Possibilities
“Father, what are we going to do?”
Ashan reached over to grasp her hand again. A single lantern remained lit to provide them light. They were alone under the open mess test. Everyone else had gone to their trailers for the night.
“From what I can see, we have three options.”
She turned her head to look at him. “Three?”
“We could look for work at another circus.”
“What other circus? We were—”
“Shh.” He cut her off before she could continue. “Or we could travel until we find a town we think we could settle in. Learn a new trade. Have the kind of life you’ve been wanting. Or we could take our act on the road ourselves. It’ll be hard, but I think it’s doable.”
Sighing, Kai released her father’s hand, got to her feet, and began walking toward Aimee’s trailer. T
