Chapter Eight

724 Words
Alex stormed out of the infirmary with black eyes and a scowl on his face. He continued down the hallway, down the stairs and to his office. Pack members passed him with their heads down low or turning a different direction to avoid him. They knew that look and were not willing to face the wrath that came with it.  Once in his office, he began pacing back and forth. His wolf was angry at him for leaving their mate and needed to release his pent up rage. His first victim was Logan’s chair next to his desk. He stomped to it, picking it up and threw it as hard against the adjacent wall. The wood cracked in places, causing it to break and hit the ground hard. The wall, now dented, pooled in dust as paint gaps appeared where the chair hit.with his anger still pent up, the next victim was the couch by the window. It was a brown leather two seater which normally played bed when he was too tired to go to his room. He ripped the fabric and tore it to shreds, leaving loose pieces of foam, leather and wood to spread across the floor. It was a sturdy couch and took the worst damage.  Sitting on the ground, he took a deep breath before taming his inner beast. He was still annoyed but had calmed down a enough to stop the vandalism. He remembered her scent and the feeling of her skin against his as he carried her to the infirmary. It had taken all of his energy to leave her there with her apprentice as she drew blood to take the poison out. Even when he sat next to her, he could still smell the toxins on the apprentices apron and clothing as she never left her side and continued the cleanse. It brought back memories of his sweet heart and how she died giving birth to their child. Those last few moments would haunt him as he felt his heart break and her life end. It was too much.  Alex heard the door open and Logan walks in. He ignored the mess as that was a common occurrence now. His eyes lingered on the former couch as he blessed himself before saying “RIP couch, you were loyal to a fault.” Alex growled at him and turned his head away. “Don’t get snappy just because you couldn’t get out fast enough.” Logans voice was firm for a moment before he sighed as he sat next to Alex. Logan was his best friend since birth. They grew up together, found their mates together, took over the pack together... he was the only person who could talk to him in this manner and live to see another day. “It’s that toxin” Alex spat, “it... brought me back to Elaine’s death. Silent tears ran down Alex’s face and Logan placed his hand on his best friends shoulder.  A few minutes pass in silence before Logan spoke once more. “She feels it too you know,” “Who?” Alex whispered, his hands over his face. “Fia, the Luna Sanator.” Alex raised his head in shock. Her name sounded like the most beautiful birds call and his wolf relaxed at the thought of her presence. “That’s impossible.” Alex said with a growl, he did not want false hopes.  “She said so herself,” Logan continued as he stood up and began going to the door to call for their cleaning crew. “You should talk to her. She’s probably as confused as you.” Logan called out as he stepped through the door. “But don’t lash out and destroy the infirmary.... we need that space for Sophia.” Alex growled at the last comment, he knew Logan was sick of Alex wrecking perfectly good furniture and rooms but in his eyes, it was better than killing one of his own.  “Fia,” he said, his voice soft as he feared this moment might shatter and break into a million pieces. “Could you come to turn from you cause... for me?” His eyes darkened a moment as he thought about her rejecting him. “I would rather not know” he growled as he shifted, jumped through the window, shattering it. He made his way to the forest edge and through the trees. He needed to calm his wolf and the only way to do that, was run.
