Ordinary, just like everybody else

The elves and the native humans that were fortunate enough to witness and marvel the figure they referred to as an angel spoke everything they heard from the creature to answer Xerxes’ questions. “The angel said the same thing over and over again in my lifetime. Even when I saw no matter what the year said the same thing. Is that angel perhaps connected to you n some way? You said that you have seen visions and dreams.” Flugar says to answer Xerxes’ Further questions about the creature.                             “That is what I think as well. It feels so real as if I lived in those dreams my whole life.” Xerxes says with a blank expression while remembering the times before he died but then he realize that there is nothing that he remembers. ‘What is this? Why can’t I remember anything else than the time before I died?’ he turns to Rupert and Ramirez with a disturbed face.                             The two were surprise of the expression he wore that they also felt disturbed after they saw him. “What is it Xerxes?” Yusaf ask with a deeply concerned tone when he sense the eerie aura around him. “Yeah- I’m fine. The information that I received is just to sudden that I think I am still in shock. Hehe.” Xerxes chuckles awkwardly that anyone would not think of even believing the obvious lie that he is saying.                             “I understand. You three came a long way to get here. You should at least rest." Everyone around him is stunned with the hospitality that Yusaf showed Xerxes, something that none of them were not treated the same way by Yusaf. “Brother. Xerxes and the other two needs to rest. You can continue the talk tomorrow. There are other things that you will be talking with him and he is clearly not in the best condition to do it.” Yusaf pleads to his brother who immediately acknowledges his suggestion.                             “That’s not a bad idea. Coming in after a long journey and then joining in a long fight has never been good for any race.” His brother agreed. “Elves, some stand and watch out for enemies, change and replace the stations after four hours so that everyone can get some rest. We are staying here for the night.” The elves then moved out after having their dinner which they all enjoyed.                             “Damn you Carleon, you have been enjoying that kind of food all along and you did not even once brought some for us.” One of the elves says with a pitiful expression. Faras could not help but laugh at Carleon’s face when he is accused of something that he did not even have a say in. “Spare us, that is the only food we could eat during those times when the behemoths are in a rampage. We could not go to hunt outside even if we wanted to.” With Ysa’s remarks, the other elves let them off.                             The native human chief have already gave all of them rooms to rest, Yusaf was about to leave with Xerxes when his brother grab his shoulder and whispered to his ear. “You’ve change Yusaf. I no longer see the selfish little brother that I’ve have for centuries.” Yusaf thought that his brother is telling him that he change for the bad but when he sees his older brother smile, he thought otherwise. “Well, there are things that would change people. It wasn’t easy but I did. And maybe because of them or what happened to elder sister. He is the human that gave justice for herm death, I should honor him ass much as I honor my sister.”                             Yusaf’s words made Flugar become even more proud of his brother and then let go of his shoulder. “Now go rest, you will be the second batch for the look out. You know how those things operate so I hope you know how they will behave as well.” Yusaf’s face immediately turned hopeless when he heard his brother’s orders. “So you were buttering mem up for this. You really are shameless brother.” Yusaf says with a disgusted tone.                             “That just means that I trust you Yusaf. I may have yet to trust every human in this place but my trust in you and the others are whole.” Flugar says and his younger brother immediately understands. “If that’s the case then I guess I have no choice.” Yusaf wave his hand before leaving wit Xerxes and the others.                             Casim met with Xerxes, waiting  for them in front of their room. ”I have already prepared your rooms so you can rest well.” Casim informed them. Thanks Casim, but you should have not bothered. We might be attacked any moment now, being in a comfortable place to stay will only dull our senses.” Xerxes said to the young man but is thankful that for the thought. “Yusaf, this is Casim, the person that I met when I tried to roam that time.”               The two shook hands and told that they have already met. “I have met this young man twice now. The first time when we hunted something to eat and the second time is now. I am Yusaf of the elven tribe. Nice to meet you Casim.” Yusaf smiles. Casim bows his head out of nowhere which surprised Yusaf and the other elves. “I heard what happened that made your paths cross with Xerxes. I apologize for the crimes that my race had done.” Yusaf remembers his sister’s face and turns away.                            “It must be hard staring at our faces after what our kind has done to your kin that’s why I apologize in their stead.” Yusaf pat his shoulder and tells him to stand upright. “There is no need to apologize to me. I also heard from Xerxes your elder’s story. It was fate that brought us together so let’s along from now on.” After their brief exchange of words, Casim left so that they can rest peacefully and recover their strength.                            A few hours later before Yusaf’s turn to watch, Xerxes walks out of the room when everyone is asleep and resting. ‘What the hell is wrong with this world? Angels? What does that creature mean when it said about the son of man? Who does it refer to? There is no way that it would be me. I am just a normal person, an ordinary person just like everybody else.’ Overwhelmed of the things that he learned he slowly starts to breakdown in pieces not knowing why he is being brought back to the world.                            ‘All I ever got is even more questions that I do not even have the answers to.’ Xerxes is so stressed of the things that both elves and men talked about that he did not even sensed that Flora is standing beside him while holding a clay pot. “You look really distressed.” She says with a meek tone that Xerxes thought that she is a ghost and jolt back a few steps. “I’m sorry, did startle you? I thought you heard me walking since my footwear is quite loud in this certain part of our place.”                                   Xerxes shakes his head and apologizes. “You are not the one at fault. I am just drowned in my thoughts that I can’t even hear properly.” Xerxes says while looking at the sky through the small window in the wall. “What happened to this world? How did it end up like this?” he ask the young lady who then place the clay pot on the floor and stare at the stars as well.                             “There is a legend passed down from the oldest of our kind about the world being as modernized than it is right now. Though we did not have the imagination to think about the things that the legend talks about. They said  that there is a place where all the things about our world is kept and that it is at the center of this place where most dangerous monsters roam. Nobody really knows if that place exist since it is really dangerous to venture in the world with these many creatures after your life and none of our people would risk their lives for to look for a place that inly exist in the legend.” Xerxes turns to look at flora after hearing what she said.                             The young lady also turns to him and smiles and continues her story. “The first humans said that strange creatures appear from dimensional rifts where the monsters have originated but it is not a single dimensional rift, multiple rifts opened and each rift house different kinds of monsters and humans being the weaker species have to adjust to the new world. Some of the original people did not believe that everything was real so they end up being eaten by various monsters that crave meat. We have the weapons, the one that you have but as time passes by. The number of people that know how to use it shrinks until there is none left.”                             “Some tried to discover how to use it but ends up perishing to the weapons hands. Without much knowledge, they gave up on the weapons and resort to using swords, knives and other weapons that are far less complicated.” Flora stops and picks the pot on the floor and turns to Xerxes with a flustered face.                            “I can’t thank you enough for saving Casim for the second time and our entire tribe. If you want anything, I will do my best to fulfill it.” She says with a smile and leaves. “I hope you get some rest for tomorrow.” After Flora gave him a small portion of the whole context of what happened to the earth after he died, a small part of his worries disappeared along with his other questions.                             ‘This is not right. I should not ponder over something that no one will be able to answer. The only thing I can do is find the answers myself.’ He says to himself and enters the room to rest once more.
