Visit
Toby was awakened the next morning when the day shift came in to re-dress his wounds and take his vitals. He was still woozy from the drugs being pumped into his system, and barely made out what the doctor had to tell him during the man’s visit.
“How are you feeling?” The physician leaned over the railing to peer under the bandages.
“Any day above ground is a good day,” Toby quipped. At the moment he didn’t care if he made sense or not. His leg was numb to the point where he had no awareness of it. Only his waist gave him fits every time he tried to shift his body into a more comfortable position.
