My eyes opened to the sunlight bathing me in its warm glow. I smiled and stretched but when I looked around and found myself in Adan’s bed I could feel my smile wilting and a stark realization settling inside me. I had to get out of here. Wesley’s face flashed in my mind and I knew without a doubt that I needed to go to him. He was out of surgery and I wanted to know how he was doing. This was the time when he needed me most and I wasn’t there for him. What must he be thinking about me? Adan was a jerk and I wish I could revoke his medical license because he was keeping me away from taking care of my boyfriend. This was so not the way to make me fall in love with him. Maybe he doesn’t love you. Maybe he just wants to own you. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what he intended to do. I was smart enough to know that true love didn’t involve kidnapping a person and forcing them to love you. But then again, Adan already owned me, so him going to all these lengths didn’t make sense. “Whatever. I’m not here to dissect his intentions. I need to get out of here and check on Wesley,” I said to myself before getting out of bed and rushing to the bathroom. I quickly finished my business and got out to see Adan standing in the room, looking regal and handsome as ever. Today he wore a pale green shirt with olive green jeans. “I didn’t expect you to wake up so soon. I’m sure you can use another couple of hours of sleep,” he said but I paid him no mind and tried to walk away but he grabbed my arm to stop me. His green eyes pinned me in place. “Let’s get one thing clear; when I’m speaking to you, you pay attention to me. Ignoring me isn’t an option, Angel.” “I have nothing to say to you, Master,” I spat. He strode over to where I stood and tipped my head back by placing two fingers under my chin. “Your mouth may remain shut but your eyes speak volumes, so don’t give me this s**t about not having anything to say to me. And when I’m speaking to you I want your eyes on me and nothing else. Is that clear?” I heaved a mental sigh and nodded because glaring at him was not an option. God knows what he’d do to me if I gave him a reaction he didn’t want. “I want to go and see Wesley. He just had surgery and I want to go and make sure he’s okay,” I said, knowing full well that I’d be met with resistance. “You’ll forget about Wesley and every other man if you know what’s good for you,” he stated. “In that case I should forget about you as well,” I shot back, surprised to see the smirk that danced on his lips. “You can try, Angel. You can try hard to forget me but you never will,” he said in a tone that left no room for doubt. How could he be sure I wouldn’t forget him? Because you think of him way often than you should. But he didn’t know that. My thoughts about Adan were private. He was a doctor and my Master on top of that, but he wasn’t a mind reader. He couldn’t possibly know I’d been obsessing over him since I’d been old enough to know how incredibly hot he was. “Don’t be so sure, Master,” I said because I didn’t want him to know he owned my mind. “I am sure. Because I’ll make sure you can never forget me,” he stated but let go of me, causing me to sigh in relief. I didn’t want him to know that his touch had goosebumps spreading all over my back. And how every time he looked at me it made me forget everything but his eyes as they kept me prisoner. This man affected me way more than he should and that wasn’t normal. I’d never felt this way with any other man. Even though I was with Wesley, his touch merely left me warm compared to the inferno that blazed hot and wild at Adan’s touch. Which wasn’t okay. These feelings and sensations weren’t okay. And the sooner I got away from it all, the sooner I’d be able to regain my sanity. “I want to go and see Wesley,” I repeated, just so I wouldn’t have to focus on how green his eyes were and wondered how his arms would feel around me. “You’re not going anywhere. Especially to see another man. And stop taking his name. It pisses me off,” he said. “Breakfast will be here in just a moment. I have to go to the hospital and don’t think you can escape. There are cameras everywhere.” “What the hell?! You can’t just expect me to stay here and do nothing!” I protested. “That’s exactly what I expect you to do.” “I understand you kidnapped me but you can’t keep me here. I—I’ll get out of here. Just you wait,” I warned him. “You can try all you want, Angel. You’ll be the one to bear the consequences after that,” he replied, forcing me to pause. “What consequences?” He gave me a cruel smile which had my heart screaming and looking for an escape. “Try and escape if you want to find out. I’d love to see you locked up in the dungeon.” He paused, letting his words sink in. “And let’s not forget Wesley and the pain he’ll endure because of you.” “Pa—pain?” I swallowed hard as fear exploded in my mind. Wesley had already been through so much with his illness, I didn’t want him to suffer anymore, particularly at my Master’s hands. Adan nodded. “Yes. He’s still at the hospital and will remain there until he recovers. So if I find out you tried to escape, then something bad might just happen to him.” I stared at him, wide eyed, unable to believe this man. He was a doctor. It was his job to heal people and to alleviate their pain. But here he was telling me he’d hurt an innocent man just to teach me a lesson. He was a monster. And he was insane. “No. Don’t. Stay away from him. You have a problem with me, right? Keep Wesley out of it. He’s innocent,” I said, but it was evident that Adan didn’t care. “He tried to take what’s mine. He’s not innocent,” he stated and my breath hitched in surprise. “I won’t budge on this. You try anything and he’ll be the one to suffer.” “Th—that’s not fair!” I cried, wanting to hit him with the vase in the corner. How could he be so