Chapter 46Our son, Reuben, was born healthy and strong-lunged in March, 1949. The winter had broken early that year and I had been promoted to shop foreman at Murchison's on Bay. My pay rose to $1.20 an hour. Between what I and Esther earned with her hair appointments, we had managed to save $2000 and planned to use that as a down payment for a house.
