Week 6: How to Create Dialogue? / Chapter 4
The Packhouse was rather busy when we arrived, however even though it has been over a week since we returned not all pack members have seen us and even less gotten accustomed to me, well my “new” appearance anyway. Some of the members lost interest in what they were doing and decided what was going on in our little group was more appealing.
“We will see you all tomorrow, you know if we got time,” Idris said throwing a wink Tristan way.
“Grow up Idris,” retorted Tristan as he and Idris went on their way leaving Kyron and me.
As we turned to make our way on our path, “Kyron!” called an annoyingly familiar high-pitched voice. Kyron reached out and grabbed my shoulder halting my movements and giving me a knowing look. I sighed in defeat and we turned to see Camilla making her way to Ky.
“Hi Cam,” he greeted.
“How have you been? I heard you had returned from your training a week ago and that it was a success. Congratulation,” she said in one breath. “Those six years definitely agreed with you,” she continued before Ky could even reply.
“I guess, I would not know. I have been working extremely hard to the best and most reliable Beta I can be to our future Alpha,” he deliberately stated while stressing the our.
“Yes, how is little Zayvion doing? I heard he also did miraculously well in his Alpha training.” Kyron's irritation to her statement was vividly clear, along with several gasps and pointed stares, to all in the room except Camilla. In truth if it was anyone else, I would have to count to ten before approaching or responding to them, however my expectations from her is completely nil.
“Why don’t you ask him,” Ky said pointing her in my direction. The look on her face, I swear if her eyes could have popped out of their eye socket, they would have.
“Zayvion, hi,” she said in a meek voice, looking up at me. “How have you been?”
“Do not hurt your head over this, you do not have to burden yourself with being cordial with me,” I told her giving her the sweetest smile I can muster, then turn into walk away I continued. “You can finish your conversation with Kyron, Ky you know where to find me, if you need to.”
“Hey Zayvion, you know we were just stupid kids back then, right?” Camilla stepped into my path blocking my retreat. “You cannot hold that against us? We did not mean any of the things we said at that time.”
“Camilla, what happened then is in the past, I am focus on building my relationship with my pack members and forging a path forward that will make our pack stronger in the future. In other words, I do not hold any malice towards you.”
“You don’t?” she asked incredulously as several of the pack members looking on stares in disbelief. “Congratulation on completing your training Zayvion, I hope you succeed in making our pack stronger as our new Alpha.”
“Thank you, but that will not be until next year though, I said smiling, while Ky remained eerily quiet. “We will see you around, later Camilla.” We made our way on our path.
“What the hell was that Zayve,” Ky finally broke his silence. “You let her off the hook just like that?”
“Yes,” I sighed, “it is Camilla.”
“What about Justina?”
“Justina is different.”
Kyron stopped, “I see.”
“No, you do not.”
“Then please enlighten me.”
“Camilla is just another pack member. Justina … she is my family,” I stated and could not help watching a smile break on Ky face. “What?”
“You just called Justina your family.”
“So?” I asked with a confuse look on my face.
“From since that incident you have only referred to her as my sister,” Ky replied then took a deep breath and released it. “I am happy to know you have not written her out of your life.”
“I cannot do that; she is your sister and the daughter of Beta Justin and Lady Kianna.”
“And?”
“And, she has been like my sister most of my life,” I sighed. “Guess I have not been a good brother to her, and I should not be holding a grudge with her if I am willing to let of all people, Camilla, off the hook even after that dig, she took at me earlier.”
“So, you did hear it. Thought you were suffering from selective hearing,” we both laugh at that then went on our merry way.
“By the way, you need to be careful around Cam.”
“Why?”
“We might know her for the same length of time and to you she may be another pack member, but I have a better understanding of her.” A foreboding came over me. “How things transpired a little while ago, trust me you may have just opened a can of worms you did not want to. Let me put it this way, Cam can be extremely conceited.”
=====
The next day, Ky called me to let me know he had some errands to run before class that will have him running late so he will meet up with me in class and I must safe his seat. I made my way through the corridors of the college however, things were a little different this time around, many of the pack members freely greeted me as I made my way pass them. Apparently, my run in with Camilla and the end results made its way throughout the pack like wildfire, so all their inhibitions about approach had vanished, and I happily invited the change and greeted them.
However, I was not paying much attention to my surrounding and barely missed the person in front of me.
“Sorry, I was a bit distracted,” I said without looking.
“Zayvion, I did not expect to see you here on the campus,” came Camilla voice causing me to focus on the person I almost ran into. “What are you doing here? Pack business?” she asked as she flipped her hair, tilted her head up slightly and smiled at me.
“Not exactly, we decided to do our last year of college with our peers.”
“By we, you mean Kyron and yourself, right? That’s cute.” She said getting closer to me causing me to plant an awkward smile on my face.
“Yes, so you will be seeing us around here if our schedules align.” I answered taking a step back.
“We do not have to just see each other around if our schedule aligns. There will be time when I am free, and you are free that we can meet up. Then there is Sundays you know if you have classes on Saturday.”
What the hell, when did this go from a simple apology to making arrangement for a date? “I am sorry, but I think we are off course. When exactly did we decide on dating?” I asked backing up further while others look on with perplexed expressions that mirrored what I was feeling.
“Come on silly, it totally obvious you want to date me. Why else would you want to completely wipe the slate clean, and act as if what happened back then, never happen?” Many of the pack members looking on seemed to start pondering that question, while others seemed to be on the same wavelength as me.
Suddenly what Ky told me last night makes a lot more sense. Good thing it came to a boil this quickly, better nip it in the bud asap. “I was hoping we can start anew and build a good relationship that would foster trust within the pack. I am sorry you read my action wrong, but I am not in the mindset of dating.”
“Excuse you?” Camilla asked taken aback. “Oh, I get it now, you think because you grew a couple of inches and put on weight and muscles in the right place that you are better than me? Listen to me you little, spoilt, conceited bastard, you were nothing then, and you are nothing now.” She spat menacingly while smirking at me. Several pack members gasps, and a few others came to my defense telling her to take that back and not to disrespect their future Alpha. It was rather strange to hear that.
“Thank you, Camilla,” was my simple answer, it was her turn to be perplexed. “For being true to yourself, now if you would excuse me.” I finished making way pass her frozen form and silently thanking the members who chose to have my back.
“What do you mean by that?” she whirled around on her heel to face my retreating form, but I refrained form engaging with her any further and continued on my way. I made it to my classroom with time to spare, which was a surprise to me after the obstructive force.
“Excuse me, if you do not mind, I would like to get to my class,” came a quiet voice from behind me.
“Sorry,” I said stepping aside and opening the door for her.
“Hello Zayvion, guess it is a lot to expect you to remember me,” she said stepping up to me.
“You are Janice, correct,” I stated.
“Yes, I am, I cannot believe you remember me. I was such a mouse back then,” Janice said.
“Quiet, yes but brilliant and focus,” she smiled. “After you.”
“Would you mind if I sit with you?”
“Of course not, pretty sure Ky would not mind either,” I answered as we entered the classroom.
