Chaos To Rise

“You are not in love with this guy. You are just infatuated by the fact that he is the new guy in the block”. I said as I stared at my best friend while she sat down on my bed. Vanessa was not just a girl. She was the IT girl, the girl that once a guy laid his eyes on her, he was bound to fall for her charms. They just could not help but fall in love with her. As I stared at her I could not help but admire how beautiful she was. She had the most beautiful caramel skin tone ; she had the body of a model, and her eyes were so blue that every time she stared at me, I could not help but admiring how gorgeous they were. If I did not like guys, I would be doomed by now. I could not help but laugh at my own thoughts in my head. “Lily, I know its hard for you to believe, but trust me this time because I am telling you the truth. My feelings this time are genuine, and I really like this person. I can feel it in the depths of my heart that he is the one.” Vanessa said to me while I stared back at her. There are many reasons why I find myself not believing in my best friend. One of them is that she is always in love. Second, she always says the same thing to every single guy that she happens to like. Thirdly, there is the fact that after dating the guy for almost two weeks, she always breaks up with them just because she was no longer feeling them. Somehow, the crazy love that she had in the beginning for them, disappears in tin air within two weeks of dating those poor souls. I am always shocked at how she falls out of love so quickly. I mean, excuse me, how can someone who claims that they are madly in love with some fall out of love so quickly? So, shoot me for not believing her words right now. “Lily, listen, you know very well that he is not the one. And do you know how I know this? It is because you say the same thing to every single guy that you meet. Last week, you were in love with Fernando. Now are you in love with this new guy? Seriously, Vanessa, you must cut me some slack this time. I am honestly tired of you using me every time you decide to dump these guys.” I told her as I made my way to the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. Every time Vanessa decided that she was no longer in love with a guy, she would ask me to break up with them on her behalf. I literally had EXs hating on me while I never dated them. And in two weeks’ time, one more would join that equation. She then proceeded to follow me into the kitchen, and said “Listen, I am sorry about the other times but Lily, I mean this time. This guy is different from the other guys I have dated so far. He is the one”. I took a huge breath and said to her: “Friend, you only met this guy three days ago. How can you be sure about that?” I asked her while staring deep into her eyes. And she does something I never saw her doing before. She looked down and she said “I really like this guy. I know it is hard for you to believe me and I do not blame you”. As she finished her last sentence, I could see the sadness in her sinking in. The last time I felt such an atmosphere coming from Vanessa was when she lost her mom. Instantly, I felt the urge to protect her. I promised myself that I would do anything to make sure she was always happy. And if that includes me entertaining her silly crushes, alright then so be it. I found myself reaching up to her for a tight hug and then I said “Okay bestie, I believe you, my friend. So, tell me who this is the new Casanova?” She looked at me with excitement in her eyes and replied to me with a huge smile on her face: "Well, he is living upstairs, on top of your flat. Can you believe it? And he is so handsome, Lily. You should meet him. You probably might fall in love with him too” she said jokingly, and I laughed along. There is no way that would happen. Vanessa and I had different tastes when it came to guys and I was already in love with someone else. His name was Adriano. But this was a story for another day. “Lily, I have to go home now before my dad gets home first. You know how he is about me staying out late, even if it's my next-door neighbour". Vanessa rolled her eyes and picked her school bag from the chair and made her way out of the door, and I was left smiling alone and thinking about how much I adored that girl, even with her drama.
