“Denied.” Xerxes said while sitting with Rupert and Ramirez around Samantha after saying that she wants to apply. “Master, even if it’s you. That is quite rude even without hearing what the rest of her reason.” Rupert said with a doubtful tone. “I know right? The master has been on the edge ever since we returned- and that is all because of these bastards!” Ramirez yells after pulling out his flintlock but Rupert stops him from doing anything bad for their name.

              “Snap out of it Ramirez, there is nothing good that will come out if you do that.” Rupert struggles to take away the flintlock but still manage to take it from Ramirez’s hands. “You i***t. We are in the middle of a meeting and you do something like that, are you a real i***t?” Ramirez sits like an obedient kid as Rupert locks the room away. “Now, back to what we are talking about. What is the real reason why you want to work here miss Samantha?” Rupert returns to their initial subject.

              “I want to apply to work here because I spent every penny in my savings after paying for the commission fee. I was planning to move to the city and it was unexpected that we are able to bring back father so I need to earn again.” She said with a meek tone, Rupert and Ramirez are moved to tears but Xerxes remain solid and unmoving. “Eh? So you want to earn money for moving to the city huh? Well, you really need a lot of money to move so I get it but what I don’t understand is that why did you choose to apply here? There are a lot of shops that offer jobs and most of them are basic ones.” Xerxes asked with a stern tone. “Can you please tell us the real reason why?” he adds.

              Samantha looks from left and right before saying that she is a little ashamed to tell them the real reason. “Then there is nothing to talk about. We can’t just hire someone we can’t trust. The three of us here trust each other more than anyone else so if someone comes in and doesn’t fit in our standards.” Xerxes said as he stands up but before he could leave, Samantha grabs his hand and stops him from taking a single step. “I’ll say it. So please don’t- so please don’t leave.” She pleads with a puffy eye.

              ‘Look at this girl. Does she wants to work here that badly?’ Xerxes looks at her blankly and lets out a sigh. “Alright, lets hear it.” Xerxes sits down and looks at her. “I want to work here because I’m interested in you-!” the three of them are staring at her and reacted a little late. “What?!”

              A few moments later

              “So that’s what it is. You should have picked the right words properly. You made us all think the wrong way- hahahaha!” Rupert said as Ramirez shares the laughter together. “I’m really sorry. Its just that I am not good with words and conveying what I want to say so I messed up.” She says with an extremely flustered expression. “It’s all good, I know master is unmovable so there is no need to worry about it.” Ramirez said as he pat Xerxes’ back. ‘Unmovable my ass- she almost got me there. If she did not clarify it I would have thought it as it is. But that brings me to another question. Why does she want to learn about the things that we have developed? Is she a spy from those people that wants to get a hold of our technology? It would be bad to hire someone with the thing in mind. We should be mindful of the persons around us after all.’ Xerxes thinks to himself unaware that he had been staring at Samantha for a while.

              “Master- master- master.” He snaps back into reality after Rupert continuously calls out to him. “Huh? What?” he ask as he turns to Rupert and told him what he has been doing. “Oh!  I was thinking of something and got lost in thought. Sorry about that.” Rupert nods his head. “So what will be the verdict master? We have already heard her reason for applying to work here.” He said as Xerxes nods his head.

              “Yeah but let me I will ask you another thing.” Samantha and Rupert as well as Ramirez is surprised that he has more to ask before making a decision so they listen carefully. “Why did you take interest in the things that we developed? Are you a spy paid by those people? So that they can get our technology?” Rupert just realized that their master is just being cautious and then also shares the same sentiment. ‘I forgot. All the happy times got in my head and made me forget that we are developing more advanced weapons. Surely the people that ignored us before are more than interested to get a hold of our technology. Master is sharp.’ Rupert turns to look at Ramirez and as expected, he process the question really slow before his eyes lit up because of the idea.

              Rupert shakes his head in disbelief after seeing Ramirez. “That is what I want to ask as well miss Samantha.” Rupert supported. “I- just find it interesting. And I am not a spy from whoever you are referring to.” She said with a meek tone. “Then I guess you are cleared. Lets just sign the contract tomorrow. You can go home now and prepare to work next thing in the morning.” Xerxes said as his words lifted a some weighs on her shoulders. “Thank you very much!” she says as the two congratulates her. “See you tomorrow miss Samantha.” They bid her goodbye as she leaves the store.

              “Was that okay master?” Rupert ask as he turns to Xerxes. “Yes, that should be enough. Let’s just observe her for now.”

              SCRIBBLE! SCRIBBLE! SCRIBBLE! SCRIBBLE! SCRIBBLE! SCRIBBLE! SCRIBBLE! SCRIBBLE!

              “Remember these, if she shows signs based on what is written on that paper. Then we are going to terminate the contract as soon as possible.” Xerxes hands Rupert a piece of paper and then reads it immediately. “Are you sure about this master?” Xerxes nods his head before leaving for his office. “Yes- I am.”

              The next day, Samantha arrives in front of the shop at the same time she arrived the day earlier. She signed the contract after reading it carefully. After that she starts working immediately but due to the people that making a scene outside. They did not have a single costumer and it lasted for a few days.

              A few days later

              “Thank you for y our hard work miss Samantha, let us take care of the rest. You can go home first.” Ramirez said as he takes the broom away from her. “You live far away from here right? It’s getting dark.” Rupert said as Samantha thanks them for their generosity. “Thank you very much, then I will leave now. See you tomorrow.” She says with a smile and then left the shop. Rupert and Ramirez looks at each other and then returns the broom to where it usually is. “It’s time.” They both closed the shop and then dress themselves in black robes and went out using the backdoor.

