Raven pov
I jumped, startled. When I turned around, Alex stood there, staring at me with a soft expression on his face.
" What the hell are you doing here?" I asked, looking around to see if anyone was in the vicinity.
" I came to see you.I know it's your birthday." Alex replied and my eyes widened. Those words warmed my heart. At least someone remembered today was my birthday. However, his presence was only going to get me into trouble.
" Alex, I appreciate your concern but you should not be here. I don't want to get into trouble with Morgan again." I informed him and a guilty look painted his face.
" Yesterday... " He trailed off and I nodded.
" I don't want to face the Alpha again." I pleaded with him. Alex nodded. He knew exactly what happened every time I was caught in the wrong.
" I'm sorry. I only wanted to accompany you on your special day." Alex whispered and I didn't know how to feel about his confession.
" Why? Why would you want to do that when you already denied our bond?" I didn't want to have any negative emotions on my special day but I just couldn’t understand him.
" What do you want from me? You chose power over the sacred bond between us,a blessing from the moon Goddess. Now,you pity me?" I raised my voice at him. Alex looked away and a flicker of guilt flashed through his eyes.
" I'm sorry Raven." He whispered and my anger flared.
" You are sorry? That's all you can say to me?" I snapped.
" I can't say no to the Alpha and you know that. Besides,you are just..." Alex trailed off and looked away.
" I am just a weak, pathetic and unloved omega right? Is that what you wanted to say to me?" I shouted, not caring if anyone heard us. Alex sighed and took a step towards me but I backed away.
" I never said that." He defended himself.
" You might as well have. " I retorted and he frowned.
" I have no choice but to obey him." Alex repeated but I was not having it.
" Yeah right. You don't have a choice but to cozy around with my sister when you are my mate. Anyway,I don't blame you. I'd never pick myself,let alone ask someone to pick me over the princess of the pack." I snickered. My life sucked and I knew that. I was the Alpha's punching bag. If the Alpha was not kicking me to take out his anger,his Luna and daughter were making my life impossible.
Sometimes I wished I could grow the balls to leave that wretched place. However,I knew I couldn't have survived outside the walls of the pack as a rogue. The Alpha knew that. Knew that no matter how badly I was treated there,I could never think of leaving. I was like a caged bird, trapped with no freedom at all.
" Go away Alex. Leave me alone and please,stay away from me."
I listened as his footsteps retreated. My heart clenched painfully but I bite my lips harshly to distract myself. Strong as I had appeared,it was nothing but a facade. How easy could it be to let go of the one thing you prayed and waited for all your life?
I could still remember the day I realised that Alex was my mate. It was my sister's eighteenth birthday. I was sixteen,the Ideal age a wolf shifted and found their mate. Since Morgan had passed two full moons without scenting her Goddess - blessed, she had to choose a fated mate.
There's also the fact that she was the pack's heir and since she was a female,she couldn’t be crowned the Alpha. That meant her mate would take over as the pack Alpha.
That night,my father announced Alex as Morgan's chosen mate and the future Alpha. It shattered me. I wanted to object and announce that Alex was my Goddess blessed, but Alex stopped me. He pleaded with me to Keep it a secret.
At first I thought he would inform the Alpha about our bond later,I didn't expect he never intended to make it public. I felt rejected but who was I to question someone in a higher rank than me?
I accepted that I was as good as rejected, that however didn't mean it didn't hurt. It hurt like a b***h.
After spending some time with my mother,I headed back to the pack house. When I stepped inside our house,I sensed a suffocating aura. The kind that screamed trouble for me. My suspicions were confirmed when I saw everyone seated by the dining table. The Alpha growled at my sight and his Luna glared at me.
" How dare you, b***h!" Morgan roared. "How dare you try to seduce my mate!" The sentence ended with a smack across my face. My cheeks stung and my tears pricked my eyes.
" Do you think if you throw your ugly body to my mate he will bed you! Do you want to sabotage my relationship so badly!" Accusation after accusation, Morgan threw at me.
I didn't get time to gather my thoughts nor offer a reply when she kicked me, sending me kneeling to the floor.
“ I warned you to stay away from my man! Are you trying to challenge me?” Morgan continued.
“ What do you expect from the daughter of a w***e!” My stepmother sneered and my anger flew through me in spasms.
“ Don't you take my mother's name in your filthy mouth!” I snarled at her. I didn't even know where I got the guts. What I did know was that I would l be punished for that grave mistake.
“ What did you just say?” Michelle growled angrily and I braced myself to face her wrath.
“ Okay, that's enough!” The Alpha who hadn't uttered a word since I arrived finally said. Michelle looked at the Alpha disapprovingly but still proceeded to say nothing.
“ Raven,did you try to seduce your sister's mate?” My father asked. His Voice was calm but I didn't let that fool me. I knew it was the calm before the storm.
“ Of course not.” I disagreed almost immediately. What was the use of seducing someone who wasn't even interested in me despite being my mate. No one knew that part although I felt like my father already suspected something.
The Alpha nodded before turning to Alex.
“ Are you sure Raven was seducing you and asking you to betray me and run away?” He asked. My heart skipped a beat from how the question was phrased. Is that what the scumbag told everyone?
I waited with bated breath for his answer. Alex spared me a fleeting glance before turning to face the Alpha.
“ Yes, that's what she did. I am sure of it.”
My blood froze and disbelief washed through me. I opened my mouth to protest,to call out Alex for lying on my face but nothing came out.
“ Very well. The punishment for lying to the Alpha is being locked up in the dungeons.” The Alpha announced and fear crippled me.Any sane person would have avoided the dungeons at all cost.
Morgan looked at me smugly and Michelle, she had a disgusted look on her face.
“ After a week. You will choose a mate and leave this pack. Forever.”
