SUSPICIONS

CELIA Everyone was worried; I was the only one with a calm expression. Gamma questioned everyone about the painting, but no one uttered a word. He lost his temper and groaned angrily. The burning of the painting was like an attack on Alpha's pride. Alpha Killian was quiet, but his eyes observed my stern face every five minutes. I thought he would accuse me in front of everyone, but to my surprise, he did nothing more than observe my face. That strange silence between us was an invitation to a huge storm. “A-Are we going to cancel the precious oath ceremony?” The head maid stepped forward and asked Gamma in her timid voice. She was the same maid who saved me that evening from an embarrassing moment in Alpha's room when he ordered me to undress. Suzie Matthews. Gamma glared at her. “Oath day will happen.” He announced. My heart shrunk to the bottom. Everyone’s attention indeed shifted to the burned painting from the search for wolfless, but that didn't affect the oath ceremony. “How will we conduct the oath ceremony without the auspicious painting?” Suzie murmured. Gamma couldn't answer her question, but whispers filled the main hall. Every mouth was asking the same question. “We don't need the painting!” Alpha Killian finally broke his silence. “Without the painting…” Suzie mumbled. “It was my father who started this oath ceremony with a painting. He believed the painter's family was divine and an oath of blood mixed with the divine colors of the painting would create a strong foundation.” “I don't believe it.” His bold confession startled the crowd. “What are you saying, Alpha?” Gamma questioned his judgment. A tight smile glinted on his lips. “Earlier, you were supposed to print your blood on that painting, but now you will print your blood on my palm.” “Tomorrow morning, we’re going to shake hands, mixing our blood for a better foundation.” His deep voice made it official. “Aren't I better than a painting?” His brow twitched. Gamma sighed and nodded his head, exempted from every other choice. No matter how powerful he was, his worth was nothing compared to Alpha. I pulled a trick to throw away the oath ceremony by burning his painting, yet he changed the rules for the ceremony. He defeated my game! Tomorrow morning might be my last. I have to come up with something before Killian discovers my secret. “Investigate if it was really an accident…or someone did it on purpose?” Gamma commanded the guards. “Go back to your rooms!” His robust and commanding voice shifted to us. Everyone headed back to their respective rooms, even the maids. “See you later.” Dania whispered into my ear and hurried back to her place in the opposite direction from my room. As an attendant, I was the last one standing. Gamma looked into my eyes. “Did you notice anything unusual?” He inquired. “No!” My lips lied. Killian narrowed his eyes. “I need a moment alone with my attendant.” Having said that, he walked over to me and grabbed my wrist. My eyes widened. “Shall we go to my room?” He whispered devilishly. I gulped and nodded my head hesitantly. He glanced at Gamma briefly and dragged me to his bedroom upstairs. The moment my feet stepped into his room, an eerie feeling shrouded my soul. It was fear that one feels before death. He freed my wrist from his grip and walked over to his king-size bed. “D-Do you need my assistance with something?” I inquired. “Hmm…of course!” He said and perched on the bed. His masculine hands rested on either side of the bed, a little behind his waist. “Clean my closet.” “Let me inform a maid.” “No, you clean my closet.” He behested. I was taken aback by his request; it indicated an evil plot. Asking me to do a maid's job was suspicious in so many ways. “What are you waiting for?” His eyes darkened. A breath slipped free of my lips, and my feet slowly approached the dark closet on the left side of the bed. I opened the closet and extended my hand to his clothes. The entire room had an addictive scent to it except the closet. My hands pulled out all the shirts from the closest, planning to give them for laundry. Suddenly, fresh blood stains caught my attention. Each one of his shirts was covered in blood. I got terrified and unintentionally flung his shirts against the wall. A drop of sweat rolled down my forehead, and my throat went dry. He did this on purpose to scare me, and it worked. A strong force pinned me against the closest in the blink of an eye. “Ouch!” I muffled. Killian was standing before me, and his eyes filled with fury were blazing through my soul. The corner of his mouth curled, and he pointed a dagger at the center of my chest. “How dare you throw my clothes?” His lips gritted his words. Only a psychopath can decorate his closet with his shirts covered in blood, and I was one hundred percent sure the blood stains on his shirts were not his. How many lives has he taken? Were they wolfless? “Answer me, Rose!” He growled. “There was blood…” “Did you think an attendant job would be a piece of cake?” His words interrupted mine. Killian Salvatore was testing my patience. “I am sorry, Alpha.” My soft tone apologized. “From now on, you will do all my work.” “Understand?” “Yes, Alpha.” My fingers tightly clenched either side of my dress. He pressed the dagger's sharp tip into my chest using light strength. It didn't even hurt but it was just one of his ways to threaten me. I was shaken but not terrified anymore. “The one who burned my painting must be very jealous of my looks, right?” His words were scheming again. “Ahm…maybe!” My heart was thumping faster than ever. “I must say whoever did it has no fear for their life.” He said sarcastically. His face slowly moved closer to mine. “The culprit will soon come under my radar, and I'm not exactly forgiving.” He said in an undertone. Those dreadful words were for my ears. As expected, Killian was suspicious of me. “I am sure you will catch the culprit.” My lips played along. He chuckled frustratingly and pulled away the dagger from my chest. His feet took a few steps back, and he fastened that dagger behind his waist. I was only observing his movements, frozen against the closet from his threat. My eyes noticed him grabbing a key from underneath his pillow. “Are you going somewhere?” He looked at me with a stern expression. “There’s someone inside the prison room that I need to interrogate.” His calm tone answered. Hayes could be in there! The prison room was the only place in the pack house where Hayes could be. My mind was suspicious of that room from the beginning. “Allow me to accompany you, Alpha.” “No woman in the pack house is interested in that scary place. Why do you want to accompany me?” My feet stepped forward. “I am not any woman; I am your attendant.” He walked over to me, and his wicked gaze fell upon my face. “Don't blame me later if you forget to speak or end up dead.” “Don't worry about it.” My lips replied. “Do as you wish.” He agreed and took steps towards the door. My feet quietly followed behind. I am coming for you, Hayes.
