“FIA, my little cherub, the light of my life, my sweet little golden nugget! Why have you not contacted me sooner!” The voice of their leader called through the phone. Poppy had been too distracted to update and now Fia has to inform her of their adventures. “We were ambushed by rogues and one bit me with wolfs bane coated on their fangs.” Fias voice remained calm as she ignored the names their leader, Abigale White called her. She was an eccentric soul who lived to tease the children who joined, calling them embarrassing pet names and enjoying them squirm. Luckily, Fia had grown up on those types of baby names and was now immune. “WWWWHHHAAAAATTTTTT!!!!” the voice screamed in anger, making Poppy jump next to her. “Where is the beast! I will tear him limb from limb! Forget the oath.... I will....” the ending of that sentence was cut out with a snarl. Abigale was like a mother to Fia, she was the healer who found her, orphaned in a basket, just outside their territory. Fia lips curled slightly as she heard her vent. This was her mother, maybe not by blood but in spirit! Nothing would change her mind. “Abigale,” Fia spoke firmly as she demanded attention. “Don’t let the young ones or the old coons hear you. They would take your title and make you leave your sanctuary of solace.” A gasp came through, letting Fia know she has broken her anger and that she was listening. “I’m fine now, Poppy did a wonderful job looking after me and I should be able to start treatments tomorrow. “
“Then why do you sound like you are hiding something,” Abigales voice suddenly serious. She should have known she could pick up the slightest changes. She knew her better than anyone! “Well, it’s kind of a long story. “ Fia started, “then break it down and we can go back on the details.” Abigale said, clearly ready to take in all she had to say. “Ok, well, once I was rendered unconscious, I had a dream with the moon goddess, she asked me to change my path but wouldn’t tell me what. When I woke, I suddenly could feel the mate bond to the alpha here and I don’t know what this means. What do I do? What do you recommend?” Her voice was slightly panicked at the end, suddenly realising how insane she must sound.
“Is that all?” Abigale asked, sounding slightly bored. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN IS THAT ALL! It’s huge! What... do.... I..... dooooo!” Fia was getting a little impatient with Abigales response. “Well, if the goddess requires you for something else. Then I will make an exception and grant you the mating call. You can have thirty days to figure out what this means and what you want to do from there... we can sort the rest out.” Abigale sounded matter of fact. “You can treat the girl, but you cannot wear your robe until you have made your final decision.” Fia paused, unsure of what to do. “Ok, but I don’t own any other clothes.” Fia started.
“I’ll give you 100$ dollars to clothes. You’ve worked your whole life here and never go over budget. Take it as a bonus or a severance package.” Her voice now teasing. “I’m sure one of the females at the pack know where to look.”Fias eyes began to tear up. Abigale knew what to say and how to sort out her problems. She truly was lucky to have her in her life. “Stop your sniffling” Abigale said, her voice also giving away a wobble. She knew she was probably crying as well. They were both suckers for a good cry when together.
“There’s one more issue...” Fia said, drying her eyes. “Mmmmmm” Abigale mused as she listened carefully. “When the rogues attacked... I thought I saw a familiar face in between the trees.” Fias voice suddenly became nervous. “Oohhh?” Abigale asked, clearly wary. “ I thought... I saw Damian.” Fia shuffled as she said his name. As Abigale took a deep breath, clearly ready to voice her concerns before an alarm went off on the machines next to Fia.
Sophia was convulsing in her bed, doctors and nurses running in to start their procedures. It was clear this was a common occurrence as they were methodical and knew exactly what they needed. “I have to go...” Fia said, ready to leap in and help. “Fia.... be careful!” Abigale said, her voice full of worry. “I’ll do my best, promise to the moon and back” Fia recited their tradition before hanging up the phone.
