Broken Earth: Unveiling the Secrets of the Worlds

Unprecedented battle

Everyone is tense as they look at the numbers of the enemy standing before them like a horde of orcs with full body armor. “Don’t show them that you are afraid. They will definitely use that chance to take you down.” Xerxes reminds them. The elves are aware of that fact since they are the veterans in hunting but this is the first time they have seen such a monster so they don’t know what to do since they have no information regarding the monsters.

FOOOOSH!

One of the humanoid beetles attack first Xerxes saw this and immediately grab Faras away and evade the attack by the hair. Xerxes takes that chance to take the monster down. He remains in front of the monster after grabbing Faras away and points his flintlock at the gap between the beetle’s and fires the shot. “Try blocking this.” The beetle turns to swipe Xerxes away but the latter’s fingers are even faster to pull the trigger.

BANG! SHLLLLK! THUD!

The beetle falls to the ground and surprised everyone with his reflexes. “Yeah- I that you were going to survive that one but I guess I’m wrong.” Kris says pissed off as he wipes the goo that came from the beetle after shooting its neck. Xerxes unsheathe his katana and knife. Throwing his flintlock away since he can’t show the monsters that his weapon needs time to fire again. ‘Looking at their behavior, its likely that these monsters has even a significant amount  intelligence. Otherwise they would just attack us out of nowhere. Are they here to establish a connection- no. If that’s the case then they should have stopped those who died first. While Xerxes is figuring out the reason for their sudden appearance, Ysa told Yusaf that she can handle herself.

“You sure? I can still carry you though. But I guess that’s okay. With these agile monsters around, even I will have a hard time defending with you in my arms. But it’s a different story if my hands are free.” A smile crept on his face as he unsheathe the katana behind his back. “Now, let me enjoy and savor this fight.” Xerxes flash a smile as he welcomes back Yusaf in the front lines. “We can do this though, Ysa looked a bit disappointed.” Xerxes says trying to get into Yusaf’s head but the proud elf bites him back. “Eh, but it looks like everyone is in a pinch.” He retorted and Xerxes chuckles. “Elves, where are your pride? We are the elves! Yet you let a human stand up to all of you! We are the renowned best hunters of this world so remember that and take your weapons and slay the monsters in front of you!”

With Yusaf’s words, Xerxes, Rupert and Ramirez felt the burning anguish if the other elves. ‘That hurt me a little but I guess that worked.’ Xerxes says as his fellow humans also take their weapons. The beetles take this as a sign that the fight is about to begin and did not hesitate to attack first. With their huge bodies, they easily break the branches of trees that their arms sweep. But the elves showed no fear and attacks them head on after hearing Yusaf’s words.

Not wanting to be left behind, Xerxes’ group compete with the elves and fought the beetles with a little caution.

CHINK!

Even with the armor plating like exoskeleton around their bodies, Yusaf easily cuts through their limbs and finishes with a stab through their heads.

BANG!

              In comparison to Yusaf’s ruthless way of fighting, Xerxes takes down the beetles giving them a sudden and painless death. Using his flintlock to attack and defend from the attacks of the beetles. ‘My flintlock is mate of metal but even if it’s made of metal there is a limit that a flintlock is only able to endure.’ Xerxes thinks to himself as he only uses his flintlock to defend in certain attacks that he deemed wouldn’t have that much damage to his gun.

The other elves got scratched by the beetles’ attacks but it is not enough to take them down. “Take this you bastards! How dare you lowly beetles humiliate us, elves like that!” Carleon shouts as he hack through the body of the beetle that he just killed. Faras also did the same thing to the beetles that he takes down. Both of the elves’ natural behavior returns and vent their anger to the beetles.

Xerxes’ group sees their behavior and acts as if they did not see a thing. ‘I’ll just pretend that I did not see a thing. Yes, that would be the best thing that I can do.’ Both Rupert and Ramirez think to themselves after seeing the usually calm elves do something horrific in their eyes. With their numbers running low, because of the combines efforts of the Xerxes and Yusaf’s group. The beetles turns to the individual that is most easily be killed, Ysa. Standing behind everyone, the beetles proceed to lunge towards her.

