"Run Nelly ..... RUN!!!!" The girl ran as fast as she could with her eyes closed. Everything was falling apart, buildings going down like houses of cards corpses lying everywhere she dared to look. She continued to run till she found a dumpster, and she quickly took shelter behind it. "Daaaad ... Dad, where are you?!" She looked back trying to find her dad but all she could see was death and destruction of what once was a beautiful neighborhood. Her vision started to blur as tears gathered in her eyes "Please God, please save my dad" She flinched as she heard running footsteps behind her, and suddenly she was carried from her waist by someone. She started to panic and tried to free herself from that person's grip. "I TOLD YOU TO RUN WHAT ARE YOU STILL DOING HIDING BEHIND THIS DUMPSTER YOU COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED" Her tears were set free and her heart started to calm down as she heard her father's voice "I ... I couldn't leave you dad" It's ok sweetheart but don't do it again, you have to survive even if you had to do it on your own I can't lose you too. She knew her dad meant losing her like he lost her mom upon remembering her face she closed her eyes and felt a sting in her heart. They ran till they found an abandoned building that was not affected by the destruction. "We will hide here till morning go to sleep sweetie daddy will keep you safe" The girl laid down on the cold floor trying to find a comfortable position so she can sleep for a little bit and try to forget all the horrors her eyes witnessed for the past couple of hours only yesterday she was shopping with her best friends for their prom dresses. Now she didn't even know if they were dead or alive. "Good night my Angel" "Good Night Daddy" He patted my hair and kissed my forehead as I began to drift to dream world Nelly POV I woke up startled felt like my heart is trying to jump out of my chest. I quickly pulled my gun and made sure that my knife is still strapped around my thigh. I let out the breath I have been holding and put the gun down, it's been 5 years and every other night I have the same dream, me and my father running for our lives trying to find shelter after our world was destroyed. I feel the tears try to push their way out but I refuse to cry I will not be weak I will not cry, I keep repeating to myself I will survive, I'm a survivor It's been five years of hell trying to survive this dying world that wants to take everyone with it, one morning we woke up to the news that an earthquake hit a state in our country and people shouldn't be worried as everything was ok but a month later we found out nothing was ok.. It wasn't an earthquake it was an explosion in an underground military facility that was working on a research to create super soldiers, funny they wanted super humans to win wars and keep the country safe but the same soldiers were the destruction of us, they destroyed the labs and managed to run away the military tried to contain them and caused more damage than good. A war broke out between the super soldiers and the army the military didn't know the limit to their strength aside from their super human strength it's said that they had telepathic powers one of them can kill a group of people only thinking about it a group of them together can work together and level a city. A lot of people died in this war the super soldiers or as people now call them "Metas". The Metas took down the military by targeting the leaders and generals then they took down the whole government the war was vicious many lives were lost chaos broke out since there was no police crime rate was sky high no one was safe. The Metas run the country now no one knows how many they are we only know their leaders and as rumor has it the rest of them operate as a unit in the new military, some ordinary humans chose to join them rebuilding our country as this our new reality and nothing can change it, there's still some rebellious groups who try to fight the Metas but till no one was successful to even scratch one of them let alone kill! I work as a waitress in a rundown bar, I live in a tiny apartment with my companion, protector and best friend "Jack". I know what you're thinking, Jack and I are not together. In fact, he's not human. He's my German Shepherd I saved him when he was just a pup two years ago. Jack sensed my stress and came put his big head on my lap and started whining. "Hey buddy, I'm alright it was just a dream" I scratch his head and he jumps on the bed and starts licking my face I laugh and try to push him, but he's strong. We play for a while till I get out of bed and start getting ready to get to work. "Jack, let's go buddy I don't want to be late we need every penny if we still want to buy that car. Come on buddy." Yeah, I took Jack with me to work this big boy saved me from grabby hands and drunk bast*rds more times than I can count. Luckily, my boss is a good man, and he didn't mind me bringing Jack, since he's well-trained and doesn't cause any problems in the bar.
