Episode 1 — The Letter Beneath the Door
Elaris was the kind of city that glittered like a dream. At night, its lamps shimmered gold along quiet cobblestone streets, and the river that cut through the city looked like liquid starlight. From her small apartment above the Bellrow District, Evelyn Everhart watched the world go by. People laughed beneath her window. Music played from a distant café. But she stood still—coffee in hand, lost in the quiet ache that always followed her. The stars were her only comfort. They didn’t judge. They didn’t leave. They simply listened. But that night, something changed. A faint whisper reached her from the floor near the door. She frowned and stepped closer. An envelope—pale cream, sealed with silver wax—had been slipped beneath the door. Her name was written on it in elegant, swirling letters: Evelyn Everhart. Her heart skipped. She didn’t recognize the handwriting. She didn’t recognize anything about it. The seal was strange too—a star enclosed in a circle, shining faintly as though it remembered the light. Evelyn hesitated, then tore it open. Inside lay a black card, the surface smooth as glass. Silver letters glimmered softly across it: “At midnight, come to the Starlit Courtyard. All will be revealed.” No sender. No address. Nothing but those haunting words. Evelyn turned the card over and gasped. A faint outline of the city had been drawn in silver ink—a map. And at one point, a single star symbol shone. “The Starlit Courtyard…” she whispered. She’d never heard of such a place. The clock ticked softly behind her. 10:47 p.m. For a long while, she stood there, torn between reason and curiosity. She should throw it away. Forget it. But something deep inside her—something she didn’t understand—told her this wasn’t a coincidence. It felt like a call. By 11:45, she was outside. The streets were nearly empty, painted silver by moonlight. Her breath formed soft clouds in the cool air. She followed the map’s faint lines on her phone screen, moving through parts of Elaris she’d never seen. The deeper she went, the quieter it became. Finally, she reached it. An arched gate, half hidden by vines, stood between two abandoned buildings. Etched faintly into the iron were the words: THE STARLIT COURTYARD Her pulse quickened. She pushed the gate open. The courtyard beyond was breathtaking—a round space framed by old marble pillars and bathed in light that didn’t seem to come from the sky. A fountain glowed softly in the center, reflecting starlight even though the stars above were dim. And then she saw him. A man stood by the fountain, his back to her. The wind lifted his dark hair, and when he turned, her breath caught. His eyes glowed faintly, silver like moonlight. He looked at her as though he’d been waiting. “You came,” he said quietly. Evelyn froze. “Who are you?” He smiled—soft, knowing. “Someone who’s been searching for you.” She stepped back, heart racing. “This must be a mistake.” “It’s not,” he said, taking a step closer. “You don’t feel it yet? The stars… they’ve been calling your name for years.” Evelyn stared at him, speechless. The fountain shimmered brighter, and for a moment she thought she heard a faint whisper in the air—like voices made of light. Her voice trembled. “What are you talking about?” The man looked up at the sky, then back at her. “You’ll know soon. Midnight has just begun.” And before she could speak again, the surrounding starlight flared—blinding, warm, alive. When it faded, he was gone. Only the whisper of the stars remained.
