Meeting at the Wharf Restaurant
“Grotesque!”shrieked Sarina as a minute white worm wriggled out of her leafy Baby Kailan on
her plate laden with Sambal Prawns and steaming white rice. What a start to the evening she
thought as she zoomed in on the calm dark waters from her corner table at a Malay Stall on
the old wharf at Kota Kinabalu. Her friends, Reg and Penny were due to arrive at any
moment. She was just about to raise her hand to beckon a waiter when out the corner of her
eye she caught a glimpse of a huge rodent scurrying across the creaky old wharf. At two
metres in length excluding the tail, it was a grey brown rat prowling for tidbits. “What
next?” she pondered. This was a shock for the small framed woman in her early thirties. Her
deep blue eyes were rather piercing as she gave a steely gaze to the floor of the wharf.
Twirling her long blonde hair in her fingers she was suddenly lost in thought. Dressed casually
with a short tight red miniskirt and loose spaghetti laced green top that covered her midriff and
upper torso amply she did not notice someone gazing at her from across the wharf. The
onlooker, distinguishable by a chiselled chin and elephant like ears had taken in the elfin
face, pixie ears and slim waistline. Plus, she was alone. So, the over 6 foot broad shouldered
red haired lad loped over to her table. “May I take a seat?” enquired the smiling young man.
