I stand frozen, staring at the spot where Octavia disappeared into the trees, her silver white wolf swallowed by the forest’s shadows. My chest feels like it is caving in, hollow and aching all at once.

The word hammers in my head, heavy and bitter. I should have kept my mouth shut. What the hell was I thinking?
