Week 5: How to Design Conflict? / Chapter 3
“Justina,” I heard my name being called by a strange yet familiar voice and as I looked up, I found myself lost in a turquoise sea and I knew who it was. His voice had finally broken and had taken on a deeper baritone.
“Zayvion…” was all I could get out as I knelt there in a stupor. It was blatantly clear that was not the only change in him, any misgiving that anyone harboured about him being Alpha Julian and Luna Arya’s son would be laid to rest as soon as anyone caught a simple glimpse of him. The Zayvion of the past was gone and, in his place, stood the perfect mix of his parents, with his father eyes and his mother’s jet-black hair being the prominent features. Then without a word he stood and handed me the files he had collected from the floor and turned to leave. However, I could not let him, not when I finally had a chance to speak to him. Before I knew it my hands was clasped around his arm, halting his forward movement. I could not help but realized that the last time I saw him it would have taken one hand to span his arm, now it took both hands, plus before he would have been looking up at me now the tables have turned.
He pulled away, sighed then turned to me and asked, “what do you want from me, Justina?”
Right, I did not expect to run into him so soon so I never actually thought of what I wouldsay when I saw him. I stared at him blankly for a few second, say something already before he decides I am wasting his time and leave. “Look, I know what I did was wrong,” I said with a heavy breath. “I apologized to your parents and my parents as well.”
“And why would you do that?” he asked. “I never once brought that up with my parents.”
“I am aware of that, but what I said did not just affect you. I gave the idiots the ammo they needed to outright disrespect you, along with opening old wounds for Alpha Julian and Luna Arya. I betrayed the trust my parents had in me. They needed to know; they needed to hear it from me; and I needed to make things right,” I explained.
“Did you?” he questioned causing me to look at him in confusion. “Make it right?”
“No, not yet,” was my reply. “I also need to apologize to you.”
“I see,” was all he said as he turned on his heel and started making his way out. “You know, I always thought you would be an excellent pack doctor,” he stated changing the subject completely then was gone. No forgiveness not that I expected that, I always knew to get that I’d had to work for it. I regained my composure and continued carrying out my duties.
=====
After finishing my rounds at the hospital, I arrived home to find Kyron already there. “You are home, where is dad?”
“He had to go meet with the Alpha,” he answered. “How was your day? I am guessing eventful.”
“Did you talk to Zayvie?”
“What? No, why?”
“Oh nothing really, thought you talked to him, when you made that statement.”
“I made that statement because school is going to open soon. So many of the pups would be coming in for their check ups. You ran into Zayvie today? Where?”
“At the hospital. He was in with Dr. Jewel, and I literally ran into him on his way out.”
Kyron chuckled, “Are you going to tell me how it went then?”
“It went how I expected it to go.”
“How was that?”
“Not very well,” I replied with a sigh.
“Mind telling me about it? Maybe I can help?”
“Okay,” I said as I sat down beside him. I filled him in on the conversation I had with Zayvion, which was mostly one-sided.
“You told mom and dad?”
“Yes.”
“And Alpha Julian and Luna Arya?” I nodded. “No wonder mom and dad been watching us weirdly, and now that I think about it, Luna Arya looked like she wanted to say something to me but was told otherwise.”
“Yeah, guess I should have given you a heads up on that. She seemed very annoyed that you were giving me the cold shoulder over something that did not concern us. Anyways, I tried to apologize to him, but he was not ready to hear me out. When I brought up what happened back then, I expected his rage, anger and resentment to be a tangible force knocking me down however the only thing I saw was hurt. The pain I inflicted on him felt like it was chocking me, yet in the need he actually told me, he believes that I would become a great doctor.”
“Sounds like Zayvie, to me.”
“I know, just like I know he is not ready to forgive me yet. I will continue to work towards obtaining his forgiveness.”
“Good, and luckily you got me,” Kyron said.
=====
The first day of classes wee decided to meet outside the campus. When we entered it was difficult not to react to the member of the pack reactions to seeing Zayvie after six years. The way they stopped and stared, completely forgetting what they were doing was extremely comical, well at least to me, Zayvie on the other hand was a bit peeved. After their initial shock most of the males casted their gaze away, while many of the female seemed to take an interest in him. Zayvion decisively ignored all the incredulous stares and whispers and made his way to our first class.
=====
“So glad classes are over for the day,” Zayvion said as we made our way out of the college and met up with Idris and Tristan.
“Wow, one day and you are wiped? How are you ever going to make it through the semester?” Idris asked incredulously while laying the back of his hand to his forehead.
“Dramatic much,” Tristan added not amused.
“When did you become such a female?” Zayvion asked shaking his head, while laughing at his antics.
“At least thought it was funny.”
“Nah, he simply laughing out of pity.”
“Shut up Tristan,” Idris stated stomping his feet like a child throwing a temper tantum as he turned to face Tristan, “did not your parents ever tell you if you do not have anything nice to say then don’t say anything. You are a buzz kill,” he finished pouting which provoked us all in into a fit of laughter.
“Can we be serious for once,” I said, trying to regain my composure. “We have not seen each other for six whole years and this is how we act when we finally are back together, like a bunch of kids?”
“Hey the last time we saw each other we were kids, and we are barely adults. Anyways, do not scold us we will behave mommy.” I shook my head as Zayvie and Tristan chuckled at the statement. “Okay let us settle down and talk about more serious things.”
“Serious things, like what?” Zayvie inquired
“Things like you growing like a w**d. What the hell man? How dare you get taller than me?”
Zayvie sighed, “you can never be serious Idris, can you?”
“I am serious. The last time I saw you, you were small and adorable, now you are giving me competition in the tall and rugged department.”
“Competition? Who ever told you, you were tall and rugged? They were lying,” Tristan jumped in.
“You are jealous cause you are in the tall and lanky department.”
“Okay that is enough, Ky is right we are not kids anymore, behave. Right now I feel like I am back in the cafeteria in High School, listening to you two bickering. Let us sober up and talk,” Zayvion spoke up putting an end to our little conversation that was going nowhere.
Once we settled down, we talked about things that transpire during our time apart until it circled back to those girls. Idris and Tristan told us that Teneshia was currently in New York, while Camilla and Sharlene were meandering around and pretty much blending in with other college students. However, it was surprising, not only to me, but to Zayvion that both Idris and Tristan went to bat for Justina.
“You guys really believe that Justina is different?”
“No, not different more like she reverted to her original self. It is as the dark shroud that took possession of her lost its grip after whatever Ky told her that day.” Idris explained
“That is good to know. I was worried this whole making amends thing was just an act on her part.”
“That I do not believe,” I interjected. “Justina is genuine in her actions.”
“I’ll take your word for it but I think I’ll study her actions a little more before I decide whether what you all sees is right or wrong,” Zayvie concluded. After, we made our way to the Packhouse.
