Elves and Humans Part III

“Now that its come to this. I will hesitate no longer. Mr. Xerxes will you sell us, some of the weapons that my brother has been talking about?” Flugar ask Xerxes out of sense of urgency. Xerxes has been anticipating that the elves might strike a deal with him for the weapons but thinks otherwise because of their pride. ‘But to think that his brother would be the one to speak. I was expecting it to be Yusaf but whatever. The place will be dangerous now than it ever has. They will surely need weapons to defend themselves.’ Xerxes thinks to himself with the native humans starting to make a deal with him as well. “Everyone please, I will try my best to think.” Xerxes said to keep them calm while he thinks of a way to help the two race. ‘What to do? Ferdrick will not be able to produce much weapons because of the urgency and the number of people that will need the weapons. The pistol is still in its trial phase, but the katanas and flintlock will be more easy and fast. No to mention the baton that he made. Lets listen to what weapon they want to have first.’ Xerxes turns to the distressed leaders and ask. “What weapons do you specifically want?  The weapon that I used is still on it’s trial phase so the option will be these three.” Xerxes ask Ramirez and Rupert to place the katana and flintlock on the table. The elf leader is the first one to answer his question with utmost certainty. “We have already made a decision. The chief also approved of it, we do not want the weapons that shoot projectiles. We will need the katanas and maybe some crossbow. It may be more useful and powerful than average bows that we use.” Xerxes turns to Yusaf and see that his friend confirms what his brother said. “Very well, then please tell me how many of those kinds you need. If its only katanas and crossbows, we can easily make it. We have already made countless katanas in the past, and they are all resting in the storage room.” Flugar then writes the number of weapons he need as Rupert hands him a book. “What about you chief. What will you need?” Xerxes asked the chief but just as he expected, the stand in chief could not decide what to get because the authority is not in her hands. Xerxes saw her glance at Flora who then nod her head. “We will take those as well. We only have fewer people here in our tribe we don’t need much. Just weapons enough to protect ourselves.” Flora says with authority. The elves and the others were surprised when she spoke. “What she’s the chief?” Yusaf says when he just realize that after she spoke out. “Its just as I suspected. I knew something was off of her identity the moment I saw.” Xerxes was surprised of Flugar’s perception of the real chief’s identity but what surprise him more is that of the native human’s reactions. “Flora, why did you expose your identity?” the old woman asked. “If we want to make ties with other races then we should start with trusting each other. I feel like I am betraying them for not telling them my identity when they have done so much for our tribe.” Flora steps in front and properly introduce herself to everyone. “Hello everyone, I am Flora and I am the chief of this tribe. I apologize for not introducing myself yesterday. Please spare my stand in for she only wants to protect me from harm.” She said and pleaded for their forgiveness. Flugar who takes her apology seriously forgives her and the others follow. “That’s fine miss chief, it does not hurt to be sure. We have met humans that tainted our views of them but we do not expect to see other tribes that is far different that the once that we met in the past.” Flugar says with a calm tone while Yusaf on the other hand is still surprised of that fact. “Hey, Xerxes. Why aren’t you surprised as I am?!” Xerxes then turns away with a bitter smile on his face. “I think he already has an idea what her identity is from the start. If he is what the person you have been telling us then he should have seen that from the beginning.” Flugar said in Xerxes stead. And the man who they were talking about finally told Yusaf the truth. “Your brother is right Yusaf, I already confronted her about that last night when I can’t rest last night, and just as she said. The old lady is just trying to protect her. You already know the reason for that. It turns out that the old man I rescued out of that place after I avenge your sister, was their chief. Though I can understand if you are angry for hiding her identity, we also need to take into account the things that they experienced because they were not able to protect their chief properly in the past.” Yusaf felt betrayed by his friend that he jumps on him and strangle Xerxes’ neck with his arm. “You prick, you should have given me a heads up. Now I look like a pure i***t with my reaction. I was trying to establish myself as a wise elf but now its ruined!” Xerxes pat his arm as he slowly starts to choke. “Yusaft- I’ll die. You’re choking me.” Flugar breaks his brother off by pinching his ears. “Behave my troublesome brother. That is on you because you are not observing everything carefully. Your centuries age doesn’t show at all. You are making the elves look bad.” Yusaf was forced to sit properly on the floor while they start the negotiations for the payment of the weapons. “What will you ask of us in exchange for the weapons? I will try my best to convince the chief with everything I can. That I promise you.” Xerxes admires Flugar’s confidence, something that he have seen Yusaf showed once and immediately shrug his remark off. There is no need to pay the weapons. Yusaf and the other elves have already paid that during our commissions. I was planning to give them a grand gift for helping us all the time even at the point where they risk their lives with us. Yusaf and the others are quite the simple minded elves that a single food we being is enough.” Xerxes turns to his friend who is surprised by the things that he speaks. “Xerxes what are you saying?” Xerxes smiles brightly. “All of my employees have been thinking of repaying you guys back but since we don’t know much what elves want. We stall the meeting for now. Knowing you, you will absolutely refuse everything that we plan to give, to tell you the truth, we hit a wall, a very tall wall. But now that an opportunity like this fall on our hands, we want to take this opportunity and repay you for the services that you guys have given us. We felt guilty for only giving you food from our world so, the payment for the weapons, don’t worry about them. It has been paid.” Flugar could not believe what he heard from a human that he has not fully trust. He turns to his brother who is already in tears. ‘This human is really- no, entirely different from the once we met in the past. Its just as Yusaf said.’ He thinks to himself and then kneels in front of Xerxes. “Please don’t stop me from doing this. I just wish to thank the human that has given us a chance to survive. I apologize, to be honest. I don’t really trust you at first but my brother insist that you are different from the humans we knew in the past. But now I am certain, you are different. And I am glad for that. Thank you for being friends and putting up with my troublesome brother’s request.” Flugar along with the elves that remain in the human settlement show their gratefulness by kneeling to Xerxes. “If that’s what you want then I guess I can allow this once but I personally think there is no need to go that far.” Xerxes says but the elves ignores him. A few moments after the elves thank him. They turn to the humans who are on the edge after not having anything to offer for the weapons. Unlike the elves, these humans have only hunter for their daily consumption. They did not dare step out too far from their settlement after what happened to their chief. Therefore, they did not find any treasure nor gems to offer as payment. Flora trembles just as her subjects are knowing that fact, Xerxes senses the distress in her complexion and realize what her concern must be. “There is no need to act like that. What I want for payment is- the whole story as to why this world fell into ruin and the reason behind it. If you don’t have the answer, I can just ask for the location of the place where the records must be kept.” Flugar and almost everyone in the room almost jolt in shock and utter surprise after hearing his only demand.