Something that Xerxes had already seen coming.

 FWOOOSH! SHLLLK! STAB!

The very first beetle to arrive in front of Ysa falls to the ground with Yusaf standing on it’s back and gives the beetles a cold stare after pulling out his katana from the beetle’s head. “Where do you think you are doing? You think that we’ll allow you to do that?” a bottle flies above the beetles’ heads, Xerxes’ one of two dangerous weapon, the molotov.

KSHHHK!

The beetles struggle as they caught in flames and tries to fly away but their wings immediately burns out, making them vulnerable to Xerxes’ and Yusaf’s groups’ attack. And in a few minutes, all the beetles die with swift deaths from the katana.

              THUMP!

              “That ate all the energy away from my body. -ow.” Rupert falls to his back due to exhaustion. Everyone else also sit under the trees after an unprecedented fight. “That was a tiring fight. I did not expect to fight monsters like that.” Faras says to himself and sees that his hands are covered in blisters. Everyone else that held and used the katana had some blisters all over their hands aside from the small injuries that they received from the beetles. Most of the elves had the worst injuries after fighting recklessly while Xerxes and his group suffered much less injuries than the elves.

              “We can’t rest here. Their blood or whatever will attract other monsters and worst, same of their species. If that happens we are in big trouble.” Xerxes told the others but seeing that they are all exhausted from the fight. He overlook and allows them to rest for a bit before moving. ‘This will be a good thing to show to the humans back home. They will have a good idea how dangerous the portal is right now.’ Xerxes says to himself as he wraps a dead beetle.

              “What are you going to use that for?” Yusaf asked. “This will seal off their doubts  if they don’t believe us. We might have not finished making a safe route but this thing will be our ticket way out.” Xerxes explains. He then turns to look at the katanas which are all in bad conditions. “We might not want to have another fight. Our weapons look like they are on their last feet as well. We should postpone the plan to make a safe route and return to our lands. Ysa looks like she needs immediate treatment.” Yusaf and the others agree to Xerxes and decided to be on their way before nightfall.

              “Don’t you need help with that thing?” Yusaf offers to help them carry the body of the beetle but Xerxes declines, thinking that they will be in trouble if they move in the dark of the night. “We can handle it, Ysa and all of your injuries take priority. Next time don’t fight recklessly, we have less injuries so we are fine.” The two shake hands and felt the blisters on their hands and then burst in laughter. “Looks like we are all not spared from the blisters.” Yusaf says as he pat Xerxes shoulders.

              “Good luck my friend.” The made a little exchange before walking in the direction of their destination. “You too, all of you. Have a safe trip back.” Xerxes then helped the two in carrying the corpse after waving their hands in goodbye to their companions. An hour later after a few stops to rest, Xerxes’ group walks back in the portal only to be greeted by a lot of people waiting anxiously for their news.

              “What happened?” one man among the authorities that they have talked before leaving ask Xerxes and the others. “We failed to make a new safe route.” With short words, the crowd went on an uproar and curse the three for letting them down. “Yeah- but we have a valid reason for that failure.” Xerxes signals Ramirez to takes the cover off from the corpse and everyone is horrified of the humanoid beetle that they brought.

              “What the hell is that thing?!” some of the people in the crowd run away after seeing the creature and some even fainted. The smell of it’s blood, made them cover their noses. In disgust, normal citizens move back a little but the hunters that are known for entering the portal swallowed their disgust to observe the creature’s body. “Looks like a beetle?” one of the hunters mutters.

              Xerxes confirms this and tells them that this is a new monster that they have seen and even fought inside the portal. “This creature is agile enough to outrun the fastest person to run. It is strong enough to break branches with a simple it can fly in such high speeds.” Xerxes says as he tap the beetle’s exoskeleton.

              CHING!

              “Hear that? It is also completely covered in armor. Mere arrows and half ass knife will only shatter before their armor. So heed my advice, don’t walk inside the portal for now. Leather armors are utterly useless against these guys.” Xerxes says with a stern tone.
