Miracle 1994

■ Third POV ■ Yang Chae Yeon, is a famous photographer/journalist at Yong Sei University. She is famous for her photography and for her eye-catching photo galleries. She is also a dean's lister in her course, Mass Communication. While on the other hand, there is a very clumsy and introverted boy, Park Joong Ki, who admires her very much. Joong Ki is known as a son of Park Han Gyul of HH Law Firm. He was respected only when he was with his father, but if not, he was always bullied around school, every time, everywhere he go. Han Gyul only knew that his son was taking Law but he didn't know that he had shifted to Music, Major in Bassoon. Joong Ki wants to be an orchestra member or famous musician someday and, for him, his passion is better than his father's desire for him to become a lawyer. Joong Ki was ordering his food in a canteen, when Yong Il, the leader of Yong Sei's famous fraternity, bullied him by spilling food on his clothes. Known as a nerdy, clumsy and very afraid cat, Joong Ki went to the soccer field and he just cried and cried, thinking about why there were students doing that to him. And then, he realized that there was a lady in front of him asking what was wrong and he lifted up his face and he saw Chae Yeon. She is wearing a sports shirt and shorts and holding a soccer ball. She was the only student playing on the soccer field at that time. This is the first encounter of the two and Chae Yeon compliments the nerdy Joong Ki that he was so cute when he was wearing square-shaped eyeglasses. Joong Ki's face became reddish and he tried to remove his eyeglasses, and he asked Chae Yeon. ''Am I still cute?'' Chae Yeon laughed loudly and Joong Ki put back his eyeglasses because of shyness. ''No... You're not cute,'' Chae Yeon said. ''Yes, I am. I am not good-looking at all,'' Joong Ki replied. Chae Yeon went to the field again with a wide smile and said.. ''If you remove your eyeglasses and bangs, you will be the most handsome for me,'' Chae Yeon said. Joong Ki can't remove his eyes on Chae Yeon's smile, realizing that he's still the prettiest and most awesome girl in their school. His cheeks became rosy after that. During the class hours, Joong Ki couldn't focus on his professor's discussions. Instead, he drew Chae Yeon's eyes and her smiling lips. He imagined Chae Yeon as his girlfriend and suddenly his professor called him... ''Hmm. It seems that you're thinking so deeply about our lessons than I expected'', the professor said sarcastically. ''Uh?'' then Joong Ki's classmates laughed. ''Do you understand our lesson, dear Ki Joon,'' the professor pronounced his name mistakenly. ''Joong Ki,'' Joong Ki replied while his head was bowed at that time. ''Oh? Joong Ki?'' the professor seemed so confused and the bell rang. Joong Ki picked up his bag and his professor called him suddenly. ''Look sorry for mispronouncing.'' ''That’s okay, professor. I’m used to it.'' ''No... it is not... but---’’ ''Sorry professor, I need to go home now because I will be scolded by my father.'' ''Oh... that quirky Professor Han Gyul? Okay, go home.'' After class, Joong Ki quickly went home happily and looked for the calendar. He marked the date, and looked for his unused notebook, started to write something happily. ** May 16, 1994 I think this is the best day.... for this month. Because of her, I can smile at this time instead of crying because of what Yong Il had done to me. Because of her, I can feel real freedom. Because of her, I can't feel the emptiness. Because of her, I had a good day. Because of her, I boosted my confidence for the first time. Because of her, I am what I am now. ** Before he went to his comfy bed, he smiled widely in front of the mirror that he was the only one could see. And he said to himself that he really wanted Chae Yeon to be the first person to see his smile. He saw that the skies were so bright at that time. He went to his bedroom window and saw the brilliant stars shining brightly in the sky. He saw the time on his watch... 11:11 pm... ''I hope that this will happen every day... because when I started to meet her, my whole day was like a miracle.'' Joong Ki said. He's hoping that he can see her for the next following days. For Joong Ki, the stars in the sky symbolize Chae Yeon, and... Chae Yeon is a miracle... For Joong Ki, that will be part of his memories. Maybe an unforgettable moment of his life..