              It was dark and the two are following behind Samantha in the distance when all of the sudden, her walking starts getting faster and someone pulls her to an alley.

              “So what did you have for us? Don’t tell us that you have not seen them make those things again or I will crush your pretty mouth.” A man with a huge build says with an intimidating tone as Samantha cowers in terror. “They did not allow me to enter the room where they make the weapons. I’m sorry-!”

              SLAP!

              “The boss is sick of hearing that excuse for a few days. He is expecting to get something today and you just have the same excuse again?!” the man shouts as he gestures to slap Samantha again. “Do you really want to help your mother with her debt like that? Are you sh*tting with us?!”

              SLAP!

              Samantha is on her knees after the second slap as the man continues to talk her down. “You said you want to pay your mother’s debt in any other means besides  your body but it looked  to me that you’re better off using your body instead.” The man grabs her hair and tries to slap her once again but then a person stops his hand. “I think that’s enough, I’ve heard enough bullsh*t.” Samantha’s eyes widen after recognizing the voice before her as the man then yanks his hand off. “Who the hell are you to butt in?!” the person took off his head and reveals that it is Xerxes himself.

              “Who the hell I am? I bet this answers your question.” Xerxes said with a cold tone as the huge man proceeds to knock him out but Xerxes pulls his knife out and deflects the man’s punch and cut his joint with a flash swing of his knife. The swing is so fast that the man did not notice that his joint is cut and then proceeds to use his other arm to punch Xerxes down, but the latter have already pulled out his gun and made a flame in an instant and points it to the man’s fist.

              “That’s quite unfortunate for you.”

              BANG!

              “AHHHH!” the man screams in pain as the bullet tears through his fingers and run through his hand up to his arm, he drops to the ground and only realized that his other arm is also useless. The men with the huge man run towards the alley but Rupert and Ramirez intercept them. “I advice you not to make any sudden movements or think of doing something funny. I don’t like the sensation of slicing through a fellow human’s meat after all.” Ramirez said with a cold tone. “KEUK!”

              BAM! BOOOM!

              Xerxes drags and throws the huge man inside the building of the authorities responsible for arresting criminals. “What is this?” the commander ask after seeing the bloodied arms of the man. “This guy assaulted my employee so I had to take action.” The commander recognize the man and that he belongs to a big association. “Is that so? You can go now, boys bring this man back to your place-!” Xerxes stops the men from dragging the huge man away from the place. “Are you f*cking with me right now? Are you telling me that you are afraid of the man backing this guy?” Xerxes ask in a cold tone as Samantha stops him but Rupert pulls her away.

              “Sir, I can’t just judge him on my own. Everybody knows that getting involved with them is dangerous.” The other authorities then nods their heads as the man chuckles  and laughs at Xerxes. “Hahahah! My boss’ influences extends in the entire village! Go and make a scene if you want to die-!”

              BAM!

              Xerxes kicks the man’s jaw and put him to sleep in an instant. “Who told you that you could talk?” Xerxes said before turning his head towards the commander. “Do you see me as a person that gives a sh*t? if  you are not willing to take action then I guess I will have to do it myself.” Xerxes then pulls out his flintlock and knife and ignites the flintlock and points it to the man but then a man appears and stop Xerxes before the gun fires.

              “Please stop Mr. Xerxes.”

              BANG!

              ‘This man- is with the old man hunter from back then.’ He says to himself as he puts his weapons away. “I’m sorry for what my subordinates have told you. I will take on this myself. I assure you that this man and his boss will be judged according to our law.” The old man promised as his comrades wants to protest but the old man shuts them off. “Shut up! You have already brought shame to the oath and you dare to tarnish it even more?! Go to your quarters and write off your resignation letters! I don’t want corrupted personnel in this place!” the old man screams as they immediately leave the scene.

              After a few exchange, the four of them left  the building after taking care of everything. “How did you know about this Mr. Rupert?” Samantha ask. “You know, the day before you signed the contract. The master handed me a piece of paper with the written words ‘Observing intensely, works really hard and stays in late at work’ he told me to watch out for those things and if you check on all of those things then that means that you are being taking advantage of or being used. He told us to follow you secretly after you signed the contract and the days after that until now and sure enough the master is right.” Rupert explains as Samantha turns to Xerxes immediately in surprise.

              [Incredible, he had already seen this coming and had made a plan? In that moment?] she thinks to herself as Rupert continues. “The master told me that he had been tailing you as well and listened to every word that the man said for a few days. You did not disclose any information regarding our weapons because you plan to work it out by earning as much as possible to pay off the debt without spreading our technology. The master had thought about that and made a plan to deal with those people and this is what it is now.” Rupert added as they stop.

              To Samantha’s surprise, they walk her to her house. “I am officially welcoming you to our shop as our employee. Good job.” Xerxes said as tears flow on Samantha’s face after everything that they have done for her. The three then waved good bye as they left the moment she step inside the gate. Diana opens the door after hearing her daughter’s voice outside. “Oh! You came home a lot late, what happened?” she ask as Samantha shakes her head. “Nothing happened mom.” She said as they step inside the house.

              She looks back one more time at the gates and found that the three are gone. ‘I think it’s great that you and my mother did not end up together otherwise our lives would not have crossed. You were so cool back there.’ She thinks to herself as she smiles brightly while walking beside her mother.
