It was only when Adan wasn’t around me was I able to think about Wesley and what Adan made me do to him. It was a no brainer that Wesley would never contact me again. My phone had been silent for days now and I knew it would remain silent in the future as well unless it was Adan himself who was calling me. He did like to blow up my phone from time to time and claimed that he missed me. I didn’t know how I felt about that. A part of me was thrilled that my Master, the man powerful and dangerous enough to own and control my entire family missed me. It meant that I occupied his thoughts whereas the others didn’t. But the part of me who thrived in freedom and independence didn’t believe him in the slightest. After all, why would such a man—who had everything—miss me. He had better things to worry about, especially after forcing me to act out of character and hurt another person. And that part wanted revenge. It wanted to not only avenge itself but it wanted to avenge Wesley, because he was innocent in all this. He didn’t know who I was and I never told him. Had I known Adan wanted me, I would never have gotten into a relationship with him. “What does it matter?” I said and released a bitter laugh. “What’s done is done. Adan got what he wanted and I can’t do anything about it.” He was at work as usual and I didn’t know what to do with myself. If I had a job then I would be making good use of my time. Staying in this mansion where everyone worked against you was boring and exhausting. There was no one around me, yet I couldn’t help but keep looking over my shoulder in case one of Adan’s cousins or his loyal servants was following me. “Hi Grant,” I said to the man who was responsible for opening the door and greeting whoever came through. He was the first person one usually faced upon entering the Diamandis mansion. And he didn’t like half the people who came here. Just like every other staff member, he was only loyal to the Diamandis’. His response came in the form of an annoyed grunt before he settled his cold eyes on me. He was dressed impeccably in a suit as always but the look on his face told me that he was already tired of looking at me and would prefer me to leave. The book in his hands was evidence of where his time was currently going. “How are you?” I asked in an overly cheerful voice. I actually wanted some entertainment and I was hoping he could help me out. His response came in the form of a glare which could’ve turned me to ash if he had any supernatural powers. “Go away, girl,” he said and went back to reading his book without answering my question. “I’m bored,” I complained, ignoring him the same way he was trying to ignore me. “I want to go to the mall and do some shopping.” “Go to your room and stay there. Stop annoying me and your Master,” he said but I was not one to be deterred. He was going to entertain me whether he liked it or not. Grant had an interesting space he was occupying. The room was built like a study with a desk and chair against one wall and a couch along with a rocking chair and a side table on the adjacent wall. That’s where he was currently sitting, rocking gently on the chair while flipping the pages. The window, flanked by gossamer drapes, gave plenty of opportunity for light to enter, which was why he hadn’t turned on the lights. “What book are you reading?” I asked and flopped down on the couch beside him. I eyed the plants in the corner before focusing my attention back on him. “It’s none of your business,” he replied and shifted his hand over the cover, successfully obscuring the title from my eyes. “How long have you been working for the Diamandis family?” I asked, changing tactics. He was going to talk to me whether he liked it or not. And if he wanted to blame someone he could blame his boss. Grant’s response was to flip another page and take a deep breath. I narrowed my eyes at him, wanting to shatter his resolve until he was singing like a canary. “My name is Evie, by the way,” I said. “Your name is Evangeline and I don’t care either way,” he replied in a sulky tone and shifted his eyes as soon as he finished reading the first page and moved on to the second. “Why not? You can call me Evie, like all my friends do,” I said and gave him a smile which he didn’t see. “You don’t have friends. And even if you did I’m not one of them,” he replied, but at least he was talking to me. I considered that a win. “You can be. Like you said I don’t have friends. I do actually but I don’t mind adding one more to the list,” I said. “I’m not interested in being your friend. Please leave now and let me read,” he said but I wasn’t going anywhere. “I want to go to the mall.” “You’re not allowed to go anywhere. Your Master has guards all over the place. So it’s best not to piss him off,” he told me. “Then what am I supposed to do?! I’m bored,” I whined, knowing he didn’t give a f**k. “Go and sleep,” he said. “I don’t want to sleep. I want to do something.” “Talk to your Master. He’s the only friend you have now,” Grant replied and flipped another page. How the hell could he read and talk to me at the same time? I’m sure he wants to kill you right now. Well thanks to Adan, Grant couldn’t do anything to me. “How many siblings do you have? Like do you even have any family?” The look he shot me could cut diamonds and I actually gulped and shifted away from him. Before I could ask him something else he grabbed his phone which was sitting on the table beside him and pressed it to his ear. After a few seconds I heard him speak. “Hello Master, I just wanted to let you know that I have your charge right here with me. I keep telling her to