Hello, 2009
Hello, 2009.
Inside the studio, it was messy, dark, and filled with a pungent smell of smoke. The only window was open, blocked by a thin figure, casting a long shadow.
Jiang Xia remained silent for a while as he looked at the signed name on the divorce agreement, hesitant to pick up the pen.
"So, where are you planning to go after this?"
"I don't know. Maybe I'll take a trip first." Lin Yanwan looked outside the window at the alley and whispered, "It's been eight years, and I'm tired."
"With whom?"
"Alone, and with my guitar."
Hearing this, Jiang Xia's eyes twitched a few times and he looked at the guitar lying in the corner, struggling to speak.
After a long silence, the quiet atmosphere was broken by a soft meowing sound, and his voice echoed slowly in the room.
"Take a break, it's okay."
Lin Yanwan crouched down and gently stroked Yuyuan's head. Her fine hair scattered over half of her face.
"I hope you won't belittle yourself, or be discouraged by temporary failures. Get up and keep going. One day, your potential will shine. And, please stop smoking. I really hate it."
Jiang Xia choked and nodded, "Okay."
"It's been eight years. Do you regret marrying me?"
"Does it matter now?"
Jiang Xia's face showed a bitter smile.
"Yes, it's no use. Even the most beautiful love will be worn down by the daily grind of life. The warmth we once had has gradually been replaced by more and more frequent arguments."
"I'm sorry," he said.
"Jiang Xia, you don't owe me an apology. You only owe it to this home." Lin Yanwan paused, lightly tucking her hair behind her ear and letting out a sigh. "I'm sorry too."
No one was at fault, it was just the seven-year itch.
"I've divided the property, half for each of us."
Jiang Xia sniffled and continued, "I wish you a happy future."
"Same to you."
He took a deep breath and slowly wrote his name.
However, just as he wrote the first stroke of the character for water, the room suddenly began to shake violently.
An earthquake?!
The two of them had just realized what was happening when the old house collapsed.
The ceiling fell, and Jiang Xia instinctively threw himself over Lin Yanwan, covering her with his body. Then, everything went black as he lost consciousness.
"Hiss--"
It hurts, it hurts so much!
"Hey, Old Jiang, how do you feel? Are you okay?"
The sound of a basketball hitting the ground came to Jiang Xia's ears. He covered his head and opened his eyes with difficulty. His vision was slightly hazy, and he saw a basketball court that was once familiar but almost forgotten.
This is... not a hospital?!
He suddenly came back to his senses. Divorce, earthquake, collapsed ceiling, and... Lin Yanwan!
Jiang Xia stood up in a panic, looked around nervously, and saw no earthquake, no ruins everywhere, and no rescue personnel. Instead, he saw--
The banner of the Hundred-Day Oath-taking Rally hanging on the rostrum not far away, and some energetic athletes running around the playground. On the basketball court, there were faces that were familiar yet unfamiliar.
He suddenly became dumbfounded, and distant memories gradually floated to his mind.
Is this high school?
Or is he unconscious after being hit by the falling ceiling, and now he's just dreaming?
Seeing his good friend's dazed look, Wang Ming waved his hand in front of him.
"Old Jiang, don't scare me! Come on, let's go to the infirmary. You guys go first." Without hesitation, he pulled Jiang Xia and headed towards the direction of the infirmary.
"You are... Wang Ming?"
Looking at this guy with a medium build and dark skin in front of him, Jiang Xia's mind was in a mess. He still hadn't come back to his senses and was being pulled away by him in a daze.
"????" Wang Ming stopped and looked at him.
"Brother, don't you tell me that you were hit by a basketball and lost your memory. I've been hit before, it hurts, and the fat guy in the next class lost a front tooth from being hit once. But losing your memory, isn't that too unbelievable?"
Jiang Xia closed his eyes and ignored his friend's constant chatter beside him.
His once lost friend suddenly appeared in front of him. Does that mean he's already dead too? Or is it an image of his past before he dies?
"Hey, hey, hold on, don't faint. Is it really that serious?" Wang Ming quickly helped him up.
Jiang Xia looked at his slightly inexperienced face and suddenly laughed.
"You're f*****g kidding me. I've always said you look like Judge Bao. You have to argue with me and say that you only got tanned after going to Sanya."
Hearing this, Wang Ming's face turned even darker.
"Old Jiang, you're going too far. I do look dark, but when the hell did I go to Sanya?"
"The summer after the college entrance examination, you told me." Jiang Xia recalled with a complicated expression.
Wang Ming looked at him as if he were an i***t. Could he have been hit in the head by a basketball?
"It's still more than three months before the college entrance examination, and I told you in your dream?"
Jiang Xia suddenly gave him a punch in the chest and muttered, "Hmm, was it a dream with such a real sense of touch?"
Wang Ming took two steps back from his punch and rubbed his chest, looking at him with effort. "What did you say?"
"Old Wang, punch me and try it."
"Are you serious?"
Jiang Xia nodded seriously.
"I've never heard such a cheap request," he said.
As soon as he finished speaking, Wang Ming retaliated with a hard punch.
Jiang Xia was hit so hard that he saw stars and almost passed out.
"Damn it, you did that on purpose, didn't you? You hit me so hard!" he cursed as he sat down on the playground, rubbing his hand against his chest.
"Bullshit, I held back my strength. Do you want me to serve you and make you feel comfortable all over?" Wang Ming said.
"No, no, let me catch my breath first," Jiang Xia said, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes to review his current situation.
If he was still buried under the ruins, then all of this would just be a dream in his subconscious, but... it seemed too real.
It felt like he had been reborn.
After a while, Jiang Xia opened his eyes and looked at the banner hanging on the rostrum: "Three years of hard study for a sword, only to ask for glory today."
This scene was just like it was back then.
"Old Wang, what year is it now?" he asked quietly.
"Are you stupid or something? It's 2009, and there are three months left until the college entrance examination. Do you want me to take you to the hospital to check your brain?" Wang Ming said sarcastically.
Phew...
Jiang Xia took a deep breath and suddenly hugged Wang Ming tightly.
"Old Wang, seeing you alive makes me happier than anything."
"???"
Wang Ming pushed him away forcefully, speechless. "Why do I feel like you're cursing me to die?"
"Haha, I'm serious, Old Wang. I'm really happy to see you again," Jiang Xia said seriously.
He paused for a moment, extremely certain that this guy's brain must have been broken.
"Are you really not going to the hospital?"
"Enough, I'm fine. You go back and play basketball. I... I'll go for a walk."
"Okay then. If anything happens, don't push yourself, you hear me?"
"Got it, got it."
Watching his friend turn and walk towards the basketball court, surrounded by energetic young men and women, Jiang Xia clenched his fists and took a deep breath, unable to suppress his racing heart.
"2009."
"I'm back."
