Was it the lack of sleep, the early shimmer of the dark morning, or the entire six-pack he drank the night before? Regardless of what had caused it, the sound of something stalking him made Trevor Greene wish he had taken his brother-in-law up on his offer to join him on the short weekend hunting trip.
He had awakened before daylight to hike the ridge and find a place to settle in under the cloak of darkness. There, he planned to wait for deer as they plodded along the thin trail they perpetually followed across the backside of Kinport peak.
