As the two girls moved to the food court, Fia was amazed by the food choices. She was aware that people would need to eat but she thought it would be something like a diner. This space was huge. Different food choices lined up next to each other, letting their dishes waft and entice each customer. Looking around, Fia felt a little lost again but Serena was quick to sort them a spot next to a café where they served sandwiches, salads and tea. Serena grabbed them a menu and they were quick to get served and talk some more.
“So,” Serena smiled as she looked at Fia. “Tell me a bit about yourself? Have you always been a part of the Sanators?” Fia nodded as she observed Serenas interest. “Yes, one of the Sanators found me in a basket on the outskirts of the boarders. It wasn’t usual to adopt but they saw something in me that made them want to raise me. I was quick to learn and became an apprentice straight after my first shift. I forgoed the mating call and have been practising and training other apprentices ever since.”
“WWHHHAAATTTTT, So you never even tried finding your mate?” Serena asked confused. “Well, yes and no… that’s not to say I never had a boy I liked.” Fia explained. “When I was a teenager, this boy from a neighbouring pack came with chronic asthma. We normally don’t allow strangers on our land but there was a go to cottage where he could be close enough for family and able to receive twenty four hour care. His name was Damien. He was a sweet boy… He gave me my first kiss…” Fia blushed furiously as she spoke. “When we both were old enough to feel the mate call though… it wasn’t there, so I turned him down and we separated.” Fia became wary of her surroundings, afraid he might be close. “It wasn’t a pleasant goodbye, but a necessary one. I hear he went rogue soon after and no one knows where he is.” Serena looked with worry at Fia. “You’re afraid of him?” she asked, only to be answered with a nod.
“The Sanators protected me from him and I took the oath soon after.” A small smile crept on Fia face as she thought of her childhood. “I was lucky to have a family in the Sanators! Even more grateful to be given the opportunity to do some good. How about you though? What was it like living here?”
Serena taking the hint to change the topic and smiled. ”I was lucky. I came from a pack down south from here called the Green Lupins. We had always been seen as an alternative pack because we still used nature as a part of our rituals. I remember coming up with my dad who was the beta to meet the Alpha, Alex’s father in hopes I’d be his mate but he had already mated when we arrived. I met Logan though and it was like the fates aligned and we were meant to be. My father was happy with the match and alliance it made and I got to live my fairy-tale with my mate.” Her eyes reflected a sense of ease as she spoke. “I was blessed by the moon goddess with this pack too though! Sophia mother became my best friend here and made me feel so welcome….” She stopped for a moment before moving her gaze to Fia. “I’m sorry,” she whispered, “you must not want to know about her.”
Fia looked at Serena in confusion. “How so?” Serena watched her for a moment before continuing. ”I don’t know if I could her about my mates past partners, especially when they were blessed with the mating call.” Fia shrugged, “I have had moments of doubt but at the end of the day, if I look at her as a rival, then I can never win or show my best self. I can only be myself and the fact that Alex has had a mate means he knows how important it is. Her memory will always be a part of this pack. I will not lower myself to ruin fond memories of others.”
Serena watched her silently, before smiling. “A true Luna indeed, I think you will do nicely in our pack.” The two smiled and went on eating and chatting about life and memories, unaware of a pair of eyes glaring at them from across the food court.
“Soon, my sweet Fia, we shall be reunited!” a snarl came out, “I will not let you escape me again.”
