it, Raven. I am not playing any tricks.” My eyes scanned her face and the ruthless glint she always wears when pranking me wasn't there. “ I want us to be sisters for real. To show you that I mean it, take this.” She said and handed me a card. “ This is the invitation to the school party which will be happening later today at school. Don't miss it.” She insisted, flashed me a smile and released my hands. I watched as she settled on the dining table and started eating her breakfast, completely ignoring me. I turned around and walked back to the kitchen to clean up. After that, I grabbed a toast of bread and munched on it as I headed back to my room. I took a shower, put on my best dress and left the house. Since my father forbade me from being driven to school in a car as opposed to Morgan, I climbed on my bicycle and started cyling to school. Throughout the day, I spent all the time pondering about Morgan’s offer. I wondered if it was a good idea to attend. Did she really mean it that she wanted us to become sisters for real? The idea excited me. Everything else aside,I always wished to have a sibling. However, my mother couldn't conceive again after giving birth to me. Apparently, my pregnancy left her womb weak and unable to carry another pregnancy to term. When Morgan arrived at the pack and Alpha Maddox announced her as his daughter, I thought that I would finally have a sister. My delusions ended after she slapped me for touching her and threw all my stuff from my then room before making it her own. I shiver from the memory. Maybe Morgan was alright. This could be a fresh start between us. When the end of classes bell rang, I packed my bag and clutched the invitation card and left the room. The party was supposed to be held at the swimming pool lobby. Being the Alpha’s daughter, Morgan gets the authority to throw such parties without being questioned by anyone, not even the school principal. My legs carried me to the location. Seeing how fancy everyone was dressed, I felt uncomfortable from the old dress I wore. It was the best I could get. I walked with unconfident strides. Morgan might have invited me to the party. That doesn't mean her minions would be pleased to have me among themselves. “ Guess who just joined us today? The pack's outcast!” Someone shouted, drawing the attention of everyone. The attending people turned to look at me, making me feel conscious. “ Is that Morgan’s old dress she is wearing? Tsk! You can't even afford a decent dress, who gave you the right to attend the party? This is not a peasant’s meeting.” Another lady mocked, and they all burst out laughing. I felt humiliated. I felt insulted but I was used to it. I could take anything if it meant being on good terms with Morgan. Besides,I expected that would happen. “ Enough! Don't make fun of my sister.” Morgan declared, silencing everyone. “ Raven is my guest. I invited her.” She added, defending me before her crew. I felt warm inside as Morgan approached me with a smile on my face. “ Only I can bully her.” She declared before shoving me hard. I didn't realize I was standing near the edge of the pool until the freezing cold water kissed my skin. Laughter erupted as they all turned to look at me fighting to keep afloat.
