Prologue
An elderly woman turned up at the police station at around 7.30 am on Saturday morning. She was terrified and hysterically started screaming and waving her hands. At one point she lost consciousness. The panicked policemen put the scared woman on a bench and left her there until she woke up.
-What do you think happened?
-I don't know, probably anything. She looks hysterical to me.
-She wouldn't have come here for no reason, would she? -She wouldn't.
-You know that old McFlynn?
-The one who used to come in every day and complain about the neighbour for snoring too loud?
-I think she's that kind of woman. -Yeah. We'll wait until she wakes up, sees what she says.
After an hour, the woman woke up, but she was still in shock.
-Good morning, I'm Constable Joseph Smith. You're at the police station, how are you?
-ee... My head hurts. Something to drink, please.
After drinking a glass of water, the woman began to answer the policemen's questions.
-What's your name?
-Amy James
-Why did you come to the station? -Why?
-I found six women's bodies in the River Clyde as I was crossing the bridge into the city centre.
-when?
-This morning
-What bridge was it on?
-on the Jamaica Bridge
-what time?
-I don't know, about 7 am? I think so.
- Is that what you think?
-Yeah, no, I don't know, it was horrible, those bodies of women, all bloody and blue. Full of blood and dressed in white,........ young girls...horrible
Mrs James became frantic and cried. She couldn't get any more words out. Police officer Smith escorted the elderly woman to her flat and warned her that the police would be coming to take a statement.
