Penelope POV Pain greets me before consciousness does. It's a dull throbbing ache in my chest that sharpens when I try to take a deep breath. My entire body feels heavy, like I'm being pressed down with a heavy weight. My mouth is dry and there's a medicinal taste on my tongue. I force my eyes open slowly, blinking against the soft light filtering through curtains. White ceiling and clean walls. The scent of antiseptic mixed with herbs. The pack clinic. Then memories flood my mind.I took a sword to the chest. The memory comes rushing back; the battlefield, Graham's suspicion and Aaron's expression when his blade pierced my skin.