cruel and callous about another human being? “It really doesn’t matter, Angel. The point is you better stay here while I go to work,” he said before turning around and striding over to the door. I didn’t try to stop him. There was no way I wanted him close to me as I tried to digest the magnitude of his words. Adan opened the door but paused at the threshold and turned to look at me. “Oh, and before I forget, you have a meeting with my Grandfather at eleven. He’ll be expect you in his study. Do not be late.” “Your Grandfather? Why does he want to meet me?” I asked. Cornelius Diamandis was a menace and I wanted to stay far away from him. Being the patriarch of the Diamandis family, he truly was the worst of them. He was the reason why the Diamandis name was feared and respected all over the world. And if it wasn’t for him, Adan wouldn’t be as ruthless as he was. “That’s between you and him. You just need to meet him at eleven and you better not be late. You’ll only make me look bad and then poor Wesley might just require another surgery or two,” he threatened before walking out of the room and closing the door behind him. I growled in frustration once he was gone and buried my fingers in my hair as I tried to calm myself. Adan was worse than I thought. I believed him to be compassionate and caring but he was anything but. He was a selfish jerk just like the rest of them. “I will get out of here. I have to. There’s no way I’m staying here and letting him to control me like this,” I vowed to myself just as a knock sounded at the door before it opened to reveal Dina. She smiled before rolling in the breakfast cart. “Good morning, Miss. I brought you breakfast. Please eat it,” she said as she brought the cart to a stop. Before I could say a word she gave me another smile before walking out of the room. “Great. Now I have to eat and face the lion,” I muttered to myself before sitting down on the sofa to eat. I quickly finished breakfast and looked at the clock and nearly choked on my juice when I saw that I had ten minutes left before I was due to meet Adan’s Grandfather. As much as I wanted to defy Adan, I didn’t want to piss Cornelius off so soon. But if he wanted another meeting with me, then I would be late and make Adan look bad. He should understand that I wasn’t an animal he could boss around. I was strong and independent and could do whatever I wanted. Once I finished breakfast, I quickly brushed my teeth and put my hair in a neat ponytail before leaving Adan’s bedroom. I paused at the staircase, not sure where Cornelius wanted to meet me. But I sighed in relief when I saw Colton coming up the stairs. “Master?” I said, making him pause and look at me. I really wished I’d found some other Diamandis and not him. All of them were ruthless, but Colton oozed a special brand of insanity which I hadn’t seen anybody else exhibit and that’s why he scared me the most. “Ohhh careful, little angel,” he said as he took the rest of the stairs and came to stand in front of me. “Don’t let Adan hear you say that.” “What? Why not?” He c****d his head to the right and regarded me with his eerie eyes. “Don’t you know Adan’s your only Master? He would be furious if he finds out you’re addressing somebody else with his title.” “But the rules clearly state that you’re all our Masters,” I argued. “Yes. Those rules don’t apply to you,” he said. “The rules are for everybody else because those families were chosen by our Grandfather and given to us. But Adan chose you. Therefore, he’s your only Master.” I swallowed hard and nodded. “I’ll keep that in mind.” “Make sure you do. I’ll let it slide just this once but make sure it never happens again. Adan won’t like it,” he stated and I nodded once again to let him know I understood. “Ca—can you tell me where your Grandfather is?” I asked. “Adan said he wanted to meet me and I’m running late.” “He’s in his study,” he answered. “Go down the stairs and take a left and then take the stairs and a right turn. You’ll see a door. It’ll be the only one. That’s his study.” “Thank you,” I said and hurried down the stairs before he could say something that would have me putting Wesley in jeopardy and trying to escape this place. I followed Colton’s instructions to the letter and sighed in relief when I saw the plaque next to the door with the name Cornelius Diamandis written on it. Without wasting a breath I raised my fist and knocked on the door. “Enter.” Came a gruff voice from inside and I steeled my resolve before turning the doorknob and poking my head inside. “May I come in?” I said. “You’re twenty three seconds late,” Cornelius said. “Come inside and close the door behind you.” I did as he said and came to stand in front of the giant desk. He sat behind it on a giant chair. The room was spacious but filled to the brim with heavy furniture and decor. There were dark vases and a few of them were occupied with plants. There were family photos which softened my heart for some reason. This man was our king. He owned entire bloodlines and yet he kept his family close. Usually a man like him didn’t bother with family, let alone keeping their pictures in his study. I guess Cornelius Diamandis actually possessed a soul. “Stop wasting time, girl, and sit down,” he ordered in a harsh tone which nearly made me jump. I pulled out a chair, surprised at how heavy it was, and sat down before his glare could incinerate me on the spot. “Master Adan said you wanted to speak to me,” I said. “Yes. I just want to clear a few things and make sure you know your place in this house and in your Master’s life,” he stated and my heart began a slow climb up my throat. “So sit back and get comfortable because you will want to pay attention to every word I say.” The smirk that curved his lips told me I wouldn’t like what he had to tell me. But I couldn’t do anything. I was officially trapped.
