Chapter 1: The Rejection
The full moon hung high in the night sky, bathing the Silver Moon Pack territory in silvery light. Tonight was the annual Mate Bonding Ceremony — the night every young werewolf dreamed of finding their fated mate.
I stood among the crowd, my heart pounding like a drum. My name is Elara Thompson, and today was my 18th birthday. The day I could finally sense my mate.
I smoothed my simple white dress, feeling out of place among the elegantly dressed she-wolves. I wasn’t like them. No fancy family, no powerful bloodline. Just an orphan raised by the pack, known for being quiet… and weak. I couldn’t even shift properly until last year.
But none of that mattered tonight. Tonight, fate would choose someone for me.
The Alpha’s son, Jax Rivera, stepped onto the stage. He was breathtaking — tall, muscular, with dark hair and piercing blue eyes that made every girl swoon. He was the future Alpha, strong, charismatic, and already running half the pack’s business empire. Rumors said his family was worth billions in the human world.
As he scanned the crowd, his eyes locked on mine. My breath caught. A warm tingling spread through my body, and his scent — pine and musk — filled my senses.
Mate.
He was my mate.
Joy exploded in my chest. I took a step forward, smiling through tears.
But then his expression changed. His handsome face twisted in disgust.
He marched down the stage, the crowd parting for him. He stopped right in front of me.
“Elara?” he said loudly, his voice dripping with disdain.
I nodded, unable to speak.
He laughed — a cold, cruel laugh that silenced the entire gathering.
“You?” he sneered. “The Moon Goddess must be joking. I, Jax Rivera, future Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, reject you, Elara Thompson, as my mate and Luna.”
Gasps echoed around us. My world shattered.
Pain ripped through my chest like a knife — the pain of the mate bond breaking.
“Why?” I whispered, tears streaming down my face.
“Because you’re weak,” he spat. “You have no wolf strength, no status, no money. I need a Luna who can stand by my side, not some pathetic orphan who can barely shift. I deserve better.”
The crowd murmured in agreement. Some girls snickered.
I felt my heart die in that moment.
“I accept your rejection,” I said, my voice surprisingly steady despite the agony.
Jax looked shocked for a split second, then smirked. “Good. Now get out of my sight.”
I turned and ran. Ran through the forest, tears blinding me, until I collapsed by the river.
That night, I made a vow under the full moon.
I would leave this pack. I would become strong. And one day… I would make him regret ever rejecting me.
Little did I know, fate had bigger plans. Years later, the most powerful Alpha King in the world would come looking for his lost Luna… and he would stop at nothing to claim what was his.
