She hit the nail on the head, completely unapologetic, as if she hadn’t just slapped me with her truth. My lip quivered as I bit it, her words dragging me back from the daydream I hadn’t realized that I had slipped into.
Goddess, I had drifted far. Far enough to forget that Salt was still in the room, still watching me with her unblinking violet eyes.
But something sparked inside me. A reckless little flame. I turned toward her and forced a smile. I didn’t know whether it looked genuine, but I hoped it did. Anything was better than looking weak.
"C-Can I ask you for a favor?" My voice cracked. Great, now I was visibly shaking too.
