4 The first thing I felt was a dull ache at the back of my head. I frowned. Why was my head so sore? The memory of waking up alone on the beach trickled through my mind. The pain. The long walk. The boys finding me and dragging me into the water. Me breathing underwater. Did that really happen? My mind was muddled. And no matter how hard I tried, anything before that was still blank. I had to focus on what I could remember. They said they were taking me home before I passed out. So the fact that I was lying on my side on something soft like a bed gave me some relief. I was about to open my eyes when I heard hushed voices. A male and female. I feigned sleep and listened. Maybe I could find out more about what had happened to me. “But they said that she can’t even remember her name.” T
