Chapter Four

816 Words
It was after midnight as the wind picked up and the rain slapped against the window of his office. Alexander, who was sitting behind his desk in his office, looked to the clock and sighed. His Beta, Logan who was sitting on a chair on the opposite side of the desk looked up and smiled weakly. These were the nights they hated most. It was the end of the month and they were tallying the packs expenses. “I will need to have a chat with my mother about her shopping habits” he moaned as he looked at the charts. “No wonder my dad went grey early... her ability to spend more than we earn will put us out of house and home.. especially with Sophias heath deteriorating...” his eyes panned to the picture of a little girl on his desk.  Sophia, was his daughter, a head strong ten year old girl. She was the image of her mother with flowing blonde hair and soft features. She had his eyes which were a soft grey and knew how to give a good stink eye when not getting her way. Taking in her features, he thought of her mother, his sweet heart mate. They had grown up together and when they shifted, they knew they were destined for life. When he took his fathers place as the Alpha, he had found out she was pregnant. All was perfect, until a rogue broke into the pack and injected his mate with wolfs bane. She was seven months pregnant at the time and the poison induced early labor. Complications along with the wolfs bane sealed her fate and her final wish was that he would reject her to live past her death and raise their daughter. It broke him and vowed then that only Sophia would be the only female to penetrate his heart and no one would take her place. Sophia was a fighter, from birth she fought the wolfs bane In her system and came out a victor. Due to the damage though she had suffered chronic respiratory illnesses. They tried everything, hospitals, shamens, changing her living conditions and were now down to their last hope, the Luna Sanators. When translated it means moon healer and Alex was not a fan of their practises. They used the earth and outdated methods to heal the incurable. He had written two weeks ago and was informed that two healers would arrive in the next day or so. He remembered his mother threatening to send his sister there when she misbehaved. They were considered the “nuns” of the wolf world. They took a vow to turn away their destined mates on their eighteenth birthday and focus on curing those who needed them. It was said that the male wolves are not so lucky, that they are able to feel the bond. It is the females who reject them and offer them the chance of a second mate while testing the females loyalty to her cause. What a sick joke the moon goddess played on those poor bastards!  “Right,” Alexander stood up and stretched as he looked at his beta, “let’s call it a night! We can finish this tomorrow ,” his voice calm as a smile crept on his face. “I’m sure if I don’t free you now, I’ll have Serena coming for my head.” Logan lifted his right hand and ran it through his hair nervously. Serena was his mate and had a vipers tongue when tested. “Might be a good idea,” he said as he stood up. “I know Caleb has been acting up a bit at home so she could do with the chance to sleep in.”  Both men smiled, knowing too well the trouble a four year old pup could get up to and moved to leave the office, shutting off the lights as he the closed the door. As they made their way to the stair case, a loud scratching and banging was heard at the front door. Both men turned and assumed a defensive position, “PLEASE HELP!” They heard a young girl call out. “I’M A MEMBER OF THE LUNA SENATOR! MY MENTOR IS SURROUNDED BY ROGUES AND NEEDS HELP! PLEASE!”  Both men looked at each other and opened the door, a late teen stood naked in front of them, tears running down her cheeks. Her bright blue eyes were red rimmed and she was soaked from the rain. The two men stripped right there, causing the girl to blush and turn before changing back onto her tanned wolf. “Mind link Peter, meet us in the woods,” Alex growled as he ran out and transformed into a large grey wolf, his eyes were black as he started ahead, following the smaller wolf. “Roger!” He heard Logan say as he also shifted into a grey wolf, his eyes a bright blue.  It looked like they would have a fight on their hands.
