Chapter Two

556 Words
Hushed voices, beeping machinery and the comforting sound of herbs being mashed up in a stone pounder. “Come on Fia,” she heard a familiar voice whisper, “we need you to walk up.” She wanted to open her eyes and acknowledge the words spoken to her but her body was still not ready to respond. Her mind was fuzzy but her bite and scratch areas were now a mild burning. Clearly, Poppy had gotten to her fast enough.  Darkness took her again leading her into a dream like state. She was walking the woods of her childhood, placing a huge smile on her face. She moved towards her favourite spot, where a statue of their moon goddess stood. Stepping into the clearing she noticed that where the statue stood a woman now sat, wolves surrounding her in adoration, waiting patiently for their turn to receive love and affection.  The woman, who had white waist length hair, glowed softly under the moon, her sparking blue eyes focusing on Fia, her hand moving to call her forward to join them. She wore a white robe with a hood attached and looked identical to the the statue that stood before them. “Moon goddess” Fia smiled as she bowed in respect, placing her knees to the ground. “Rise child,” she heard the goddess respond, her voice echoing softly around the trees. Standing once more, she walked forward to sit next to the wolves.  “My child, you have devoted your life to the cause of others,” their goddess looked at her with a kind smile. “You have trained as a Luna sanator and took the oath to care for those who are too unwell to care for themselves. You have rejected the life of a mate through out your life and even now, you risked your life to save your Mentee.” Her eyes were soft and loving. “My life has been a blessing,” Fia smiled as she looked at the moon goddess “A pack who accepted an orphan pup, a purpose for my life and a wonderful future to look upon for the rest of my life.” Fias eyes were bright and full of love with each word she said. “I could not ask for more.”  The moon goddess smiled at her and resumed running her hands along the wolves coats. “I have a request of you,” her voice was soft and caring. “I need you to accept a change in your path.... There are those who need you more with dangers to come. I need your strength to help those who can’t help themselves. Accept those who need accepting... and change those who have lost their place on their path.” Fia nodded, unsure of what exactly was asked but happy to follow their goddess as she had blessed her life. “I accept..” she whispered, smiling. “What do you need me to do?”  The goddess smiled at her and shook her head, “you’ll have to find that out yourself I’m afraid. Just trust yourself to take the right path and when the time comes, look to the moon.  “With those words, Fia felt a weight on her body as the ground fell beneath her. The air of peace now changing to that of pain and confusion. “Do not fret child,” she heard a voice whisper before letting the darkness take her, “you are a child of the moon.”
