Chapter Four

1037 Words
LINDA'S POV "I went too far," I cried. "I shouldn't have hired a stranger to be my date," I cried even more, pacing my room with one palm on my forehead and the other on my waist. Like a damsel in distress, I prayed for my prince charming to be fine and come save me from the sober state I was in. I looked at my phone, expecting a call from Tessa. I had called him numerous times earlier. As soon as he left the party, the crowd began judging me with their glares, and all manner of patronizing stares went in my direction. I had ruined the party, a party he told me not to ruin. I ruined it. "Oh, what's wrong with me?" I said to myself. I couldn't bear the judgment and side talks. I had to flee. That night I felt nothing but resentment for Tessa. I buzzed his number a million times, hoping he'd pick and I'd swear at him, but now the hate I felt had been watered down like a mist of guilt filled my apartment, I was so glad today was not a working day, how incompetent I would have been if it were. I looked at my phone and saw no returned call from Tessa. Knowing who he was, I prayed he didn't hate me for it, I could live with everyone despising me but Tessa's dislike would be the end of me. "Please pick up!" I yelled at my phone. Poor object feeling the heat of my frustration, I tossed it to the bed and fell flat on the ground. "I'm sorry Tessa," I cried, hopefully, a psychic connection existed between the both of us and he would hear me apologizing, sincerely apologizing for the pain I caused him. Not just for that night but every other time I made him beg for love. Every time I made him feel less of himself, I apologized for it. But what good was an apology if it wasn't heard? If it only existed in the corners of your heart and never left the lips of the one who apologized. I decided to go to Tessa, I went to the bathroom and ran a hot tub bath, soaking myself in milk and exfoliating all the tension I had on my face. Finally, I got dressed, I had plain white trousers on and a purple cropped top with a white blazer to match, really fashion never bothered me. He was always okay with whatever I had on but this time I felt insecure about my outfit, I had to change. I tried out different outfits till I finally settled for a blue flare gown with black Natasha suede leather heels. "Perfect." that's all I could see when I looked in the mirror. I grabbed my car keys from downstairs and left to see him. The drive to his place was a quick one, I wished it was farther than it was so I could have the time to garner momentum. In no time, I arrived at his estate and drove in, waiting for the security to conduct a proper search before I could get through the main gate to his Mansion. Tessa's house always stood in its glory, the driveway was spacious and the beautiful fountain sited at the center of his yard was really beautiful. I thought back to the time when we both stood in front of the fountain, kissing and promising ourselves undying love and companionship. "I'll throw this coin in and wish for one thing I'll cherish the most," Tessa spoke. "Really what is it?" I asked. "Well if I tell you my wish, it may not come through." "I'm sure you don't believe in such superstition," l said and laughed. He threw in the coin and once it hit the water, he lifted me in the air and twirled me around. Whatever he wished for that night, he never told me but he was really happy he made the wish. Memories like this brought tears to my eyes, I took a little piece of cloth and dabbed my eyes with it so my make-up wouldn't be ruined. I found a good spot to park my car in, I had gotten a bouquet and an apology letter stuffed in it, and I got out of the car and walked to his door. I pushed the doorbell and waited for a response, I pressed it again just to be sure it wasn't booked because it took a lot of time and no one was answering. Just as I was about to press it again, the door opened and it was her who greeted me. "Hello?" the imposter said. I had lost words to speak, I stood there completely numb and shattered. My whole world crashed the moment I saw her, seeing her in his house wearing lingerie is something I couldn't wrap my head around. Immediately, I dropped the flowers on the ground and grabbed her by the hair, pulling her away from his house to the outside, and landing brisk slaps on her cheeks, cursing her. "Uhm, hi?" She snapped me back to reality. Of course, it only happened in my head. "Give this to Tessa, I'll be on my way now." I handed the gifts to her and rashly walked to my car. I felt so defeated, I once had Tessa at the tip of my finger and I let him slip. "Oh, my heart!" I cried when I got in the car, good thing it was a tinted glass and my expression could not be seen from the outside. I drove off, away from him and his mistress. I wished them nothing but pain and suffering, part of me hated myself for what happened between Tessa and me, and another part of me just wanted to disappear. I hoped I listened to the right voice. While driving out of his house, I caught a glimpse of a car driving in through the alley. I cared less about the car, all I felt was hate for Tessa and an undying desire for revenge. "You will pay dearly for this, Tessa." I clenched onto my steering wheel.
