Alex POV:
Alex had been mind linked by Logan that Sophia had another attack. He ran as fast as his wolf could take him back following the scents back to the house. At the edge of the woods, Logan stood with a pair of shorts for Alex to change into. Once shifted and dressed, he made his way to the infirmary, fear in his eyes and his throat choked. As he reached the door, he slammed it open and took in the sight that made him stop in his tracks.
There in his daughters bed, he sees Fia, her gown crumpled with wet marks on her chest. The gown had ridden up so her legs were on display but she seemed not to notice as his daughter was wrapped in her arms. Lust filled Alexs mind for a moment before he caught Sophia’s face. She looked like she had been crying momentary but to his relief, she was now relaxed. Both pair of eyes watched him as he found the words to speak.
“Sophia… what happened?” his voice was hoarse as he moved to the opposite side to where Fia sat. “How are you feeling? Can I get you anything? Do you know what triggered it?” his questions flowed out of his mouth as the worry in his eyes followed her features to see could he pin point the cause. Sophia shook her head and place her right hand on his forearm. “I’m ok dad, Fia helped me.” Her eyes flicked from his to hers for a moment and smiled. “I know that you worry too much but don’t fret. Otherwise those brows will be furrowed forever.” She moved her hand from his arm and pointed at his eye brows.
“Any way, I’m sure I’m due now for my cat scan…” Sophia sighed as she saw one of the medics walk in with a wheel chair. Wait for me here you two… it’s kinda embarrassing being in that thing.” Sophias eyes scanned the room as she noticed Poppy observing. “Actually…. Poppy isn’t it? Come with me, this might help you learn something….” Poppy looked at Fia who nodded at her and the two of them took off. Leaving Alex and Fia alone for the first time.
With no one there to redirect their awkwardness, the two silently looked away from eachother. Alex wasn’t sure what was the right thing to say or start with. There were so many things he wanted to ask and learn about her but also the fear of rejection killed him. He had never known fear until his wife passed and now here he was, stuck in an infirmary with a second chance mate who might not even want him.
“She’s quite strong, are you sure she is only ten?” he heard Fia ask, raising his head, a small smile played on his face. “I wonder that myself sometimes. I feel like she has already surpassed the teens and settled into adulthood.” His voice was soft as he looked into her yellow eyes. “Look, if you are going to reject me, get it over with so I can get on with running this pack….” His words spoke unfiltered but fizzled out as he took in her expression. Fear and Sadness played in her eyes at the sound of rejection. She seemed to be having an internal fight with herself as she looked at him. “I don’t want to reject you… at least…. I need some time…. I don’t know if you are aware of the mates call but I’ve been granted a moons cycle to decide how I feel… how you feel… how we both feel…”
Alexs mind blanked for a few minutes in shock. It was as if he had to reboot himself to process her words. She wasn’t going to reject him, at least now. Was he willing to wait and test the waters. His promise when his first mate passed came back, making him uneasy. He didn’t know whether this was smart or not. “I understand if you would rather a clean break.” He heard her continue, some would rather not experience this at all in case it ends but I.. would like to try… if you are open to it?” her eyes locked on his, making his wolf howl and demand him to answer. “Yes,” the word came out before he could process it. “I would like to try.”
Both parties smiled as they sat in silence before the door opened, letting Poppy walked back in. “Well know, what is this?” Logan asked, a knowing smile on his lips. Alex growled as he stood up, not in the mood to deal with his beta. He gave Sophia a kiss on the forehead as he passed before exiting. His wolf felt more at ease as a weight lifted off his shoulders. What was this feeling he had… Could it be Hope?
Fia POV:
Fias heart fluttered as the two of them sat silently in the room together. She wasn’t sure which of them would break the awkwardness but after an excruciating two minutes, she spoke. “She’s quite strong, are you sure she is only ten?” Fia asked, moving her eyes so she could take in his features. His solemn face changed as a small smile played on his face. “I wonder that myself sometimes. I feel like she has already surpassed the teens and settled into adulthood.” His voice was soft as he met her gaze and what felt like electricity ran through her body. Her wolf was howling in joy as it felt like her body was burning under his gaze. It took all her power not to jump into his arms and claim him right there.
“Look, if you are going to reject me, get it over with so I can get on with running this pack….” Her moment of joy changed to that of pain and rejection. She didn’t know what to do, how was she to react. She could see why he would think that as a reason due to her oath but something in her made her feel no guilt in turning from her path. “I don’t want to reject you… at least…. I need some time…. I don’t know if you are aware of the mates call but I’ve been granted a moons cycle to decide how I feel… how you feel… how we both feel…”
She watched at he seemed to be processing her words, seconds felt like hours as she waited for his response. Her heart and mind tearing through her as she couldn’t decide what he would say. “I understand if you would rather a clean break.” She couldn’t take the silence any longer as she began to babble, ”some would rather not experience this at all in case it ends but I.. would like to try… if you are open to it?” her eyes locked on his, trying to read his expressions. When he finally spoke, Fia felt like vomiting from the fear and nerves “Yes,” his words echoed in her mind. “I would like to try.”
Joy and excitement played in her mind as she felt her cheeks heat up. The two of them seemed to be smiling as familiar faces walked into the infirmary once more. “Well know, what is this?” Logan asked, a knowing smile on his lips. Fia blushed a darker shade of red as she heard Alexs growl, making her look up and see him walk out once more. Her wolf pining for his return.
“Apologies Fia, I couldn’t help myself.” Logan said as Sophia shot him a dirty look. “Why did you have to ruin the moment.” Sophia growled as she looked back at Fia. “Do we have a deal then?” she asked, a smile playing on her lips. Fia nodded remembering Sophias words earlier. She focused on the spot where Alex had sat just been moments before. “I do have one request though,”Fia turned to Sophia and Logan. “I’m in need of clothes due to the rules of the mating call. Do you know where I can buy some?”
Sophia smiled at Logan who took out his phone and pressed in some digits. After a moment of silence, A voice called out on the other end. Logan grimaced for a couple of minutes until the other person finished what sounded like a lecture. “I’m sorry my love.” He said, making all the girls smile and laugh, he looked like a puppy who had been disciplined for misbehaving.
“On a brighter note, though… I have a new victim for you.” Logan said as he gave Fia a wink, what had she gotten herself into now….
