Chapter 20

Nelly POV

It's been a few days since I've seen Dan at the bar. After him and Lilly went outside to talk she never came back in, so today I got up early and decided to visit her at the dinner before going to work. I need to understand what happed, what they talked about and how did they know each other.

I arrived at the dinner with Jack and sat at my usual table. As soon as Lilly saw me she looked shocked and hesitated a little before coming to me "Something is wrong and I won't leave tell I get answers". I don't know why I'm acting to possessive over this "Am I jealous?!". I shake the thought out of my head. No, I just want to make sure that my friend is safe.

Lilly:"Hey, What a nice surprise. It's unusual for you to come by when it's not the first of the month"

Nelly:"What I can't come to see you on any other day?"

Lilly:"Of Course not. I'm happy to see my best friend on any day. What can I get you?"

Nelly:"I'm not hungry, I'll take a coffee and a cold sandwich for Garry"

Lilly:"Coming right up"

Nelly:"I also what to talk to you"

She looked very nervous and was fiddling with her not pad and pen.

Lilly:"Yeah sure, I'll get you your order and come back in a minute"

After Lilly left I kept my eyes on her and she seemed unfocused and nervous which made my suspicions increase and I felt so angry at her like she betrayed me. Ever since I met Dan I have not been in control of my emotions and it's driving me crazy. Right now I want to leave and never ask Lilly about anything but something inside me is forcing me to stay and ask her if there's something between her and Dan. I wanted to tell her to stay away from him. He's mine.

Lilly came back with my order and took a seat in front of me. I was glaring at her and felt like snatching her hair.

Lilly:"OK, Why are you giving me murderous looks?"

She laughed nervously and I shook my head and gave her a weak smile.

Nelly:"Sorry, I just feel like you're hiding something from me. Few days ago you came at the bar then when outside to talk to Dan and never came back"

Lilly:"Oh, sorry I left in a hurry I had to take care of something"

Nelly:"How do you know Dan?"

Lilly:"Better question is, how do you know Dan? and why are you giving me jealous girlfriend vibes?"

Nelly:"W..what? I'm not his girlfriend!! I'm just worried about you. He was with those thugs"

Lilly:"Don't worry about me. Remember the gathering I held on that day, the one you couldn't attend"

Nelly:"Yeah, the anti-resistance one I remember"

Lilly:"The resistance showed up and they screwed it up. Dan was one of them. I gave him a piece of my mind and left because I was so angry"

Nelly:"H..he works with the resistance?!"

Lilly fiddled with her fingers and avoided looking at me. Something she does when she's about to lie or hide something.

I saw Dan with those guys I knew they were not good people but, I never thought they were the resistance.

Lilly:"Yeah, you better stay away from him. Those are a bunch of criminals, I don't want to see you get hurt. You didn't answer me how do you know him?"

Nelly:"He worked as a bouncer at the bar on the first of the month. I met him when I went to pick Garry up"

Lilly:"Oh, Well looks like you guys are going to try and find a new bouncer, cause he's working with the resistance now"

A part of me was happy that there was nothing between Lilly and Dan but, another part was yelling at me for being so stupid. He's a criminal, confirming that broke my heart. Losing hope that there might have been something between us made me so sad.

I stayed at chatted with Lilly for a bit. She did most of the talking while I have been lost in my head. Later I said goodbye to her and made my way to the bar.

When I got closer to the bar I saw a guy with a hood covering his head and half his face, he looked suspicious. I called Jack to alert him. Jack felt my nervousness and started growling at the guy but kept sticking to me. I held the taser tightly in my sweatshirt pocket and kept my eyes on the guy. When I got close to him he lifted the hood off his head.

Nelly:"What are you doing here?"

Dan lifted u his hands in surrender sign and gave me a half smile and looked at Jack. Surprisingly Jack stopped growling and just sat down and started wagging his tail.

Nelly:"What the hell?! How did you do that?!"

Dan:"I think he likes me"

I glared at him then turned to Jack "Traitor". Jack whined and put his head on his paws.

Nelly:"OK, What do you want?!"

Dan:"Can we talk somewhere?!"

Nelly:"I have work. I'll be late"

Dan:"OK, We don't have to go anywhere we can talk here, I promise I won't keep you for long"

Nelly:"Fine, What do you want to talk about?"

He looked nervous and ran his fingers through his hair a couple of time. I tried to ignore the urge to push his hand away and do it myself. I wanted to run my fingers through his hair down to his short beard and kissable lips "What the hell! Wake up Nelly". I scolded myself and glared at him.

Dan:"Sorry, I'm not good at this. First of all I wanted to apologize for what happed the other night and secondly I wanted to ask you if you'd like to go out with me... On a date I guess"

I was shocked and stared at him with wide eyes. My first instinct was to shout YES, Bt then I remembered my conversation with Lilly "He works with the resistance!".

Nelly:"I..I can't go out with you"

He looked sad maybe heartbroken and started pacing back and forth for a bit.

Dan:"Can I ask why?"

Nelly:"Lilly told me you work with the resistance"

He cursed under his breath and ran his fingers through his hair again and resumed pacing back and forth which started scaring me a little but I also wanted to run to him and hug him. so he wouldn't be so worried.

Dan:"OK, I am working with the resistance but we are protecting the people from those freaks"

I scoffed at him.

Nelly:"Really?! Have you ever seen one? You are making the Metas an excuse to steal from people and terrorize them. You are criminals"

Dan:"So, like your friend you have no problems with the Metas running the show and dictating our lives"

Nelly:"Like us the Metas suffered. As long as they are just I have no problems with them. I have problems with you stealing out money and calling it protection money. I have problems with you giving guns to thieves and criminals so they could run around robbing people and killing them"

I haven't noticed that in my anger I walked so close to him and was poking his chest while yelling in his face. He held my hand and looked so deep in my eyes then down to my lips like when we were in the restroom. He was smiling "Is he crazy?! I'm calling him a criminal and he's smiling! Looks like I'm not the only crazy one"

Dan:"What if I left them?!"

Nelly:"W..what?"

He pulled me even closer to him and I could smell his amazing scent and feel his warm breath on my face.

Dan:"What if I left the resistance. Would you give me a chance?"

Nelly:"Yes"

I answered before I could think. He smiled widely, nodded and let my hand go.

Dan:"There's something I need to do first. After I'm done, I'm coming back for you, and you'd better be ready cause I'm gonna chase you till the ends of the earth"

I gasp at his words "These are the same words he said in my dream".

Nelly:"W..what thing?"

Dan:"I'll tell you everything when it's done"

He then leaned to me and kissed me on my cheek and left. I stared at his disappearing figure and put my hand where he kissed me. I could still remember the feeling of his lips against my skin and I wanted to feel them all over my body, not just my cheek.
