Peeved
Toby and the others waited for the sheriff’s deputies to arrive and take the three young men into custody before heading back to the circus grounds. Common sense told him to remain in his elephant form until he reached the main tent where he’d left his clothes.
As they walked through the dirt field, he began to feel the sting of where the bullet had made its mark along his side. Glancing behind him, he tentatively tried to touch the wound to see if it was bleeding, but it was in a location he couldn’t reach. Sighing, he continued lumbering beside Darius as the other members of his adopted extended family followed.
