Chapter 49Simmy settled into his new routine, and I started to drop him off at the buildings at six-thirty in the morning before going off to the dealership. Simmy soon discovered that it was far too early to do anything in any of the buildings as most of the tenants were still asleep. Rather, he found a coffee shop just up Bathurst Street a few blocks and he would sit there and drink coffee, smoke cigarettes and read the paper before heading back down to begin his working day. At five o'clock, I'd come back and help him with anything that needed doing or more often, pick him up to take him home. It wasn't arduous work and in some ways, Simmy found it to be rather pleasant. He came to know the tenants quite well, even if at first they seemed disconcerted by his dark looks and intensity. I