leave me alone but she refuses to leave and keeps asking me questions which blatantly violate my privacy,” he said and I realized exactly who he was talking to. My jaw dropped at the allegation of me violating his privacy and I couldn’t believe he was such a snitch! “Yes, of course,” he said and held out the phone for me to take. “It’s your Master.” I glared at him as I snatched the phone from him and held it against my ear. “Hello?” I said, not caring if I sounded sullen. “What are you doing, Angel?” Adan asked and I could hear the laughter in his voice. “I’m bored and your footman isn’t helping matters. I told him I want to go to the mall but he keeps telling me to go to my room,” I said. If Grant was going to be a snitch then so was I. Adan chuckled and I wished I could hit him with something heavy. “Why don’t you come over to the hospital and spend some time with me? I have surgery right now and then I’m free for the rest of the day. We can go and explore some other restaurant.” “No. I’m still mad at you. At least I can go to the mall and look for a dress for the fundraiser you’re forcing me to go to,” I replied while completely ignoring the glare Grant was sending my way. He really needed to remove the frustration stuck up his ass and loosen up a little. “You don’t have to buy a dress because I already have one being prepared for you,” Adan replied. “It will be ready by tomorrow.” “Ugh, why do you have to do that? I’m perfectly capable of picking out my own dress,” I said. Now I had no reason to go to the mall but I was still bored. “Yes, but I decided to choose the dress for you. It’s just something you’ll have to live with,” he stated and I forced myself not to whine in protest. “Okay then. I have no reason to go to the mall anymore, thanks to you. I’ll just go and suffer through boredom for the next however many hours,” I said in a biting tone. “Just come to the hospital. I’ll keep you entertained. Give the phone back to Grant, I’ll tell him to get the chauffeur ready,” he ordered, clearly making the decision for me. I huffed and handed the phone back to Grant. “I really don’t like you,” I snapped at him and stood up from the couch. However, my jaw dropped when he just rolled his eyes in response and pressed the phone to his ear, no doubt ready to listen and do whatever Adan told him to do, and I swear I wanted to rip the book from his hands and smack him with it. But I just left his study and went upstairs to change into something worthy of the outdoors. Once I’d changed I left the house to see a car waiting for me. I slid in the back and the chauffeur took me to the hospital where my Master was waiting for me. I checked the time on my phone and knew that Adan would be in surgery by the time I reached. Which was fine and that would give me some time to prepare to face him. The chauffeur dropped me off at the hospital and drove away and I stepped inside, taking in the scent of antiseptic and disease around me. I wasn’t comfortable being here, especially because this was the place where Adan told me to break up with Wesley. My eyes looked around at the doctors and nurses walking around me, not caring about who I was or what I wanted. I spotted a few patients sitting in the waiting area while a couple of other women were reading magazines. My eyes roamed over everyone before I decided to just go and wait in Adan’s office until he came. The door was open which had me sighing in relief because I did not want to wait outside. I quickly stepped inside and closed the door softly behind me. The lights came on instantly, no doubt sensing my presence and I pulled out a chair and sat down. My eyes instantly drifted to the picture frame which was sitting innocent next to his computer and once again I wondered why he kept this picture. Why me? He never told me; never gave me a proper answer. I got up and rounded the desk to pick up the picture frame and stared at my smiling face. I could tell why he kept this picture. I looked good in the dress I was wearing and the smile on my face was genuine. I wasn’t posing for this shot, at least not in the traditional sense. I was genuinely happy that day and couldn’t stop smiling. Had I lost that happiness? Would I ever smile again like that? With Adan I knew life wouldn’t be easy. He was tough and demanding and chose to do everything I didn’t want. He pushed me to do things I didn’t want and I almost hated myself for it. But I couldn’t be weak against him. I had to hold my own because he was clearly set on a different target which I had yet to know about. The sound of the door opening had me setting the frame back in its place, but it wasn’t Adan who entered much to my surprise. It was somebody I’d never seen before in my life, nor did I ever expect to see being so forward as to invade his privacy. A woman entered the office and I immediately took in her curly blonde hair which was tied up with a hair claw with a few loose strands framing her face and sharp blue eyes which made me feel like there was nothing she didn’t notice. When her eyes found mine, her hot pink lips curved into a smile which could bring any man to his knees. “Hello Evangeline,” she said. Surprised sucker punched me in the stomach and I took back, trying to figure out how in the world did she know me. “I’m sorry, do I know you?” I said after a while, hating that I was the one at a disadvantage. “No, you don’t. But then again, not many people do,” she replied. “Who are you?” I asked. She held out her hand and I just stood there like a deer caught in the headlights, staring at it. “I’m Zilpah, Adan’s sister.” Wait what?! Sister? Adan had a sister?
