While the others are working in the construction of their new shelter, Xerxes ask Flora about the place where everything that happened in the past has been kept. And learned some new things about the world.
“Our old chief used to talk about his life when they are still a part of the whole human group, he said that there were different races of humans. There were tall and short, white and brown, there were also others that has different eye colors. They used to play with all the children and that he kept it all hidden inside this box. His diary and other things that he had written during his childhood.” Flora hands Xerxes the wooden box that had been clearly taken good care of the its owner.
“So that place is the same place where humans used to live together?” Xerxes saw her confirm it by nodding her head. “That place is in the middle of the woods. It looked like it’s a fortress on the outside. I have been there in our search for a place to start our tribe and ended up here where it is more quiet and peaceful. “I’d say that place is crawling of small monsters. Almost as huge as humans.” Chief Niberia said to Xerxes to is surprised by what she said.
“You’ve been there?”
“Yes, we did not stay there for long though. The monsters there are even more desperate than the monsters here. Though we can’t really have any complaints since they are monsters to begin with but some of us actually dared to stay there and a few days later, we found them following our tracks with horrified faces. I don’t know if that place is still there so I cant assure you that your plan of going there would be a good thing. Especially when something like this is happening around the world.”
Xerxes understood behind the chief’s words and nod his head. ‘But if monsters are really migrating here, the place where they think they will able to live then that means that there are less monsters there. If this is the first time that had come, then monsters will not be able to grow immunity against the freezing temperature, a few days of sudden cold will bring them to leave their nests.’ Xerxes thinks to himself as he reads the diary of the old and recent chief.
“Are you really planning to go there even with everything I just said?” The chief ask. “Yes, I want answers for the questions in my head. There is something that’s calling for me. Calling for me get there. I don’t know why nor how but I guess the answers that I’m looking for can only be found there.” Xerxes said after reading that its only about the things that he did as a kid and describe the place in the last chief’s point of view.
Xerxes put everything back and hands it to Flora. “I have read everything. Thank you.” Flora confusingly accepted the box which now belongs to him because of their agreement but did not ask about it. “Are you able to find your answer?” Xerxes shakes his head and smiles.
“I didn’t, the diaries just speaks about the things that he experience there as a kid and how the library looks like. Looks like I will ask Chief Niberia for directions on how to get there.” Xerxes said jokingly but the elven chief does not look like she will give him the directions so easily.
“I hope you do not misunderstood my intentions Mr. Xerxes but I don’t think I can give you the directions. I for one, do not want you to die in that unforgiving lands just because of some questions that are bugging your head. I heard about it from Flugar that you have visions that allow you to develop your weapons but is it worth risking your life for?” the chief said with a worried tone.
“I have already made it clear chief Niberia, that is all that I want in exchange for my help. If you are afraid of the monsters that are lurking there then you do not need to worry. If the monsters really are migrating here then it is a good thing for us. There will be lesser monsters there and if there are still a few, that would be more manageable than facing a horde of them.”
The chief already knew that he would say that but still insist for him to stay in a safe place. “If you don’t want to tell me the directions then I guess I have to look for it ourselves without any directions from anyone.” Xerxes said with a smile on his face when he turns around to sound like he is begging the chief to make her guilty if they died in a ditch somewhere because of her stubbornness.
“Don’t give me that look, you are still too young to be trying to trick me like that. You are quite brave enough to be trying something like that.” Chief Niberia said, seeing through Xerxes’ intentions.
“Curses. She really is perceptive as Yusaf said.” Xerxes clicks his tongue and turns to the chief with a new expression written on his face. “Don’t look at me like that Chief Niberia. I was just trying my luck.” Xerxes justified but that doesn’t save him from the fact he tried to make the chief feel guilty.
“You are seriously a handful. I should have listened to Yusaf when I have the choice. I thought he was kidding because he is that kind himself in the past but to think that I should have trusted my fellow kin. What a blunder.” The chief murmured to herself and told Xerxes to let her think about it first.
Their talk ended when the elven chief leaves the room and with Flora having no idea where that place is located, Xerxes went to the place where they are constructing the new shelter for both humans and elves. ‘I did not expect the elven chief to be like that. How ate the others doing? I hope they are doing fine.’ He says to himself when he stumble upon Yusaf and the others who are smoking and cooking the meat of the monsters that are edible enough to preserve its meat. “That looks delicious. I have not tried monster meat but my mouth is watering right now.” Xerxes said when he smell the mouth watering aroma of the meat.
“If you have not eaten monster meat yet then you are missing out on so much flavors. Here try one. Grilled it myself.” Yusaf says and hands Xerxes a piece of meat of the giant monster that they took down.
Xerxes did not hesitate to eat the meat and ate it in one gulp. “Hmm, taste like chicken. This is great. I did not expect for the meat to taste like this.” Xerxes said as he lick his fingers. “It’s a wonder how salt can make the taste of the meat better. Its good for preserving things as well.” Xerxes excuse himself when he saw that Yusaf is busy and that ge did not want to disturb them while they are working so he pressed on and saw that Rupert and Ramirez are busy as well.
“Looks like I am the only one that doesn’t really have anything to do. Now I feel guilty all of the sudden.” He days to himself as he sat and wonders about the others back home.
