Rage
Kai let out a shriek as dirt clods erupted at their feet. At the same time, Toby heard another gunshot, and he reacted instinctively. Sweeping his trunk around, he pushed Kai aside, maybe too hard. She stumbled and fell, but he didn’t have time to help her to her feet, or to apologize.
Whirling around, he took off toward the direction where the sound had originated. He had no idea where the other bullet had gone, but he couldn’t worry about that. His whole focus was on finding out who’d fired the gun, and to stop the fuckers before someone got killed.
